After 2 years of saving $ and over 2 million miles and points, we sold our cars and apartment and left home January 10, 2016. We started this #travelvlog to share our experiences with friends and family, then decided we really liked vlogging and traveling, and we didn’t want to stop after just one year! After achieving our new goal of 100 countries and then all 7 continents (check out our documentary here: we had no plans to slow down, until 2020 decided to force us to ;) which is when we bought a converted Sprinter van to start exploring our own country for the first time. #Vanlife was a major adjustment and so different than flying every week like we were used to, but we are incredibly thankful to be able to continue doing something we love every day. ????????????

We had an awesome first 3 days on our PCH road trip, but unfortunately it came to an abrupt end. This seems to be a trend in 2020...plans getting turned upside down. BUT first, we got to explore Long Beach :)

We've escaped to the wilderness & we're building our home at a cabin in the woods ... a phrase that we didn't think we'd be saying just one short year ago. But, if 2020 taught us anything it was to embrace change so with that spirit we are looking forward to all of the many blessings, lessons and love that 2021 has in store for us all.
Speaking of change, this week really shakes things up for us! For starters, we become foster parents to a sweet elder dog named Mossa. His owner of 11 years has recently passed away so we look forward to giving him a great life until we can find his forever home. ANNNDDDD in continuation of the hanging drywall fiasco from last week we give mudding & taping a go lol. Help!

Who are we?
We're Eamon and Bec, a Canadian couple who previously lived and traveled full-time in our self converted Sprinter Van!! When the pandemic hit earlier this year we made the difficult decision to abandon our van in Africa and fly home to Canada. Now we're here... living at a cabin in the Canadian wilderness. We've always envisioned moving into the woods by the lake and building our dream tiny cabin as a home base for us to come back to in between our international travels. We cannot wait to have a place to call our own!!
Our goal here is to inspire you to chase after your own dreams! We hope to create a community of like-minded, positive individuals who will grow to love and support one another on their own journeys.

MAJOR CHANGE OF PLANS (Van life update)
UPDATE - This week we have a major change of plans as the border crossing we were hoping to use from Spain to Morocco is closed ???? Leaving us no choice than to book a 47 hour ferry from Marseille in France over to Morocco.
But STILL not complaining, we're well on our way to completing Mission: DRIVE TO MOROCCO in our bus! ???????? ???? Woohoo where we've decided we don't want another cold winter in the UK. Our mates @eamonandbec mentioned they'd be heading back to Morocco to pick up their van trinity and we couldn't think of a lovelier place to spend Christmas ????
In the mean time, we travel to Biarritz and spend the day with a lovely local French man✌️

SUPER POLAR BEAR TUBES
You may know a polar bear tube is a PVC pipe with water inside it and the ends sealed. You store them in the freezer and put them in your cooler when it’s time to go. They are a reusable, space-saving, high-efficiency, no-mess solution to keeping your food cold while camping. You can make SUPER polar bear tubes by adding ½ cup salt per gallon to the water in those tubes. The salted water freezes at a lower temperature so the ice in the tubes lasts longer.
To make your own Polar Bear Tubes, measure the internal dimensions of your cooler and determine if you want the tubes to run the long way or the short way in the cooler – you may want some of each. Also measure the internal dimensions of the freezer where you’ll store the tubes when not in the cooler! You want them to fit easily in the freezer, too.
Cut PVC tubes one inch shorter than the length you measured. Use either 1 ½-inch or 2-inch PVC pipe. Remember, the larger the mass of the ice inside the tube, the longer it will last, so larger tubes will stay cool longer than smaller ones.
With an appropriate sized cap and PVC cement, seal one end of the tube. Follow directions on the cement for drying time, then fill the tube just over ¾ full (80 percent is about right) with salted water. The empty space allows expansion of the freezing water without breaking the tube. A mix of ½ cup salt per gallon of water will result in a solution just a bit more salty than seawater. It will freeze at about 28 F rather than 32 F.
Carefully seal the open end with cap and allow to the cement to cure with the tube standing upright so the water doesn’t reach the cement. Decorate the tubes anyway you see fit. Make them unique, because you want to keep track of your SUPER tubes. Once the cement is cured, put the tubes in your freezer, and they will be ready for your next outing.
MAKE A GREAT GRIPPY BOTTOM
When you throw a normal cooler into the bed of a pickup truck or on the wet deck of a boat, it slides all over the place. It gets banged up and wrecks stuff around it. Heaven forbid, you should want to stand on it to get a better view of … whatever. A few large anti-skid pads strategically placed on the bottom of the cooler quickly eliminate all those problems.
To ensure good adhesion to the plastic, if the surface is rough smooth with some sandpaper or emery cloth. Then use rubbing alcohol to clean off the places where you intend to attach the pads.
BUILD A FALSE BOTTOM BONANZA
Those Super Polar Bear tubes you made in Hack #1? Another great use for a couple of them is to support a false bottom in your cooler. That way if you use regular ice in addition to the tubes or any of the frozen food thaws, the run off drains to the bottom of the cooler but the contents stay high and dry above it.
Making a false bottom is so easy! Get a length of that white, coated wire shelf material. Cut it down so it fits in the bottom of the cooler. Zip tie two or three polar bear tubes between the wires and lay the system in the bottom of the cooler. Voila! You’re done. No more nasty melt water and who-knows-what-else slurry contaminating your camping food.
WORLD’S MOST IMPORTANT COOLER HACK
The best thing you can do to preserve ice and keep everything colder is put an added layer of insulation at the top. A couple of custom cut pieces of foam insulation work well, but even better is a flexible foam pad (like the backing on mouse pad) that can lay over the top. Then when you open the cooler you lift up only the end of the pad you need to access what you’re after.
The more insulation, the better. Take whatever material you decide to use for your cooler pad and cut to size so it fits snugly just at the top of the cooler. If you go for two layers, cut the inner layer in half and glue it to the single top layer. This makes a “hinged” lid so you only expose half the contents to that nasty warm air when you open it.

