Day in the Life of a Typical Japanese Office Worker in Tokyo
Living in Japan and working in a Tokyo office - This is a Tokyo day in the life of a Japanese Office Worker, 24 year old, Emi. This is also a tour of her Japanese office, Pasona. We start this typical day in her Japanese home, commute via train to her Tokyo office in Otemachi and spend a day in the life of Emi at her working place. We see her typical working hours in Japan and how it is working in Japan as a female in her position. Her day in the life in Japan may be a bit different than some Japanese salarymen, but her experiences in the office with chorei, senpai / kouhai, and kenshu is a very typical in experiences in many Japanese offices. If you want to know how work in Japan or want to know how work in Tokyo, this could be how your job in Japan could be like. The Tokyo office itself, is probably an above average Japanese office in terms design and the business culture a bit more progressive than most traditional Japanese companies, but this Japanese company still maintains a very traditional Japanese office environment. So all in all, this is an example of Japan life as well as Tokyo life if you were to work in a Japanese company. You should always be aware of Japanese culture when working in a Japanese office. This Japanese office has a gym, English school and even a farm all in the building. Pasona is one of the largest staffing services company in Japan. There’s about 4000 staff in her office alone and about 9000 in total worldwide.

Day in the Life of an Average Japanese Salaryman in Tokyo
Japanese work day at a Japanese office for an average Japanese salaryman in a Tokyo office. Living in Japan and working in Japan is quite a unique experience. This is a day in the life of Japanese worker, Makoto, 27 years old who lives in a Tokyo 3-story house with his family. This Tokyo salaryman works in a small Tokyo office, but spends many of his Japan working hours traveling from client to client on the Tokyo trains. Makoto works for a company called Mobal and as many Japanese salarymen, he entered the company straight from a Japanese University and he plans to spend his entire salaryman career at the same company. That is the life in Japan for a salaryman. We take a look inside what it's like to work in a small Tokyo office as well as to visit clients throughout Tokyo city area. His job experiences maybe unique to his company, but fundamentally he is very much an average salaryman. He commutes by train everyday to get to work and has to ride his mama-chari bike to get to the train station from his home. This Tokyo salaryman life has him arriving to work early and working late. As a salaryman, Makoto receives a standard salary every month for all the long work hours. The Japanese office is also configured so his boss' desk is right in front of him, quite a Japanese style office working environment. This very average Japanese work day and work lifestyle showcases a true day in Japan work life.

This is what a Japanese Office Lady or a Japanese Woman working in an office may typically eat in a day at the conbini, Japanese convenience store, including total calories and how much it costs. So in Tokyo, Convenience stores are literally everywhere and it’s very typical to eat conbini food when you don’t feel like cooking or simply to save money from eating out. This is peek inside the a day in the life of a female worker in Japan eating at the convenience store 3 times a day for breakfast, lunch and dinner. This look in Japanese work culture and what they may eat during the day. In a recent study, office workers in Japan, were asked what they commonly ate for lunch, and 45% shared that it was a homemade bento, while 22% reported that they ate from the conbini and only 11% said that they dine out. In other words, when preparing a bento from home is not an option, the next best thing is lunch from the conbini.

Day in the Life of a Japanese Waitress
A day in the life of a Japanese waitress in Tokyo working at a Japanese teppanyaki restaurant. This is a typical work day for a waitress in the Japanese food industry and the typical working hours in Japan. This is a look inside of Japanese work culture in Japanese restaurants. Working in Japan is quite unique and depending on the industry may be a bit different from job to job, but many of the jobs also share similar characteristics. The video follows Yuki in her typical japan work day from morning until the evening and everything that happens in between at work. She arrives at the teppanyaki restaurant when it opens and leaves when it closes, very typical for Japanese restaurants. Yuki is a waitress at Pandora, a Teppanyaki restaurant, Japanese style flat grill, which has been a local favorite since 1972 serving Kobe beef steaks and teppanyaki course meals. During her time working as a full-time waitress, she learned the importance of reading and anticipating the customers needs and acting beforehand. It’s a strong part of a Japanese omotenashi culture, a deep and honest form of hospitality, treating customers with respect without asking for anything in return. So for her, even a smile from her customers brings her true joy. One of the main reasons why in Japan tips at the end of the meal are very uncustomary. This among other things shared in this video is what makes working in Japan as a waitress very unique experience.

