???? A BIT ABOUT US:
We’re Marianne & Chris, a happily married couple from the UK. Marianne is a living kidney donor to her best friend, and realising that life was for living and never really knowing what’s round the corner - we decided to fulfil our dream of travelling full time.

So in March 2018 after the kids had left home, we sold our belongings, rented our house and moved into our campervan called Trudy. We set off to see the world and after vanlifing around Ireland and Europe, we grabbed our backpacks and spent 5 months exploring Central America.

Feeling like we needed a challenge, we planned the ultimate van life adventure! In Jan 2020 set off to drive around the World from UK to UK. But after arriving in Turkey, covid caught up with us and closed the borders, so we had a wonderful 18 months exploring this special country. Realising we were not going to be able to head further East, we decided to do a handbrake turn and go the other way and shipped our van to the USA.

We hope you enjoy coming with us, and we’ll continue to share our real adventures and hope you feel inspire to step out of your comfort zone and try something new.

OFF GRID in a DESERT - Earthship Biotecture

Living off the grid in a luxury earth home made out of trash? Yes, it's possible!

This is the Earthship Biotecture in Taos, New Mexico. A community of over 70 homes or 'vessels' that are completely off the grid. They get their energy from the sun via solar panels, or wind, they get their water from the rain and snow melt and recycle it four times, they generate their own heat, and can even grow their own food all within the walls of the home.

These are all located in the desert, with full off the grid functionality and sustainable living in mind. For those who aspire to live greener, these off the grid homes are a sight to behold. Check out the full Earthship tour of THREE of these homes.

What is it like to live in one? I spent 96 hours living in two of the earthships including the Phoenix Earthship, to find out. Read about it here:

Living off Grid in the High Desert, Taos, New Mexico

youtube travel videos

Jeanne eKo GyPsy is a traveler, and after a lifetime on the road, she decides to lay roots. But not so much in a traditional way.

Jeanne bought a cheap block of land in the high desert sage bush country of Two Peaks, just out of Taos, New Mexico. All houses in this area are off the grid, meaning people rely on alternative energy sources such as solar and wind.

The desert dwellers of Two Peaks are known as Sage Monkeys by the townsfolk. Some wear it with pride, some see it as derogatory.

360º The building made from rubbish, Belize ⎸ 360 Honeymoon

In deepest, darkest Belize - the southern state of Toledo, if you get a bus far enough, you may eventually bump into the Atkinson family. They're a band of Brits who've 'escaped to the wild' and set up a homestead next door to the enchanting Mayan ruins of Lubaantun. But more than just build a few cabanas and growing some bananas, they embarked on a truly staggering, monumental project. These lovely nutters have decided to build an 'earth ship'; a building made completely from rubbish. Tens of thousands of bottles let the light in, tires, plastics of every description are packed into the earthquake-friendly walls to make a structure that's like a big breathtaking wedding cake. If you didn't know, 'Earth Ships' are a thing. An architect called Michael Reynolds is to blame, and these beautiful fortresses of trash are cropping up all over the place. But the Atkinsons' is the only one in Belize to date. You can find them and their progress on Facebook as 'Chaos Oasis'.

A Walk Around the Plaza In Taos, New Mexico

Taos Plaza is the Heart of Taos. This is the center of the Taos Historic District where locals gather for Taos Plaza Live concerts, May through October and visitors enjoy the shops and galleries that surround the Plaza all year long.

The original Spanish settlement of scattered farms evolved in Taos Valley about 1615. But in 1680, thesettlers were driven out by the Pueblo Revolt. Spanish authority was not reestablished until 1696 with the reconquest by Don Diego de Vargas. The area was firmly resettled by 1710. In 1796 the Don Fernando de Taos Land Grant was given to 63 families by the King of Spain. This resulted in the Map of Taos Plaza establishment of the current Taos Plaza and surrounding community. Don Fernando de Taos became the most important settlement in the area outside of the ancient San Geronimo de Taos Pueblo two miles to the north. Homes were built in large quadrangles, thus offering a fortress-like structure. Hostile raiding Indians from outside the Taos area were thwarted in their attempts to enter the village. Sentries stationed at the corners of the fortified village kept vigil day and night. A huge gate offered the only means of entry and exit to and from the Plaza. The enclosure served as a refuge for livestock at night, and merchants displayed their wares there during trade fairs. Over the years, there were many fires within the Plaza and many buildings were lost and rebuilt. Because the buildings were contiguous, a fire in one usually spread to others. The character of the present structures around the Plaza dates from the 1930s.

Today the current Plaza, with its many shops and galleries, is a natural gathering place for locals and visitors alike.

NM True TV - Season 4 - Episode 4: Manhattan, NM

It isn't a place called Manhattan, but a project. Beauty, history and technology all blend in Los Alamos. And in the past 100 years the work based in this mountain town has, quite literally, changed the world. Much of what the world knows about Los Alamos is tied to a single moment and an explosion in the desert. But the city and the state have much larger tales to tell, both about scientific research and about people. #NewMexicoTrue
