Vietnam Vlog 3 - My Tho Fish Market

This was our second or third day in Vietnam. We are in My Tho, other known as the river city.

The Mekong River runs through this city and the people uses it for their livelihood.

We got up early in the morning to walk around the city and mainly to visit the markets.

Everyone was up early too, getting ready for a big day. People setting up their fishing gear, boat, stall.

The ambiance was lively and very loud. It was deafening and fun. I loved it!

Watch the video, you might see the skinned frog, eugh!

NETFLIX STREET FOOD: Finding Saigon's Snail Lady!

SAIGON'S SNAIL LADY
We fell in love with her story on the Saigon episode of Street Food by Netflix so we made it a point to find Mrs. Truoc's stall (aka the Snail Lady) on a recent trip to Vietnam. I'm so happy we did because we got to try several snail dishes and one clam dish, all of which were fantastic.

If you're a fan of snails and the Street Food series (and their feel good stories), then you should definitely visit her stall on your next trip to Ho Chi Minh City.

Here's the exact location of her stall:

BORNEO NIGHT MARKET (Landscape Series) 4K

BORNEO NIGHT MARKET (Landscape Series) 4K: Borneo is the third-largest island in the world and the largest in Asia. At the geographic centre of Maritime Southeast Asia, in relation to major Indonesian islands, it is located north of Java, west of Sulawesi, and east of Sumatra.

The island is politically divided among three countries: Malaysia and Brunei in the north, and Indonesia to the south. Approximately 73% of the island is Indonesian territory. In the north, the East Malaysian states of Sabah and Sarawak make up about 26% of the island. The population in Borneo is 23,053,723 (2020 national censuses). Additionally, the Malaysian federal territory of Labuan is situated on a small island just off the coast of Borneo. The sovereign state of Brunei, located on the north coast, comprises about 1% of Borneo's land area. A little more than half of the island is in the Northern Hemisphere, including Brunei and the Malaysian portion, while the Indonesian portion spans the Northern and Southern hemispheres.

Frogs legs in Hanoi

Everyone's heard of Vietnam's wonderful food so I'll refrain from throwing my superlatives into the already heady mix. Suffice to say that after landing at Hanoi International Airport at 7am I was tucking into a plate of fried frogs legs by 11am (rather chewy, but then I was recommended to go for the meatier-looking thigh. I declined, blame the jetlag). I was in sitting in a lovely café by the West Lake, with a spread of tasty dishes including fresh prawn spring rolls without any casing (the café's speciality), tasty tofu and an upside down rice cake thing, crispy and cone-like with a tasty dipping sauce. I highly recommend that café if you get the chance -- it's called Cua Hang An Uong Mau Dich So 37. In an added quirk you pay for an old fashioned rationing book which you then exchange for your dishes. There's memorabilia on the walls, and lots of old news clippings and photos. Return to Quan An 33 De Tham seafood restaurant - Saigon, HCMC, Vietnam

Before hitting the seafood restaurant again I checked out a local restaurant called Saigon Fusion. It looked okay but was a bit pricier than say Pho Bo Vien where a meal cost 50% less. No doubt it had better ambiance but I was really just after a cheap, honest feed. As I walked toward Quan An 33 De Tham I reflected on my previous night at Booty Bar. I discovered that I could request my own music track via a computer terminal. Problem was I couldn't see the menu on the screen above. Had more luck at the seafood restaurant where I finally ordered a seafood dish. Crumbed squid to be specific which was quite tasty. This place gets top marks from me for value for $$$.

First time eating CRICKETS! Cu Chi Tunnels | Vietnam Travel Vlog

Our first time EATING CRICKETS! DEEP FRIED CRICKETS! This was a part of the Cu Chi Tunnel Tour which we booked through Les Rives while we were staying in Saigon.

For those that are unaware the Cu Chi Tunnels was one of the largest underground tunnel networks in Vietnam. These tunnels were used by Vietnamese soldiers during the Vietnam War. There are many different stories and versions people have of the Vietnam war. Hang our tour guide from Les Rives did a great job of educating us throughout the day.

We were given a opportunity to walk through a few tunnels (which are widened for tourists), saw underground bunkers, booby traps and fired guns at the shooting range. We also stopped by a Rice Paper Village where we were also had a go at making rice paper. They make it look so easy.

The tour was a real eye-opener for us as we have a Vietnamese heritage and it was so interesting to learn about the Vietnam war and see the conditions they had to endure. Highly recommend this tour!

Thank you for watching! Remember to LIKE, SHARE and SUBSCRIBE if you haven't already! We really appreciate all your support and comments!

P.s. we apologise for our ugly faces. Vietnam weather and humidity does not suit us at all :(