Day in the Life of a Japanese Working Mom
A day in the life of a Japanese working mother of 2 children living in Tokyo Japan. This is the life of a Typical Japanese family living in Tokyo Japan with both parents working. Hifumi, 27 years old, works in Tokyo and runs her own churro shop while taking care of her 2 Japanese kids. The 2 Tokyo kids usually go to the nursery around 8:30 on weekdays so mornings are usually chaotic on top of her regular work schedule which starts shortly after she drops them off and continues until the afternoon, then she has to juggle the 2 kids schedules picking them up at separate times usually between 3-4 to also shuttle them separately to one of their many extracurricular activities and to finally bring them home just in time for dinner, but since today is a weekend there’s a slower pace to things, nonetheless Hifumi still has to balance some of her work today, while also taking care of her kids. She actually took several years off of work after giving birth, as she struggled mentally to take care of them on her own, while her husband worked to support the family financially. In Japan, it’s common enough for women to completely handle the child rearing responsibilities, that the term, one ope was coined, meaning one parent operation. But ultimately she decided being a Japanese housewife wasn’t for her and eagerly took a production job and eventually started her own business. Being a working mom in Japan isn’t easy, but she definitely prefers being a business owner compared to working at job for some else like when she worked in production. Now, she’s able to better manage and dictate her schedule so she can be flexible for her kids activities. Today, we'll see how this working Japanese mother manages her time between work, home and kids.

Day in the Life of a Japanese All-Night Izakaya Restaurant Worker
This is a Day in the Life of a Japanese All Night Izakaya Drinking Restaurant Worker in Tokyo Japan. In Japan she is called an Okami, the head lady in charge of the restaurant, in this case a Japanese Izakaya. This is the typical day of a Japanese night worker or a Japanese person who works all night at an all-night restaurant in Tokyo. She works at Ginza Karin, an all-night Izakaya restaurant that offers traditional home-style Japanese cuisine with a wide selection of alcohol in one the most opulent areas of Tokyo, Ginza. She built this shop from nothing and now she’s serves as the Okami. The early-shift workers start the prep beforehand, just in time so she can check the dishes when she arrives, ensuring that each dish created meet the high quality standards she’s put in place. Her restaurant is located in the heart of the Ginza 7 chome / 8 chome district, renowned for its abundance of Japanese hostess clubs, with many of the hostesses in the area either wearing dresses or Kimonos just like Yuka. The Izakaya serves Obanzai, which are everyday Japanese side dishes made with seasonal ingredients, originating from traditional Kyoto-style home cooking. The dishes are usually served in large bowls lined up on the shop’s countertop for customers to able to see and choose. We follow her from her morning routine all the way until the end of her work night.

