Emirates First Class B777 Dubai to Harare, Zimbabwe: My 95th country

Zimbabwe is the 95th country on my journey to 100. On March 24th, I flew this interesting route down into southern Africa and the flight was really special because of the impeccable crew and their outstanding service. I had a lot of fun, flew over some gorgeous African scenery and drank lots of champagne - 3 bottles to be precise (perhaps you can tell ;). Thanks for watching, please subscribe and follow my journey to 100 countries.

Flying Qatar Airways to Zimbabwe! 787-8 Business Class Doha–Lusaka–Harare

On this second (and third) leg of the journey from Stockholm to Zimbabwe, we catch up with Gabriel Leigh at the brand new Al-Mourjan Garden lounge at Doha’s Hamad International Airport, we check out the new Orchard indoor garden just adjacent, and then we board the Qatar Airways Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner for a business class flight to Harare via Lusaka. See what it’s like to fly to this less-visited part of Africa, including the amusing experience waiting on the ground in Lusaka, Zambia.

This is part 2 of the Africa adventure series, in which Gabriel Leigh heads down to Zimbabwe to try and catch a flight on Air Zimbabwe’s ageing-but-beautiful 737-200.

TRIP REPORT | Emirates Perfection to South Africa | Dubai to Johannesburg | EMIRATES Boeing 777

Emirates Trip Report flying from Dubai to Johannesburg onboard one of the Emirates Boeing 777 on a lovely summer morning, both in the Persian Gulf and over Africa.

A very comfortable flight onboard the Emirates Boeing 777 from Dubai to Johannesburg. Although is not a plane as comfortable as the A380, as the passenger number for this flight was around 50% of the capacity, I managed to get 3 seats for me. That made this 8h+ hop over Africa much more comfortable and easy.

We took off at 4am local time from Dubai towards the south-east. We quickly turned right towards Oman and then enjoyed the first lights of the day entering the Indian Ocean. And here, after 26h awake traveling, I had to sleep. I set the alarm every 30 minutes, so we still got a good idea of the trip. We flew in parallel to the Somalia coast and entered then Tanzania (after overflying Zanzibar). We also saw Malawi Lake and the north-west part of Mozambique. Then we entered Zimbabwe, leaving the capital Harare at our right, already flying directly to Johannesburg.

The onboard service left me with very mixed feelings. Just after departure, they served 2 mini-sandwiches with a plastified little piece of cake. I personally didn't like the taste, but that's just a subjective opinion. Then, the main meal was in the morning: a warm breakfast. Well, you can see it on the video... if we compare it to any meal we've got in any other Emirates flight, it is easy to see that it is not at the same level. I'm not saying it was bad, not at all. What I mean is that this meal is what you would expect in any airline. But the point is that we are not in any airline, but in Emirates.

Why mixed feelings? Because the service, the human part of the service was as excellent as always. Initially, I went for the cheese omelet but I was still hungry after all night without eating, so I asked for another one. They told me there were no more omelets but the other meal option, which was scrambled eggs. Instead of bringing them, they brought me a new full breakfast service! Awesome.

Now it's your turn! Have you ever flown with Emirates? How was the experience? Which route did you fly? Have you been in Dubai? Maybe in Johannesburg? Which plane do you prefer for flying with Emirates: the B777 or A380? What do you think about Emirates' service?
Lots of things to talk about! See you all in the comments!
