We recently got back from our 3rd trip to the Cook Islands, spending most of our time in Rarotonga (along with a few days in Aitutaki as well) and met a bunch of people who'd found our last Raro videos and had used them as a bit of a guide for their holiday. Situated at the very centre of Polynesia, the Cook Islands is an archipelago nation comprised of 15 islands. It is spread across an area in the South Pacific, three times the size of Texas..
Supremely beautiful, with pristine white sands fringed by coconut palms, the Cook Islands possess a castaway island magic and yet is only a four hour flight from New Zealand.
According to legend, these tiny islands, dotted amongst the vast ocean, were discovered thousands of years ago by the very finest Polynesian seafarers. Guided by the stars and using other sophisticated navigation techniques, they landed their legendary double hulled Vakas and set about creating paradise.
It is a rhythm you’ll feel as soon as you touch down in Raratonga, the largest island in the group.
You could easily drive around this sparkling island in half an hour if you hurry, but that’s the charm of the Cook Islands….. no one does.
It has been almost 250 years since Captain Cook became the first European to discover these islands and yet there is a gentle timelessness that endures here.

Cook Islands drivers licenses are cheap and available at local police station, although an international license should cover it, but then - it's rare indeed that a police officer will ever actually CHECK that you have one, unless you do something really obnoxious or stupid on the island, so kindly respect the local way of life, and you will have no problem.
NOTE: Fresh milk is outrageously expensive at close to AU$10 per litre (if you can find it) as all supplies are shipped from New Zealand, and there are no dairies on the island, so powdered milk is really your only viable option.

It’s SO GOOD to be back on that travel buzz and visiting the Cook Islands again. We’ve got a total of 7 travel vlogs in this series exploring Aitutaki and Rarotonga, a stunning paradise so close to home! After a quick 45 minute flight from Rarotonga to Aitutaki airport we were picked up by our accommodation and taken to our resort — Etu Moana — right on the beach front!
There’s a lot less hotel and accommodation options on Aitutaki, but we loved the look of Etu Moana and it turned out to be everything we hoped it would be. Check out Etu Moana here: [
In this vlog we also travel a few km’s down the road to Pacific Resort Aitutaki to check out their resort for a massage and some food — what a beautiful spot!