Day in the Life of a Japanese Delivery Worker
A day in the life working in Tokyo Japan as a Delivery Worker at Sagawa Express, one of the largest transportation companies in Japan. This is what a typical day working in Japan is like if you worked for a large shipping company as a Japanese delivery man or delivery women in Tokyo. Japan work life and Japan work culture can be seen throughout the video from morning until evening. Yasuho, who is 22 years old, recently started working in a Japanese company Sagawa and we follow her through her average working day in Tokyo Japan. These are her typical working hours in Japan. She loves working in Japan and for her Japanese company as a Japanese delivery worker. Japanese delivery women work the same as the delivery men in Japan and there doesn't seem to be much of difference in work responsibilities. In fact, this is a peek into Japan life and Tokyo life that is rare to see, but Yasuho has been kind enough to let us follow her for the day. You'll find that Japaense delivery workers in Tokyo do a lot of walking since businesses are quite close to each other so it doesn't make sense to drive around in a delivery truck all day when compared to other countries. I hope you enjoy this video about delivery workers in Japan, life in Toyo and how it might be like working for a Japanese company such as Sagawa Express. Day in the Life of a Japanese Hotel Worker
A Day in the life of a Japanese Hotel Worker in Tokyo. This is working life in Japan if you were to work in the hotel industry. In Japan, there’s a unique hospitality custom called OMOTENASHI. Directly translated, Omote meaning public face and nashi meaning nothing, combined it means services are always completely genuine and honest. Because it’s so deeply rooted in Japanese culture, the staff make extra efforts to provide guests with the best experience possible without expecting anything in return. We follow Yohei's work day in Tokyo from morning until evening .Yohei works as the assistant manager at APA hotel Shinjuku Gyoenmae. APA is one of the largest hotel chains in japan. APA hotel uniquely identify as a New Urban style hotel high Quality, High Functionally without all the unnecessary services providing all guests with a good night’s sleep, often mistaken as a Japanese business hotel, which are typically budget style hotels close to the train station, originally intended for Japanese salarymen traveling between cities for business. Often the rooms are smaller with bare amenities, single bed, desk, tv, refrigerator, unit bath and toilet. In Japan, tipping is not customary and in some ways can be awkward as it’s unexpected. It’s ingrained in Japanese culture to take pride in your work no matter at what level, so receiving a tip as an incentive to delivery the best service is viewed as unnecessary, all tying back to Omotenashi.

Day in the Life of a Typical Japanese Cosplay Worker
A day in the life of a Japanese Anime Cosplayer working in Tokyo Japan. The life of a typical Japanese Worker in the Cosplay world in Tokyo is different than the average Japanese salaryman. The average Japan working hours are completely different for the Japanese worker in Cosplay because of the job requirements are more flexible. Working in Japan can be grueling depending on the Job in Tokyo, but it can be more flexible if you decide. The Cosplayer life is a bit more free than the typical Japanese worker. This day in the life Japan cosplay video can highlight different opportunities working in Japan. There are manga cosplayer or anime cosplayer and it really depends on the Japan cosplayer interests. The cosplay life is not for most, but if you love it like Yuzuchi, a 20 year old Japanese female worker in Japan, then each day can be an enjoyable experience. The average Japanese working day for most salarymen starts between 8AM-9AM and finishes around 6PM - 7PM, but there is also a lot of Japanese overtime depending on the Japanese company. The Japanese worker in Cosplay, is able to start later in the day, but also works quite late as you will see in this video. This Japanese Cosplayer will visit a Japanese studio, meet with a friend for dinner and karaoke and also have late working hours for her online job.

Day in the Life of a Japanese Home Builder
A day in the life of a Japanese construction worker building a house in Japan. Constructing Japanese homes in Tokyo can be a complicated process, so it's common for Japanese living in Tokyo and Japanese living in Japan to ask a professional home building company like like Daiwa House to help manage and construct their home. We follow Yuya from morning until evening and throughout his workday to show the Japanese working culture and construction culture in Japan. Construction workers in Japan have their own unique routines and process when building a house in Japan and this a peek into their daily lives in Tokyo. Japan is also ranked 4th in the world for having earthquakes so earthquake resistant building construction laws have been in place since 1924 and have been updated over the years, such as the shin-taishin standard, requiring that all buildings must be able to withstand a stage 6 seismic event on Japan’s 7-stage seismic scale.
Yuya is a Ni-Kyu Kenchikushi, a prefecture license certified second-class architect which allows him to manage small housing construction. A first class license would allow for larger construction projects such as olympic stadiums but would require passing a national qualifying exam available to four year university graduates with a minimum 2 years of practical building related experience, where only about 10% of the applicants are able to pass. Yuya has been working with the company for about 3 years now and his entire first year was spent training with 1000 other new grad employees who were all hired at the same time, in Japanese called Shinsotsu Saiyo. (新卒採用). In Japan, it’s typical for large companies to hire new grads in a batch usually in April to align with Japan’s standardized school schedule.

