[Cuba de Ayer] Flavorful Cuban Food, Tastes of Abuela’s Kitchen – Burtonsville, MD

[Taste the World Cuisine in the U.S.A.] - Cuba Episode

Celebrating its 13th anniversary in March of 2018, Cuba de Ayer has kept its loyal Cuban regulars and locals coming years after years. Jessica Rodriguez started the restaurant with the help of her mother-in-law whose hometown Cuban recipes make customers feel like eating at grandma’s kitchen. It was our first time trying Cuban food, and boy did Cuba de Ayer take us on an authentic journey with all kinds of deliciousness! Jessica, who is really friendly and sweet, said she once thought about offering sour cream to her customers since many people asked for it as they were more familiar with the Latin American way of enjoying plantains with sour cream. Jessica made a wise decision by insisting to serve her Cuban dishes the authentic way – without sour cream. Staying true to the authenticity is what matters!

Eating Cuban Food in Miami. Little Havana Food Tour ???? First time trying Cuban Food.

In this week’s vlog we adventure into the Little Havana neighbourhood of Miami to try some Cuban food! Miami has a very large Cuban community making it the perfect place to try Cuban food outside of Cuba.

We started off at a restaurant called El Cristo where we first had a platter filled with various Cuban foods including chicken and beef empanadas, plantains, ham croquettes and fried yuca. We also tried a traditional Cuban Sandwich.

After this we decided to head to a Cuban coffee shop where they recommended we have the delicious and indulgent coffee drink called Cafe Tres Leche.

After exploring the neighbourhood some more we headed to our last stop, a restaurant called El Exquisito to have a dish of Arroz Con Pollo (chicken and rice).

ABOUT LITTLE HAVANA, MIAMI
Little Havana is a neighborhood of Miami, Florida, United States. Home to many Cuban exiles, as well as many immigrants from Central and South America, Little Havana is named after Havana, the capital and largest city in Cuba.

Little Havana is noted as a center of social, cultural, and political activity in Miami. Its festivals, including the Calle Ocho Festival, Viernes Culturales/Cultural Fridays, the Three Kings Parade and others, have been televised to millions of people every year on different continents. It is also known for its landmarks, including Calle Ocho (SW 8th Street/Tamiami Trail), and its Walk of Fame (for famous artists and Latin personalities, including Celia Cruz, Willy Chirino, and Gloria Estefan), the Cuban Memorial Boulevard, Plaza de la Cubanidad, Domino Park, the Tower Theater, Jose Marti Park, the Firestone/Walgreens Building, St. John Bosco Catholic Church, Municipio de Santiago de Cuba and others.

Little Havana is the best known neighborhood for Cuban exiles in the world. It is characterized by its street life, restaurants, music and other cultural activities, mom and pop enterprises, political passion, and great warmth amongst its residents.

Looking For Food In Cuba During The Crisis ????????

???? HAVANA, CUBA (0.3)
Before I went to Cuba i didn't realise how hard it was going to be to find a meal. It's much easier to find a cold beer or a bottle of rum than it is the find a cold bottle of water. I headed south of old Havana to where the cuatro caminos market is to see what food i could find and met some friendly people on my day out.

Cuba's Culinary Allure

Cuba Tour for Foodies – Join Us!

Take a step back in time and a step forward in cultural relations as you discover Cuba’s culture through its cuisine on our ground-breaking Cuba culinary tour. Access Trips pioneered culinary travel to Cuba by offering access inside Cuban kitchens at top restaurants for the first time ever on our legal, 8-day Cuba tour. Don’t miss this opportunity to experience an authentic culinary journey where you’ll meet the locals and immerse yourself in the Cuban food scene through farm and market visits, opportunities to learn from local chefs, and delicious meals at some of the island’s most renowned private restaurants, or paladares.

On your Cuba tour you will spend five action-packed days in vibrant Havana engaged in meaningful interaction with farmers, chefs and artists. We’ll be invited inside the kitchen of one of Havana’s finest paladares, learn to salsa with incredibly talented dancers, and meet an Afro-Cuban artist whose work evokes the traditions of Santeria. We will even make daiquiris with a celebrated mixologist who recently retired after 39 years at Havana’s legendary El Floridita, where Hemingway was a regular. And you’ll also have an opportunity to see some of Cuba’s iconic sights, such as Havana Vieja & Revolution Square.

We’ll venture far off the beaten path to the Viñales Valley, a stunningly serene and beautiful UNESCO World Heritage Site famous for its tobacco plantations. We’ll meet a third-generation tobacco farmer and learn how he makes organic Cohiba and Montecristo cigars. Your Cuba tour won’t be complete until you try one dipped in honey! We’ll also dine at a delicious private restaurant with panoramic views across the entire valley and stroll through their organic farm. After lunch we will explore the town of Las Terrazas, which is a Unesco Biosphere Reserve and the site of one of the oldest coffee plantations in Cuba.

We then journey to the town of Trinidad, where the sounds of street music and clip-clopping horse carriages evoke the town’s colonial history. A short drive away, we will meet with fishermen bringing in the morning haul, and learn the secrets to making Cuban grilled fish while chatting with a former fisherman turned chef in his open kitchen.

Don’t miss this opportunity to join one of our legal Cuba tours during a pivotal moment in history. For more information, please call 1-800-567-9400 or email us at info@accessculinarytrips.com today. Our Cuba culinary tour is operated under a license granted by the US Treasury Department.

Day 3 Cuba - Food, Revolutionary History, Daiquiri and Music!

Another day in beautiful Cuba!

This time we were able to cover a lot of ground. Still roaming the city but looking at it through different lenses. Today, we checked out some typical Cuban street food. We visited a public and private market to see how the state tries to take care of its citizens while at the same time, tolerate private enterprises to operate.

We also learned more about the revolutionary history of Cuba, and where the US hostility is coming from.

Finally, we visited the cradel of the Daiquiri, where it was spawned and was a favorite of it's most loved and famous patron - Ernest Hemingway.
