A baby elephant runs after her owner as he leaves her at the Sonepur Cattle Fair in India's state of Bihar. She has just been sold and is heartbroken to have to leave her master. As the master drives away on his motorcycle after having sold her at Asia's largest animal fair, she chases after him, and semi-growls semi-cries to be taken back. She finally blocks his path with her foot, until he finally gets off his bike and has to walk with her to have her tied up.
But all this to no avail - the sale is final! A poignant moment from Bihar, India.
The Sonepur Cattle Fair or Malegaon Mela is held on Kartik Poornima (the full moon day) in the month of November in Sonepur, Bihar, on the confluence of river Ganges and Gandak. It is also known as Harihar Kshetra Mela and it attracts visitors from all over Asia. Till date, it is the biggest cattle fair of Asia and stretches on from fifteen days to one month. It has its origins during ancient times. This is when Chandragupta Maurya used to buy elephants and horses across the river Ganges. The Sonepur Cattle Fair once used to attract traders from places as distant as Central Asia.
Many farm animals can be bought at the Sonepur mela from all breeds of dogs, buffaloes, donkeys, ponies, Persian horses, rabbits, goats and even the occasional camel. Many varieties of birds and poultry are also available. The area that attracts all, however, is the Haathi Bazaar where elephants are lined up for sale. The Sonepur Fair is the only one where such a large number of elephants are traded - although they cannot legally be sold. Numerous stalls are also set up at the grounds of the Sonepur Cattle Fair. You will find a wide variety of goods in these stalls, ranging from garments, to weapons and furniture, toys, utensils and agricultural implements, jewelry and handicrafts. Major attraction is the sight of numerous elephants, beautifully decorated for the purpose of sale.

Nampuu The Baby Elephant Cuddles Tourists at The Patara Elephant Farm in Thailand
A baby elephant has become a star attraction at a farm in Thailand where he falls into the arms of tourists and demands to be cuddled.
The endearingly playful infant named Nampuu - which means 'fountain' in Thai - lives at the Patara Elephant Farm in the northern city of Chiang Mai.
Images of the encounters between Nampuu and unwitting tourists show visitors screaming in delight as the cheeky calf climbs on top of them, falls between their arms and wraps his trunk around their heads.
During the visit to the farm, tourists can take part in an 'Elephant Owner for the Day' package tour. The tour allows them to learn all about what is involved in rearing and caring for elephants.
During the tour, the trainers explain to visitors the communication, health, feeding, bathing, and the temperament of the elephants.
According to the farm's Facebook page, baby Nampuu is always supervised by his mother Ploy, just in case he becomes too unruly during playtime with tourists.
She also calls her baby boy to her with a rumbling sound when it is time for him to breastfeed.
The farm have expressed their delight at the progress of their cuddly little star. They had noted he was born a lot smaller than normal newborns and were worried for his survival.
In fact, Nampuu only weighed 148lbs when he was born, well under the 220lbs of most newborns upon delivery.
The farm even designed a little step so little Nampuu could reach his tall mother for a feed.
