Salento, Quindio, Colombia - 4K UHD - Virtual Trip

Salento is the first municipality founded in the department of Quindío in Colombia. The village has a little less than 4000 inhabitants, a little more than 7000 if we add all the inhabitants of the nearby fincas. Salento has preserved its traditional colonial architecture, typical of the eje cafetero region, called bahareque. It is one of the many colorful villages of western Colombia.
Tourism in Salento consists of both foreigners and locals from all over the country to admire the very special nature of the coffee area.
Salento is built on a small plateau, bordered by the Quindío River and surrounded by green mountains and coffee plantations. The summits of the surrounding small hills can be seen from any street in the village.

OUR FIRST DAY IN SALENTO, COLOMBIA!

PLAZA DE BOLIVAR || MIRADOR DEL COCORA || TRYING PATACON || PLAYING TEJO

We are in Colombia!!!!!!

The closest airport to Salento is in Armenia. From there, we took a 2-hr bus ride to Salento, Colombia’s coffee region.

We stayed at Hotel El Mirador Del Cocora, and it was heaven!! We had a hot tub on our patio overlooking the mirador.
After check-in, we decided to go to the main square: Plaza Bolivar to get something to eat. Trout fish and patacóns are specialties in Salento, and a must try! They were delicious.

The city itself is charming- lots of colourful buildings and street vendors. We could see that this was a popular destination for local tourists as well.
We went back to our hotel after lunch to get some rest before we headed out in the evening to try our luck in tejo. Tejo is a game like darts except it involves gun powder and explosions. It was pretty fun.

We had a wonderful first day in Colombia. For those concerned about safety in Colombia, we found this place to be extremely safe! We walked home in the dark after playing tejo and there were no red flags. Everyone was friendly and super helpful.

Stay tuned for our next vlog as we explored Cocora Valley, visited a coffee plantation, and stayed at a neighbouring village in Quindio.

Huffington Post:

Simply one of the most stunning landscapes on the globe. This is the Cocora Valley, or in Spanish, Valle del Cocora, just outside of Salento, Colombia. Incredibly lush green hills, wax palm trees towering above everything, and a crisp blue sky, this is what Colombia is all about. Salento is nestled between Perreira and Armenia, two cities in the center of Colombia and to the west of Bogota, and almost directly south of Medellin.

The area surrounding Salento is rolling hills and the coffee area of Colombia and home to the Cocora Valley. The Valle del Cocora is possibly the most unique and stunning landscape in Colombia, possibly South America. From the center of Salento, take a jeep out to the beginning of the Cocora Valley Hike and get make sure your camera is full of space as the Cocora Valley is a photographers dream.

Viewpoint over Salento, Colombia:

A 4 - 6 hour walk depending on your speed, through the Valle del Cocora and you will return and end where you began and you can take a jeep back to the town of Salento for a relaxing coffee in the afternoon to cap off a seriously perfect day.

I took my camera and my gum boots and trekked through the amazing countryside of Colombia and enjoyed a day in the Cocora Valley.
