Cabo Verde - Pearl of Africa | San Antão - São Vicente - Santiago | Cinematic travel & drone video

This is a cinematic video report of our 9 day trip to Cabo Verde in february 2022. I could fly my drone everywhere I wanted, or at least where the wind permitted it. I'm glad I brought my Air 2S, because my mini 2 would certainly have struggeled to fight the wind.

Cabo Verde is a small African country, but it's ten islands are so diverse. People here are really helpful and friendly, the food is fantastic and there are plenty of things to discover. Discover CAPE VERDE: An African archipelago known as a dream destination | 10 INTERESTING FACTS ABOU

An archipelago known as a dream destination, Cape Verde is formed of ten islands. This small island state is located off the coast of West Africa, in the Atlantic Ocean. Discovered in the 1450s, Cape Verde held many mysteries! Since then, this country is populated and has developed a culture that is waiting to be discovered.

As soon as the islands were discovered by the Portuguese navigators, they served as an important trading place. Indeed, Cape Verde was a land where slaves circulated and were picked up by boat. It was
also a place to get supplies, when the sailors needed to make a stopover, for example. Moreover, the archipelago offered important resources at the time, such as coal. Finally, the last center of interest for Cape Verde, at the time, was the maritime fauna. Whaling was a widespread and often practiced activity around Cape Verde, which represented an economic advantage in the past. The country was thus marked by exploitation and lost this dynamic from the 19th century, when slavery was abolished. Despite this, the archipelago remained under the control of the Portuguese nation until 1975, when it gained independence after decolonization.

Of all the islands of the archipelago, Santiago is the one with the largest surface and the largest population. Conversely, the most populated island in the country is Santiago, which we will discuss in the second fact. If we are really interested in the civilian population of Cape Verde, it is necessary to know that this country is inhabited by 555,000 inhabitants. Among all this population, which is moreover varied between ethnic groups of Africa and Europe, 274 000 populate Santiago! This represents almost half of the population concentrated in one island! After all, the island of Santiago has an area of 991 square kilometers. That's where the capital, the city of Praia, is located. This place is a capital worthy of the name, since it meets all possible needs! It is both the port for ferry boats arriving on the island, as well as the country's international airport!

When talking about Cape Verde, it is imperative to talk about its natural heritage, and more specifically its geology. These islands contain pearls of nature! For example, the Pico do Fogo is the highest peak of Cape Verde, and culminates at 2 829 meters of altitude. This peak is a stratovolcano, which means that it is a volcano formed from several layers of dried lava, stones and ashes. As its name indicates, it is located on the island of Fogo. Its activity began about 20 million years ago, and it is still active today! Its last eruption was from November 2014 to February 2015. During these 77 consecutive days, it was more than a hundred million tons of lava that flowed, destroying two villages. Other geological events are remarkable in Cape Verde. One thinks in particular of the crater named Pedra de Lume, which measures approximately 1.8 kilometers in diameter! This last one bears its name badly, because it is not a crater, but an extinct volcano. And since it is located near the coast, the water ended up sleeping in and forming salt ponds.

Cabo Verde (Africa) Vacation Travel Video Guide

✱ 655 Hotels in Cabo Verde - Lowest Price Guarantee ►

Travel video about destination Cabo Verde.
Cape Verde is an exotic island world, an archipelago off the coast of West Africa it combines the flair of the Canaries with the charm of Africa. Explorers Christopher Columbus and Vasco Ad Gama lay anchor there in order to replenish supplies and repair their ships. It was not until 1445 that the fifteen islands were discovered and consequently became a Portuguese colony. We begin in the north east of the islands, in Sal. Crystal blue sea and endless sandy beaches, islands of both wind and sunshine with a volcanic lunar landscape twenty five kilometres long and twelve kilometres wide. Sal owes its name and colonization to its once most important export of salt which was to be found in huge quantities. Baia Da Fontana, close to Palmeira, appears like a shady oasis with various green trees that provide welcome shelter from the heat and in the background the dominant Monte Leste volcano where the slopes reach down to the shore and the splendid rock pools of Buracona. Mindelo, situated on the island São Vicente, is considered to be the cultural centre of the archipelago in which typical Creole art has been preserved. Sparse, raw and untamed it is dominated by powerful, almost mystical mountains. Santo Antão is an island of mountains, wind and water and the second largest island of Cape Verde. Its most important route is a road over the high mountains. The views of the Paúl Valley take the breath away. A fairytale world of stone which looks truly surreal. Against the background of the scenery, clouds entangle themselves within the mountains and provide life-giving moisture. Each island is unique and possesses its own special charm. Cabo Verde - islands full of light and joie de vivre!

Why Cape Verde?

If you haven't already, why not discover Cape Verde? Sometimes known as the African Caribbean, Cape Verde is a group of 10 islands (9 inhabited) in the Atlantic. It is situated approximately 600km west of Senegal and south of the Canaries. Whilst still widely known as Cape Verde, the official name is the Portuguese version - Cabo Verde. This country has remained relatively below the radar until recently however, the islands have a lot to offer visitors. Flights to Cape Verde are under 7 hours from the UK and much of Europe and yet the country is relatively undiscovered by many.

This movie tells you some of the things you might wish to consider before visiting.
