Stopped by POLICE While Sailing in BVI - Is it OVER? [Ep. 22]

We are stopped and told to LEAVE THE COUNTRY! This is sail life during lockdown in BVI (British Virgin Islands). Follow our travel vlog as we sail around the world and tell our sailboat living story. Quarantine gets in the way, but will not stop us!

We want to note that despite the catchy title, we were very impressed by the way the BVI Customs and Immigration team handled the situation. This was at the very beginning of the pandemic when no one was sure what to do or what was going to happen. At the time this was filmed we were allowed to sail but not go ashore, this was what we were told by officials. Since then that has changed greatly. We respect their decisions to keep their country safe.

We are Kate and Curtis aboard our boat Sweet Ruca. We are kind of like Sailing la Vagabonde, except we have a sailing dog named Roxy instead of a kid, and a monohull instead of a catamaran.

Come sailing around the world with us and learn how to sail as you go! Other sailing channels we like are Uma, Soulianis, Zatara, Nahoa, Delos, and Doodles (without the sexy Instagram models).

British Virgin Islands Sailing - On Top of the World

Some of the footage from our Sailing Holiday in the British Virgin Islands.

ep67 - Sailing Tortola – Sailing BVI - Parasailor Spinnaker - Hallberg-Rassy 54 Cloudy Bay –Mar 2019

Flying our ISTEC Parasailor spinnaker for the first time, as we sail downwind from Virgin Gorda to Tortola, BVI. Then tour the island along with the drone.

As we sail west to Tortola, the wind is perfect to try our new ISTEC Parasailor spinnaker (228sqm), which Oana managed to find for sale on the internet. We are a bit nervous, but all goes well for a first sail. Not so with the drone, which was not cooperating and used up one of its nine-lives when we try to fly it!
After snuffling the Parasailor, we make a lunch stop at Sandy Cay, next to Jost Van Dyke Island, then anchor in Cane Garden Bay and have an evening sunset stroll on the beach.
Next day we move onto a mooring in Sopers Hole and tour all around Tortola in a rental car.
14-17 March 2019
Visited: Jost Van Dyke, Virgin Gorda, Sandy Cay, Tortola, Cane Garden Bay, Sopers Hole Wharf, Nany Cay Marina, Road Town, Beef Island, Camanoe Island, Tellis Bay, Little Bay, Guana Island, Rogue Bay, Brewers Bay, Paraquita Bay, Christian’s bar on Road Town waterfront.

CATAMARAN SAILING IN THE VIRGIN ISLANDS ! Virgin Island is awesome ! We sail thru many islands and explored under the water and on land. The islands are stunning and full of activities to explore. Beautiful sunset and great food waited for us. So fortunate to be able to spend some time cruising around this awesome place on our Lagoon 42. We were also very sad to see the destruction caused by hurricane Irma to the BVI s. We saw first hand the devastating aspects of this catastrophic event in this beautiful place.

We're the Stevens family. We quit our jobs, sold everything we own, and bought a sailboat in a foreign country with very little sailing experience.

We are not rich, and will be penniless by the time we are done sailing. Even so, we felt like we were buying an invaluable experience with our money, and have zero regrets.

Our focus is to experience challenges together as a family, live a sustainable, off-grid existence on our boat, and enjoy adventures in new places.

We want our young children to have an account of their adventures when they are older. Our sailing vlog serves as a record of this special time in our lives.

Join us as we navigate new waters in our Knysna 440 catamaran, and experience with us the ups and downs of learning to live the vagabond life.

Ep 148 True Offshore Sailing | 420nm Adventure | BVI's to Grenada

This episode covers our big (420nm) passage from Nanny Cay, Tortola, BVI’s to Port Louis Marina in Grenada. The point of doing so was twofold. The driving factor was that we’d never visited any of the Caribbean islands south of Saint Lucia, and it was time for that to change. Of secondary importance, once you’ve sailed west from Antigua and Sint Maarten, getting back to those locations entails an epic upwind slog. Most sailors simply motor the entire 40nm route legs between each. And it’s a pounding trip. No fun at all.

So having experienced those before, we opted instead to enjoy a better sailing angle, and cut directly south to Grenada with no stops in between. But to start things off, we had a few small segments that needed to be included.

The episode kicks off with footage of a visit by Luis Oliviera, one of our two crew members for our 2019 ARC Atlantic crossing from Las Palmas, in the Canary Islands. That trip was nearly 3,000nm, and we got to know Luis well. As I state in the segment, I’ve met and sailed with a lot of captains, and Luis is probably the best (definitely in the top two) that I’ve ever been close to. Should viewers need his services as either a delivery captain or for mid-to-large yacht coaching, Luis the guy for the job. Luis can be contacted on WhatsApp +351 929 030 208 or email at luismfo@gmail.com

Beyond that, my brother Brendan and his wife Dara came to visit to do a little monohull sailing with us, during which I retrieved a tree trunk with our anchor. That was fun. It really was.

Finally, our dear friend Scott came out to help with the Grenada passage. And that’s the meat of the episode. A wonderful sleigh ride from the BVIs down to Grenada. What a great trip!
