Rice planting on the terraces of Dazhai is a giant sculpture in dynamic motion.
Dazhai is a village outside Longsheng which is 4-hour bus ride north of Guilin, Guangxi, China. An over-night stay in one of the many affordable guesthouses is recommended.
Dazhai is inhabited by the Hong Yao minority famous for its long-haired women.

★ We went from Fenghuang to Dazhai through Lonsheng by buses.
There was a Miáo nationality lives in Fenghuang, Here in Dazhai the most of the popularity are the people of the Yao nationality.

Overland Southwest China 2 Dragon's Backbone Rice Terrace Fields
We left Yangshuo back to Guilin and took a two hour bus to Longsheng where we found an excellent lunch. From there we prepared to head up to the Dragon's backbone rice Terraces. We hopped on a vehicle going that direction and ended up in Dazhai. This turned out to be a good thing, no tourists and at the top of the fields which put us in the perfect position for the early morning sunrise over the fields, absolutely beautiful. Travel Photography - Farming on Longji Rice Terraces, China (Part 1)
These photographs were shot at Longji Rice Terraces at Longsheng County in China in the month of June. The rice terraces had just been watered to prepare them for sowing and farmers were working on the fields. The heavily misty landscape provided ample opportunity for shooting a few moody shots.

An overview of our China trip in 2008. We toured the north but our trip was cut short and so we didn't get to travel through the south as we had planned. Our trip started in Shanghai. Then to Yichang to board the boat for our Yangtse Gorge cruise. Then to Xian to Pingyao, to Datong and then to Beijing.
Hiking in the Longji Rice Terraces - Ping'an to Tian Tou
The eve of the 2013 Spring Festival and we travel to the Longji Rice Terraces near Guilin. We stay in Ping'an which is more or less in the middle part of the Longji Terraces. This walk takes us out into the countryside to Dazhai or Jinkeng village, a distance of about 8 kilometres but there are some quite steep climbs involved.