We're Tom and Iz, who live and travel in our van La Bamba. We love nature and are currently traveling in Norway!!
You might find Tom in the forest IDing a mushroom, fixing something or starting an ambitious project with his laid-back relaxed approach whereas you could find Isabel cooking up a storm, sunning herself on a beach and being a busy, energetic bee with her endless enthusiasm and positivity! We are total opposites but it works!
How did we end up here?! ???? ⏮
We met 10 years ago when we were both finishing our A-levels and had a whirlwind summer romance, hitch-hiking around France together before before going our separate ways to travel and to university. We've both always prioritised travel and adventure and have worked hard over the years in hospitality jobs to enable us to keep exploring.
Tom hitch-hiked across Europe and road tripped around Australia whilst Iz studied Environmental Science at York. Iz backpacked around South America with her sister whilst Tom studied Forestry at Aberdeen University. Little did we know we just weren't going to get each other out of our minds! Fast forward 4 years later, we found ourselves in campsite warden job, living in a bell tent in a wild flower meadow together! Maybe without realising this was the start of our van life journey!
Next, we both trained to be science teachers and during training, we bought a van, ripped out it's interior and converted it to live in it. Iz managed to get a remote work-from-home job that she could do from the van and Tom was passionate about starting up a YouTube channel.
Since then we haven't looked back and when the pandemic allowed us to, we travelled to Spain, Portugal, Scotland, Ireland, Wales and around Cornwall. We are now on a big European road trip! We are giving it our best shot to do YouTube full time. We have a dream of one day owning a little plot of land and building ourselves a cabin in the woods. Our message on our channel is to inspire others to do what they love as life is too short! We love living simply, freely with less stuff but more time!

HUGE Change of Plans for Van Life...
The past week has changed pretty much everything about our plans to start van life, so keep watching to hear about what happened, and more importantly, what happens next!
Oh, we also ripped out the sink cabinet that we quite literally JUST build in order to take a few inches. Turns out, making it more space-efficient in our van’s kitchen alley was a brilliant idea (because when you can hardly fit through it, surprisingly it isn’t very fun to use!)

We are a couple of full-time travel dreamers who decided to pack up our lives to explore the world - and then 2020 happened. After flying back home, we were not ready to give up our new lifestyle yet, so we bought a minivan, converted it into a DIY minivan camper, and drove across Canada in search of beautiful campsites and stunning mountains to climb. We are currently on a different sort of adventure, converting a Ford Transit cargo van into our new full-time home on wheels in hopes of exploring North America and conquering more mountains - and hopefully even the Arctic Ocean!

A Change in Plans
We have mechanical issues with our Truma Combi causing us to have no heat and no hot water. We have it at a great shop in Decatur, Andy's RV with some great, very knowledgeable people. Truma requires the whole unit to be sent to them to diagnose (and we were unable to get in any of the Truma centers nor any service center in Florida) and are saying our 5 year old unit is obsolete and they may not be able to get parts. They will replace it with a new unit if that is the case, which is good news. The bad news is we were supposed to be in Florida weeks ago and meeting friends and spending time with Mark's brother, who already has tickets and set plans for us.
We made the difficult decision to leave our RV, which is our home, in Decatur and head to Mark's brother in Florida for a few days in our car.
We had the RV winterized and left it in their hands. Hopefully it will be repaired when we return and we will be able to get back down to visit with our friends soon.
We got a little birding and beach in with quick stops on the way to Mark's brother's house. We are very excited to spend time with him and my SIL.
