Botswana Part 2 - Savuti, Khwai North Gate and Xakanaxa - EP16

2007 Botswana Part 2 - Okavango Delta and Savuti

In part two of our 2007 Botswana trip we travel from Maun to the Okavango Delta then on to somewhere near Khwai where we get lost and spend the night in the bush on the side of the road. We also have our fair share of getting stuck and recoveries. We are surprised by and angry elephant who does not like us being around! We end the episode in Savuti on Christmas day in 2007

Safari in Savuti Botswana in September

Savuti is an area of Chobe National Park to the East of the Okavango delta. At his time of year we are approaching the last couple of months of the dry season, and the temperature is starting to ramp up in the days, although nights are still very cold.

Savuti is a semi arid area and as such there is little natural surface water, especially as the Savuti channel, which used to fill the savuti marsh, last flowed in 2015 and has long since dried up. The Park staff maintain several boreholes to keep some waterholes open in order to sustain the large herds of elephants and other game.

Mainy other animals such as zebras and buffalo have migrated away to more greener pastures.

A week in the bush

Low Season Africa Ep2: Botswana

This week we caught up with Warren Pearson of Africa Roam to learn more about the low season experience in Botswana as we discussed the incredible diversity of this wonderful country which is the size of France but with a population of just over 2 million people. We also discussed the concerning recent deaths of hundreds of Botswana's elephants, why photographs taken in high season don't always tell the full story and why it's so valuable to have a true local guide when out bush walking in most parts of the country. Join us as we learn more from our very own intrepid ranger, explorer and fellow of the Royal Geographical Society...