Day in the Life of a Japanese Bread Baker
A day in the life at a Japanese Bakery in Tokyo Japan. This is the working life of a typical Japanese baker and their Japan work culture. We follow the Japan baker during their work hours as well as the morning routine and after work life. Japanese bakeries are known for their unique variety of bread products quite different to their western counterparts, with items such as melon pan, an pan and all kinds of sozai breads. And although rice is a Japanese staple, bread gained in popularity during the meiji period, and in less than 2 centuries, it’s become even more popular than rice. Soft Japanese bread with all sorts of cream and curry fillings, mentaiko and yakisoba toppings is all perfectly suited for the local taste. In Japan, food safety is paramount to showcasing and serving delectable breads. And with Japanese customers equally conscious about cleanliness, it's almost culturally mandatory for breads to be individually wrapped assuring customers that each piece of bread has been properly handled and no else has touched it. Shokupan is a Japanese milk bread, popular for its milky-sweet taste, undeniable moistness and pillowy cottoncandy like softness often served as breakfast toast or sandwich bread. Different than traditional white bread, it has a richer flavorful experience. The Yudane baking method which originated in Japan is used here. Instead of being cooked, the flour is mixed with boiled water then left to cool down before use, which gelatinizes the starch in the flour resulting in a more tender bread which stays softer for longer.

Day in the Life of a Japanese Mechanic
A day in the life of Japanese Car Mechanic or more specifically a Japanese truck mechanic working at Isuzu Motors in Tokyo Japan. This is not your regular Japanese office worker job, but rather a Japanese blue-collar job in a Japanese auto garage. We get a glimpse of Japanese work culture and Japan working hours for a Japanese automobile mechanic. This life in Japan, follows Yuya from morning until evening to show what a typically does before and after working at the Japanese truck garage.
Yuta works as a SEIBISHI, in English, Mechanic. He attended a specialized 4 year professional school, Saitama Automotive University, earning a degree in car mechanics.
He was hired straight after graduation, common in Japan, and he’s been working with the company now for 3 years.
ISUZU Motors, one of the oldest automobile manufactures in Japan since 1916. These days, they’re best known for their commercial vehicles like trucks and buses. But Interestingly, the company itself started off as a department within a shipbuilding company which over many years transformed into the company we know today, with more than 36,000 employes and crowned the #1 truck seller in Japan

Day in the Life of a Japanese Politician
A day in the life of Japanese Politician in Tokyo Japan. We follow a Tokyo Politician from from morning until evening to show her workday giving insight on Japanese work culture and Japanese culture in general. We also see Japanese working hours and would it would be like to work in Japan as a politician. Specifically, we will be following a Kugikaigiiin, in English, a City Council Member in Minato-ku in Tokyo. Confusingly, the term Ku in English means ward, a subdivision of a city, yet in Tokyo all of the 23 wards, like Minato-ku, are classified as cities since they’re equally independent and governed like a city even with their own mayor. Hence it's called Minato City. There are 34 council members in Minato city, directly elected by Citizens every 4 years. City Council members, decide on matters such as budgets, ordinances & deliberate and decide on municipal policies, all the while, working closely with the Mayor. This term, 13 out of the 34 members are women, one of the highest representation of women city council members in Japan. In fact, only 10.2 % Japan’s Diet members are women, the lowest in the G20. Our city council member is Ayumi Enomoto, also a working Japanese mom with Japanese baby. She shares how she raises her baby and works at the same time. She works at Minato city hall in a typical japanese office. As a Japanese worker in a government office, you'll be able to see what this type of work in Japan would be like. Also, we visit Nagatacho area where the National Diet building and Diet members are located. Ayumi belongs to the Tokyo branch of the Democratic Party For the People. Is Japan Average Salary Better than Yours
The Japanese average salary in Tokyo is better than the Japan average salary.

A Japanese workers total income mainly depends on the type of Job but other factors play into the rate such as area and gender. In this video we explore how much Japanese earn, the Japan average annual income as well as detail the japan average monthly income for specific jobs in jobs in Japan. If you are interested in working in job or wondering how to get a job in Japan, then this video may be a good resource as it will provide insight on the Japan minimum wage and average salaries for specific Japanese jobs. When looking at the average salary in Japan, it's also helpful to see the average working hours in japan. I also detail the average salary for an English teacher in Japan for those who are interested. After watching this video, let me know if you think the average Japanese salary and work life is better or worse than yours. Sometimes Japanese workers and Japan work life gets a portrayed terribly in media, but based on Japan working hours it doesn't seem that bad. Also, Japan has many national Holidays in addition to a minimum of 10 paid annual leave days. Working in Japan may not be that bad, but it also depends on the company so it is important to choose wisely. The minimum wage in Japan also ranks quite hight compared to most companies and is covered in this video.

Day in the Life of a Japanese Train Conductor
A day in the life of a Japanese Train Conductor. This is the typical day working in Japan for a train railway conductor or Japanese electric railway company. We go inside their workplace to see Japanese work culture as they all work as a team to run the train line together in the small tranquil town of Choshi in Japan. Takaiya works as a train conductor at Choshi Den-tetsu, AKA Choshi Electric Railway, transporting passengers for 100 years now from Choshi station to Tokawa station, a 10 station 6.4km (4 Mile) stretch located on the easternmost tip of Chiba right on the oceanside. The headquarters is here, at Nakanocho station, where a total of 60 workers proudly and safely keep the train line running each and every day. We follow Takaya from his morning routine in Japan all the way through to his work day.

Day in the Life of a Japanese Mom and Baby in Tokyo
This is a day in the life of a Japanese mom and Japanese baby living in Tokyo Japan. This Japanese Family of 3 with Japanese husband shows how life in Tokyo is like for a new Japanese mother raising a Japanese baby. We follow Moe, 27 year old Japanese mother of Sutan, a 9-month old Japanese infant, from morning until evening to show what type of activities a Japanese mom has during the day. Inside of their Japanese home in Tokyo, we can see what type of Japanese house chores she performs, what type of Japanese food she cooks and how she takes care of her Japanese daughter. This probably would not be considered an average Japanese family but many of their activities are that of a typical Japanese family. This day in the life of Japanese housewife and Japanese baby will feature the joys and struggles a mom has raising a Japanese baby for the first time. Life in Japan starts here as baby and you can see how certain behaviors are taught to babies like saying itadakimasu before the baby eats. I hope you enjoy watching the life of this Tokyo family and their life in Tokyo.

We follow Fuki who works at Yoshiizumien, a family owned 5th generation Japanese tea company, crafting the most luxurious tea in Japan, Yamecha, for over 130 years. While this remote area holds just a modest 3% share of the nation’s tea production, it produces the highest end tea in the country known for its unparalleled quality, strong sweetness and umami. Gyokuro is the most premium type of green tea produced, making up only 0.3% of the overall of tea production in Japan, and here, the artisans craft the highest-end Gyokuro green tea, the Yame Traditional Hon Gyokuro. It’s born through a traditional cultivation technique where the tea bushes are nurtured under straw screens shading out 95% of light, increasing the leaves chlorophyll content to temper the catechins bitterness, forming a distinct sweetness and umami character. Japan’s unique climate and natural environment has uniquely transformed the tea leaves over the centuries along with developing its own tea culture blended with the subtle art of hospitality.

