Trying VENETIAN FOOD! | Venice City Tour, Piazza San Marco + Cheap Pasta!

***Filmed before the COVID-19 outbreak***
Hello friends! We're finally moving on from Barcelona and onto a new and exciting adventure in Italy, starting with the most serene city of Venice! We're so excited to explore this most dreamlike city with you for the next 2 videos! Make sure to tune in next week for Venice Part 2!

0:00 - Intro
0:20 - Arriving in Venice
We arrived in Venice coming in from Barcelona late at night and we were greeted with an incredible foggy Venetian night that oozed all sorts of magical movie set vibes.

3:14 - Piazza San Marco (St. Marks Square)
The historic centre of the Venetian Republic is a sight to behold. The square is home to beautiful St. Mark's Basilica, the towering Campanile di San Marco, the Palazzo Ducale (Doge's Palace) and countless other gorgeous buildings and museums. Piazza San Marco is a must-see when in Venice and there is so much to learn about the interesting history of the Venetian Republic.

5:20 - Trattoria alla Rampa
A great traditional Venetian restaurant at the very eastern end of the more local feeling Castello district, this is a great restaurant to dine away from the hordes of tourists if you're willing to make the trek there. The name is a reference to what used to be a boat ramp out front and you'll also find the last remaining floating produce market boat in Venice right in front of the restaurant. We got ordered some great pastas and Venetian dishes such as the Black Squid Ink Pasta, mashed salted Cod and Polenta and Venetian style liver. An incredible spot that's frequented by locals that is sure to impress your tastebuds.

10:40 - Fried Land
Venice is infamous for being an expensive place to both stay and eat and so for dinner we opted in for a budget-friendly meal at Fried Land. As its name suggest they specialise in all sorts of delicious friend seafood but they also have some of the most bang for your buck mouth-watering pastas in Venice. If you're not too fussed about getting traditional Venetian food but still want some great, cheap Italian food then Fried Land is your spot.

BEST Street Food in Venice - What is CICCHETTI and Where to Eat it?

Discover the NUMBER 1 street food in Venice: Cicchetti, the epic Venetian version of tapas. These finger foods usually come as small slices of bread or polenta topped with local high quality ingredients. Venice is built on water, therefore it doesn't come as a surprise that the most traditional Cicchetti are with seafood:
- Creamed cod on polenta (Italian: baccalà mantecato).
- Boiled egg with anchovies (Italian: mezzo uovo con acciuga).

However, I prefer the ones with cold meat cuts. You will find these delicacies at a Bacaro or an Osteria. Cicchetti are loved by Venetians. Thus, when in Venice - eat like a local. Buy a plate full of these and bring them next to the beautiful and scenic Venice canals… This will be the best food experience you will ever have.

Venice is one of the top travel destinations in the world and therefore expensive in general. If you are visiting Venice on a budget, then Cicchetti are a cheap way of having decent meals. One Cicchetto average €2.

We share some budget travel tips for Venice, Italy.

Venice STREET FOOD | Cicchetti, Tramezzini + Doge's Palace Tour!

***Filmed before the COVID-19 outbreak***
Hello friends! Welcome to Part 2/2 of our Venice food tour! This video spans 2 days and of course, we had to indulge in more delicious food and breathtaking sites. Highlights include, cicchetti at Osteria Al Squero, awe-inspiring architecture and history at the Palazzo Ducale, and great seafood and pasta at Osteria Mocenigo! We'd love to hear your own Venice food and travel experiences too down in the comments below! Thanks for stopping by :)

0:00 - Intro

1:25 - Venetian Street Food at Osteria Al Squero
Cicchetti is the iconic street food of Venice. Bite-sized breads topped with many combinations, you're guaranteed a delicious bite. Osteria Al Squero is a great spot to have these tiny treats.

5:31 - Gondola Ride
A bucket list item for everyone visiting Venice, it is not cheap but it sure is worth it. You can organise gondola rides through many ways around Venice but we decided to let our hotel do the booking for us.

6:49 - Osteria Mocenigo
A great spot opposite the Mocenigo Palace for some delicious Venetian and Italian food. The seafood and pasta we got here were great and we thoroughly enjoyed our meal.

11:14 - Gelato at Venchi
We couldn't resist abstaining from geltao until Florence so we hit up Venchi, a famous chain that even has branches all around the world. It's a great artisanal gelato spot and the perfect sweet snack.

13:40 - Doge's Palaces Tour
The historic centre of power in Venice, we decided to visit the sprawling and grandiose Doge's Palace Museum. It is a great learning experience and full of wonderful and interesting rooms and exhibits.

16:03 - Tramezzini at Tiziano Snack Bar
Tramezzini are great snacks of triangle-cut white bread filled with a variety of different fillings. You'll find them all across Venice and is a great snack on the go. We got some tramezzini at Tiziano Snack Bar near our hotel.

VENICE FOOD TOUR // DELICIOUS ITALIAN FOOD VLOG!

While in Venice earlier this summer I was hosted on a food tour with The Tour Guy / The Roman Guy - an awesome company that runs food tours around Italy. As I've been to Venice a few times and seen all the sites, I wanted to do something different and this was the perfect alternative thing to occupy by time - delicious food and great wine!

Apologies if the video doesn't flow that well, and that there are definitely MISSING PARTS but my SD card corrupted and I struggled to get the files off and some were missing so the video is kind of a mess but I still really wanted to give you guys a taste of the awesome tour ands experience which I would definitely recommend!

I do do food tours in almost every city and you can even check out my Eat With Janet playlist to see more.

About us:
In March 2017, Rick and Andrea (confessed Travel Addicts) started a Facebook Group called Travel Addicts as a way to share their travel photos and videos not just with their own respective friend's lists – but with the world. Part of the reason was for bragging rights (I mean, that’s kind of the point of sharing photos, right?), but also to help answer questions to others about the destinations they have visited.

After inviting some of our friends and family, it grew and grew – and as of June 2019, the group has grown to over 200,000 members! One reason for our success, we believe, is that we have done our best to ensure only high-quality photos and videos get shared, all while limiting the use of commercial content.

9:32 Final Tips: Plan Ahead

Here is a video summary:

In this video, I give you 20 must-know tips before heading to Venice.

First things first, where you stay matters a lot. You've got to decide if you want to splurge on a hotel right in the heart of Venice or save some bucks by staying off the island. Commuting might sound okay, but parking can be a hassle, and what about lugging around your luggage?

Getting lost in Venice is part of the adventure. The narrow passageways are charming, but your smartphone GPS won't save you here. Best to familiarize yourself with the city and have a plan for meeting up if you inevitably lose your way.

Shopping in Venice is a treat! From Murano blown glass to unique masks, the souvenirs here are posh and a bit more special than in other touristy spots. Oh, and don't get me started on the high-end clothing stores – found a green blazer that I couldn't resist.

Venice has a rich history as the economic capital for over 500 years. You see this opulence in places like Doge's Palace and the Cathedral of Gold (St. Mark's Cathedral). It's like stepping into a different era.

St. Mark's Square is the heart of the action. You can explore Doge's Palace, visit St. Mark's Cathedral, or head up the Campanile for a small fee. Just a heads up – no sitting down on the steps in St. Mark's Square; they're pretty strict about that.

Here's a lesson learned: don't just pick a random restaurant in Venice. Do your homework and find a place with good ratings on TripAdvisor. Trust me; it'll save you from a mediocre meal. And a modest tip of 5-10% is cool unless they've already added a service charge.

Avoiding crowds is key, but Venice is pretty much always busy. If you happen to catch a less crowded day, consider yourself lucky or plan your visit during off-peak months like November to March.

The Rialto Bridge is a must-see. It's crowded, sure, but the history behind it is fascinating. You can even snag a gondola ride for 80 Euros. Pro tip: all gondola prices are the same, but you'll pay extra if you want a serenade. My family opted for a private boat tour for 150 Euros, and it was totally worth it.

The boat tour through Venice's canals was surreal. The architecture, especially the Gothic style with Byzantine influence, is mind-blowing. Our guide shared some cool facts, like the Grand Canal's depth being around 17 feet. And yes, I even got to take the helm of the boat for a bit.

Oh, about where we stayed – we chose The Isimar Holiday Village an hour south of Venice. It meant a bit of driving, but the pool and relaxation were just what we needed. And finally, plan ahead. Venice rewards those who do their homework, so research your stay, pick your restaurants wisely, and don't forget to bring some spending money for those awesome souvenirs. Venice might not be a week-long destination, but a day or two is perfect. Trust me; it's an experience you won't forget.
