Insects and weird food in Beijing Wangfujing Market, China
Wangfujing (Chinese: 王府井; pinyin: Wángfǔjǐng; literally: Prince's Mansion Well) is one of the most famous shopping streets of Beijing, China, located in Dongcheng District. The majority of the main area is pedestrianised and very popular shopping place for both tourists and residents of the capital. Since the middle of the Ming Dynasty there have been commercial activities in this place. In the Qing Dynasty, ten aristocratic estates and princess residence were built here, soon after when a well full of sweet water was discovered, thereby giving the street its name Wang Fu (princely residence), Jing (well). Many exotic foods are served on Wangfujing snack street such as deep fried scorpion (蝎子) and seahorse (海马) on a stick.

Under the epidemic, the night market in Nanning City, Guangxi, China, was extremely popular before the epidemic! Very deserted and depressed now.
Nanning MUST EATS - The Best Rice Noodles
I rice rolled into Nanning excited for the food and got started right away with an incredible bowl of rice noodle soup. It was filled with an assortment of meat in a broth that was really hard to describe. I couldn't put my finger on it, but it had some Southeast Asian tastes in it.
After a rest, I headed out for dinner to a restaurant that is quite popular - and for good reason. The place was lively and the food was good. I ordered their most popular item on the menu, a giant fried egg topped with vegetables and a sweet and sour sauce. I love eggs. I've said that many times. It was a unique egg dish that really hit the spot.
While eating my giant omelet, I lamented about not really enjoying Nanning. All that melted away as I accidentally stumbled across the night street food market. This place was packed with all kinds of incredible foods. Oysters seemed to be the most popular item. Too bad I was fully full from my eggs.
The next day, I finished my Nanning feasting with a rice roll and rice dumpling breakfast. Steamed rice rolls are often called cheung fun. I believe they're a Guangzhou specialty, but this place was even better than the place I had them at in Guangzhou. They made their rice rolls by steaming the fermented rice batter over a cloth. They were so light and fluffy. The first one was filled with a pork and green beans, and the second had a different stewed pork with corn. I sauced them with a sour and spicy sauce, along with a special sauce that I just couldn't figure out. After talking, or at least attempting to talk, to the ladies running the stall I discovered it was made from wampi, a fruit from some evergreen trees. It was different than any other sauce I've had in China. It was slightly sweet, but rich and delicious.
Nanning really surprised me with its food. I'll admit that I didn't like the city at first, but after a few hours and a few meals I ended up feeling similar feelings that I had in Vietnam. It's China with a Southeast Asian feel.

I've visited over 20 night markets throughout Asia and Nanning, China has one of the best I've ever seen. They offer a large variety of exotic seafoods, tropical fruits, vegetables, desserts and of course insects! For about 50 RMB per person we had all of this:
