#GoLater: VirtualTravel to Grand Cayman Island with Monica Walton | Jetsetter.com

Looking for up-close encounters with beautiful wildlife? Pristine beaches? Incredible Caribbean cuisine? The biggest isle in the Cayman Islands—just an hour's flight from Miami—has it all. Don’t forget to subscribe!

0:50 Stingray City:

One of Cayman’s quintessential experiences is paying a visit to Stingray City, a collection of shallow sandbars in Grand Cayman’s North Sound home to a surprising number of—you guessed it—stingrays. It may be touristy, but there’s arguably no place easier (or more beautiful) to get up close and personal with these beautiful marine creatures. Five Star Charters gets you there in style, and has snorkeling gear, snacks, and drinks, and even a jet ski on board for excursions to Starfish Point (where you can see and hold live starfish) if you’d like to extend your afternoon of fun.

2:02 Barkers Beach:

Horseback riding on the beach is one of those pinch-me moments every animal lover should experience, and one of the best spots to do it is Barkers Beach. Part of Barkers National Park in West Bay, it's lined with dense mangroves and remains a beloved, uncrowded spot for taking a dip. Book a tour with Pampered Ponies and you’ll be able to take one of their horses out onto its untouched shores at the time of your choosing, be it early morning, at sunset, or under the moonlight. For an added experience, they’ll even de-saddle your horse so you can ride them bareback right into the sea. (Don’t worry—they love it!)

Cayman Islands Department of Tourism - Unravel Travel TV

Nestled in the calm, turquoise waters of the western Caribbean, lies the peaceful British Overseas Territory known as the Cayman Islands. Consisting of three islands just 480 miles south of Miami, Grand Cayman, Cayman Brac, and Little Cayman remain our little piece of paradise.

Government
The Cayman Islands highest official is the Governor, His Excellency, Mr. Duncan Taylor, CBE, who is the appointed representative of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. He presides over Cabinet, the ruling body of the country. Mr. Taylor succeeded Mr. Stuart Jack, CVO. The Governor's term is four years. The existing constitution of the Cayman Islands, introduced on August 22, 1972, provides for the government of the Cayman Islands as a British Overseas Territory. It established a governing body called the Cabinet, which consists of three officials and five elected members, the latter being selected from the 15 elected representatives of the Legislative Assembly. To see the 15 elected representatives or to get more information visit the Cayman Islands Government website.

Currency
The Cayman Islands has its own currency, first issued in 1972, whose basic unit is the dollar, issued in notes with denominations of CI$100, 50, 25, 10, 5 and 1 and coins valued at 25 cents, 10, 5 and 1 cent. The CI dollar has a fixed exchange rate with the US dollar of CI$1.00 equals US$1.25. Or, the US dollar equals CI $.80. There is no need for visitors to exchange their US dollars into local currency. The US dollar is accepted throughout the islands at a rate of CI 80 cents. However, this can be confusing to visitors: for example, a US$20 note becomes CI$16. Banks do NOT give a better rate of exchange! Major credit cards (with the exception of the Discover Card) and traveller's checks are widely accepted. Canadian dollars, Euro dollars and pounds sterling can be exchanged for CI dollars at local banks. In addition, Automatic Teller Machines accepting VISA and MasterCard with Cirrus affiliation are located at Cayman National Bank and other banks and at Owen Roberts International Airport as well as a few other locations such as the grocery stores.

Geography
The total land mass of the three islands is 100 square miles. Grand Cayman occupies 76 square miles; Cayman Brac, 14 square miles and Little Cayman, 10 square miles. Grand Cayman is approximately 22 miles long and 8 miles at its widest point, reaching a maximum elevation of 79.77 feet in North Side.

Cayman Brac is 14 miles long and 2 miles wide and has the most dramatic topography of the trio. Its majestic Bluff rises west to east along the length of the island to 151.75 above Spot Bay. Many mysterious caves are carved throughout this awe-inspiring natural attraction.

Little Cayman, only 10 miles long and a mile wide, is flat, reaching a maximum elevation of 55.75 ft. Its famous Bloody Bay wall Marine Park has been called one of the world's best dive sites. Inland, the 203 - acre Booby Pond Nature Reserve is a RAMSAR site and nesting ground for the Caribbean's largest population of Red Footed Boobies.

If you’re a bit more on the adventurous side, check out activities like diving the wreck of the Kittiwake. Grand Cayman is famous as a scuba diving destination and the wreck of the USS Kittiwake is one of the top spots to dive. Or descend into the 1000-year-old Crystal Caves and see the majestic limestone rock formations.

If you lean toward less adventurous outdoor activities, try hiking the Majestic Trail. The humidity gets pretty high and you’ll need to lather on some insect repellant to keep the bugs away but it’s a great spot to see the natural beauty of Grand Cayman without too many crowds. Or for an even more leisurely outdoor activity, spend a few hours strolling around George Town.
One of the must-see things to do in Grand Cayman is Seven Mile Beach. The beach, which is really only about five and a half miles long, is considered one of the best beaches in the Caribbean. Snorkel its crystal-clear waters, try stand-up paddleboarding, or enjoy a meal at one of the bars or casual restaurants along the beach.
Whatever kinds of activities you’re into, you’ll find plenty of things to do in Grand Cayman. In this video, we cover all our top recommendations. Seven Mile Beach | Cayman Islands Sotheby's International Realty | Caribbean

Seven Mile Beach, Grand Cayman - Moving to the west of George Town, you will travel along the West Bay Road which features the world famous crescent of Seven Mile Beach, a truly spectacular stretch of pure white sand which plays home to some of the finest luxury beach front properties within the Cayman Islands and the Caribbean with enviable ocean views and state-of-the-art amenities.
New construction is limited in this area but the length of Seven Mile Beach is fringed with condominiums which have either been very recently constructed or are well-established. The building code in the Cayman Islands has historically prevented the development of high rise condominium blocks which means that Seven Mile Beach remains a peaceful paradise with some of the least dense beach front real estate offerings in the Caribbean. The variety of property available on Seven Mile Beach however is great starting from an entry point of around US$300k right up to the super luxury residences to be found at The Ritz-Carlton Grand Cayman, Water's Edge, Caribbean Club and Water Colour's which can run into eight figure sums. Choose from family-friendly properties with lots of excellent lifestyle amenities such as tennis courts, swimming pools and gyms, as well as higher-end homes that incorporate the latest designs, materials and fixtures and fittings into a contemporary and luxurious property. Residences at The Ritz-Carlton Grand Cayman offer all the luxury lifestyle choices associated with hotel including the spectacular Silver Rain a La Prairie Spa, world class dining at Blue by Eric Ripert and a Nick Bollettieri designed tennis program, the coach behind such tennis greats as Andre Agassi, Monica Seles and Maria Sharapova.

On the east of the West Bay Road, running parallel to Seven Mile Beach, upscale condominiums and homes line the canals that bisect the land, creating local communities all along this stretch of Grand Cayman which overlooks the waterfront playground of the North Sound. The Ritz-Carlton Residences stand proudly on Seven Mile Beach, and the Resort as a whole straddles the entire width of the West Bay Road with the Ritz-Carlton Deckhouses overlooking the canals on the North Sound. On the North Sound side of the road a diverse selection of properties to suit a variety of budgets and a select collection of contemporary, luxury homes, many with their own boat deck, pool and incredible private view of the North Sound. The major waterfront developments with North Sound boat access are, starting south & working north: Camana Bay, Britannia Golf Resort, Snug Harbour, Canal Point, The Ritz-Carlton Deckhouses & The North Sound Club Golf Course, Crystal Harbour including The Grand Caymanian a Ramada Resort, Governor's Harbour, Cayman Islands Yacht Club, Vista del Mar and the newly developed Salt Creek a gated residential waterfront community of luxury homes. #SevenMileBeach #sothebysrealty #CaymanIslandsrealestate

The Downsides to Living in the Cayman Islands

While I love living in the Cayman Islands, no place in the world is perfect. In this video I share some of the less glamorous parts to living on this tropical island. Things that you wouldn't find in a glossy travel magazine. Of course, I am well aware that these are very minor, 'first world problems.' But they are things you should brace yourself for that not everyone would know when considering Grand Cayman or it's Caribbean sister islands as their future home. Now please excuse me whilst I soothe my island fever with a Cayman sunset.

As a British Overseas Territory, the Cayman Islands may be found in the western part of the Caribbean Sea and consist of three islands. The main island, Grand Cayman, is popular among tourists for its many resorts and excellent diving and snorkelling. In fact, many anglers use Cayman Brac as their departure point for trips to the deep sea. The smallest island in the Cayman Islands, Little Cayman, is home to a wide variety of animals and birds, including some species that are in risk of extinction.

Grand Cayman, Caribbean Island Cinematic Travel Video 2018

In 2018, we traveled to Grand Cayman, a breathtaking Caribbean island. This was definitely one of our favorite Caribbean islands that we have traveled to. We stayed on Seven Mile Beach. The water was crystal clear and the weather was perfect. Grand Cayman is the largest of the Cayman Islands, a British Overseas Territory in the Caribbean. George Town, its capital, is home to the Cayman Islands National Museum, dedicated to Caymanian heritage. The city is also a major cruise-ship port and site of the ruins of colonial-era Fort George. Beaches and vibrant coral reefs are the island’s hallmarks. The largest of the Cayman Islands, Grand Cayman is all about down-shifting into vacation mode. Seven Mile Beach and other sandy spots provide ample opportunities for sunbathing, while Stingray City (actually a sandbar) lets you bob along next to undulating stingrays. Starfish, turtles, and stalactite-filled caves are other natural attractions on hand. Those looking to hit the town can head to George Town for shopping and bars or the deliciously named Rum Point. If you have any questions about traveling to Grand Cayman, please do not hesitate to leave them in the comments and I will do my best to answer them.

Cayman Islands, Find Your Perfect Escapes - Unravel Travel TV

The Cayman Islands Department of Tourism (CIDOT) has launched its first TV advertising campaign in the UK for twenty years. Based on the theme of finding 'the perfect escape,' the 60-second advert features a couple on a dreamy holiday in the Cayman Islands, showcasing the destination's stunning beaches, crystal clear water and a selection of the activities on offer to visitors. The advert formed part of a wider advertising campaign which will also see outdoor digital displays appear on the London Underground system. The digital posters are currently being displayed alongside escalators in seven major underground stations – Baker Street, Charing Cross, Knightsbridge, South Kensington, Leicester Square, Victoria and Waterloo - for a period of two weeks.

Travel and luxury brand marketing specialist mr.h (re-appointed by the CIDOT in July 2017) engaged the services of London-based video production company Beast, who were behind the production of the advert. Founding partner of mr.h, Trevor Heley said: “The advert forms part of a new creative strategy for the Cayman Islands Department of Tourism with further new digital collateral to appear in the coming months, including Facebook and YouTube advertising.

“We wanted to raise the bar even higher in terms of raising awareness for the destination, putting the Cayman Islands front of mind when booking a holiday. Using the services of Sky AdSmart has meant that the TV advert can be served to Cayman's target audience in a much more efficient and effective way.”

Don McDougall, Regional Manager for the Cayman Islands Department of Tourism, Europe commented, “Together with mr.h, and using a combination of travel market insight and creative and media know-how, we have created a stunning 60-second snapshot of what a holiday in the Cayman Islands is like.

“People are looking beyond the traditional beach holiday. They are looking for new experiences, customised to their idea of escaping their daily lives and routines and where better to get them thinking about this than when they are on their way to work or winding down in their sitting rooms at home.

“We are very excited about re-engaging with our audience on a different and more captivating level.”