Day in the Life of a Typical Japanese University Student
A day in Japanese college student life in the greater Tokyo area. Follow a Keio University student from morning until evening. This is a day in the life of University student in Japan attending Keio University, one of the top universities in Japan. Japan university student life is much different than the Japanese salaryman life as college students have a bit more freedom to pursue hobbies, especially in their senior year of school in Japan. An average Japanese student in Tokyo may have between 15-23 course hours per week while a Japan University student 4th year Senior will have much less such as 9 hours of course hours per week. Yusuke, 22 year old Policy Management Major at Keio University lives with his parents in a 2 story house which is commuting distance to school via train and bus. Typical Japanese University life outside of class and study, also allows for part-time jobs and also a social life with friends. In fact, many Japanese students take on part-time jobs and find the time to hang out with friends in groups and join Japanese University Circles. Generally, a typical Japanese student’s class semester grade is based on assignments, presentations, group projects and 1 final exam at the end of the semester. But one interesting aspect about the Japanese university grading system is that many teachers don’t let students know how each category is weighted so students can’t calculate what they need to score on their final exam to earn a specific mark for the class. Day in the Life of a Japanese Toy Maker
A day in the life of a Japanese Toy Maker at Sega Toys in Tokyo Japan. This is what a typical day working in Japan is like at a Toy company as a Japanese worker. We see Japanese work culture throughout the day and see how it is to work in japan as well how it is to live in Japan during this time before work and after work. Kana works at Sega Toys, creating some of the most popular toys in Japan, formed in 1998 from its parent company Sega, one of the largest video game and entertainment companies in the world. Although many of the Sega Sammy companies are located in the same building, Sega Toys operate independently with 110 hard working staff to create award winning toys even with major brands like anpanman and disney. Kana is originally from Aichi prefecture but moved to Yamanashi prefecture to attend university majoring in Regional Sociology. Like many Japanese university students, she started her shushoku katsdo, aka Job Hunting while in school and was able to secure employment before graduation which led her to Tokyo to start a new life and career. And as a person who has a deep appreciation for all things cute and fun, she naturally found a fit at her job for the last 4 years as a Toy Planner creating Japanese toys.

Day in the Life of a Typical Japanese Couple Moving in Tokyo
A Day in the Life of a Typical Japanese couple moving to Tokyo Apartment for the the first time together. This is a Tokyo day in the life story of a Japanese man and Japanese women deciding to move in together into their new Tokyo home. This is an inside look at Dating in Japan or dating someone Japanese. Before today, they lived in separate Tokyo Apartments but the Japanese apartments were too small so they decided to hire a Japanese moving company to help them with their move to a larger Tokyo apartment. This video shows the Japanese couple's Tokyo life together in their old Japanese apartment and in their new Tokyo apartment. We start the typical Japanese life in the morning and explore Japanese relationship culture with Yujin and Arisa. Living in Tokyo is quite different than most parts of the world. Throughout this day in the life in Japan Tokyo video, we can have an Japanese apartment tour and walk through the Japanese moving company procedures. We explore Japanese life, Japanese culture and Japanese relationship in this video. This video may also be helpful if you are thinking of moving to Japan or want to know more about a Japanese Family or Japanese home life.

Yujin is 27 years old, works for IT solutions firm in Tokyo as a sales person and has lived in this Tokyo apartment by Yoyogi Park for 2 years now.
Arisa is 26. They’ve been going out now for a strong 11 months as you can tell by their tooth brushing routine. These days, Arisa sleeps over mosts nights so it was natural for them to start thinking of getting a larger place together that they could share.
So they are moving out of this 1K apartment in Yoyogi. 1K means 1 room, Kitchen and the bath. Pretty typical size for a single person’s apartment in Tokyo. It may be small to most, but since the room’s on the 9th floor it has a pretty decent view.
Also, this main room has 2 closets which is nice since Japanese apartments tend to have minimal storage areas.
He has a medium sized fridge as you can’t really fit anything larger than this in the kitchen. It filled with your standard drinks, fresh vegetables, soy sauce and tea.
In the bathroom area, there’s a washing machine, sink and toilet. The toilet itself has the standard Japanese bidet and controller, as expected in most newer apartments.
