A silent evening walk in BAKU, the capital of AZERBAIJAN

Hi everyone! This is episode two of my Caucasus series in which I travel through Azerbaijan, Georgia and Armenia.

In this video, I take an early evening walk from Baku City Centre to the Baku Promenade next to the Caspian Sea. It is a silent walking tour, which allows you to experience the sights and sounds of beautiful Baku in a different way.

Because many of the restaurants play music and I don't want to receive a copyright strike, I had to improvise with the video editing and therefore had to cut certain parts of the video. However, you will still be able to get an idea of life in Baku in the evening - beautiful walking areas in the centre, restaurants that come to life and a promenade next to the Caspian Sea where life is slow, tranquil and peaceful.

Hope you enjoy this video on Baku! If you haven't done it yet, please hit the like and subscribe buttons and leave a comment for me in the comments section. It really helps this channel to grow and it allows me to make more content such as this.

Thanks again for travelling along!

Exploring BAKU, the Caspian Sea capital of AZERBAIJAN

Hello everyone! This is the first video in my new series on the Caucasus, which will see me travel in Azerbaijan, Georgia and Armenia.

In this episode, I explore the legendary capital of Azerbaijan - Baku. Baku is situated next to the Caspian Sea, the largest inland body of water in the world. In fact, Baku is 28 meters below sea level.

The vlog starts with me giving some background as to the name 'Baku', explaining some of the various interpretations and nicknames. I then point out some of the buildings along the Baku Promenade, including the Deniz Mall and the iconic Flame Towers.

After gazing upon the Flame Towers, I talk about the Azerbaijan flag in the square, before providing some more first impressions of the city. I then go to the area outside the Azerbaijan Carpet Museum, admiring the design and talking more about the history of the country and, in particular, the importance of the year 1918.

For our next stop after walking along the Baku Promenade and visiting several sites of interest, including the beautiful gardens, I head to the city center where I have a coffee at a place based on a famous TV series - I won't spoil the surprise just yet!

I then visit the Old City or Icherisheher, where I talk more about the history. We also visit the areas around the Maiden Tower and Shirvanshah Palace, after which we enter the (free) Baku Museum of Miniature Books.

The city center is the next stop, where I make comments on how it feels to walk there and compare it to other places I have been.

Finally, I head to the metro station 28 May, but along the way we also pass Leo Tolstoy street and an area that has a more local feel than the cosmopolitan center. I also stumble across the Winter Park and the Heydar Aliyev Gardens.

Hope you enjoy! Please remember to hit the subscribe and like buttons if you haven't already, and please leave a comment for me in the comment section - I love your engagement!

Is Baku, Azerbaijan all a facade? - What They NEVER Show You

This is Baku, Azerbaijan! The capital of Azərbaycan (Azerbaycan) is located on the Caspian Sea coast and the easternmost point of the Caucasus region!
Often dubbed The Dubai of the Caucasus, oil rich Baku is known for its glitz, glam, lavish mega-projects and as a playground for the rich and famous of Azerbaijan. But it's not all like that. Azerbaijan is a country still very much developing and the average wage even in the bright lights of Baku is still only $300 USD per month (this during a period of high inflation and rising costs of living).
On the face of it, for most tourists, the city and the country may give the impressions that, like Dubai or Abu Dhabi, most are well off. However at present that just isn't the case, and many of the large skyscrapers and refurbished building shells hide the real Baku. The Baku where people still have to work two jobs to provide the necessities for their families, the Baku where people have the illegally extend their apartments just to have enough space to live. That begs the question, is Baku all a façade?

From Baku it is only a 'short hop' across the 'worlds largest inland body of water' to Kazakhstan! Just 4000km's to go to Almaty!

But first, welcome to Azerbaijan! ????????

EXTREME Street Food in Azerbaijan!! KING OF KEBABS + Local Food in Baku, Azerbaijan!

???????? Best Senegalese Food:
???? Subscribe:

BAKU, AZERBAIJAN - Welcome to Baku, an exciting city on the Caspian Sea in Azerbaijan! Today I’m hanging out with my friends from reAzerbaijan, and we’re taking you on an ultimate and extreme street food tour - it’s going to be meaty! #ExperienceAzerbaijan #Baku

First of all, a huge thank you to reAzerbaijan for arranging my trip to Azerbaijan, it wouldn’t have been possible without them.

reAzerbaijan:
Adnan:

As Adnan and Farhad explained to me, unfortunately during the Soviet period, Azerbaijan wasn’t able to develop their street food culture that much and creativity was omitted. When Azerbaijan broke away from the Soviet Union, it was the Turkish who influenced much of the Azerbaijani street food culture. So you will definitely find some similarities, and yet some differences.

We started this extreme street food tour in Baku by going to one of the oldest Soviet style cafes for a quick piroshky on the go. It was pretty oily, but pretty tasty especially when drenched in tomato sauce.

Amin Kabab - Next stop on this food tour, we went to Amin Kabab, a small neighborhood kebab grill for a quick Lyulya kebab, or chopped meat kebab.

Eskulap Restoran - If you’re looking for one of the best local Azerbaijan kebab meat restaurants in Baku, this is the spot. Adnan explained it’s a legendary restaurant he’s been coming to since he was a kid. They specialize in all things lamb, and along with a variety of stews and braised dishes, one of their specialties is the Khan Kebab, lamb liver wrapped in caul fat and grilled. I also loved the lamb braised in sour plums and barberries and the insane dessert kebab of ground walnuts and lamb fat. What a meal!

To continue this extreme street food tour in Baku we headed to a lamb street where lambs hang on the street, you choose your cut from nose to tail. The organs and jaws are some of the most popular items here. We tried lamb jaws and testicles - both of which were pretty tasty.

Köz Halil Usta - Finally to complete this food tour, we had to eat at Köz Halil Usta for tantuni, a Turkish in origin food, but one of the most popular street foods in Azerbaijan. They fry up beef slices with spices and sunflower oil and wrap into your choice of bread or lavash. It’s something you could watch all day being made and it’s so incredibly addictive.

And that wraps up Azerbaijani food tour in Baku. It’s an incredible city and the lamb and meats are spectacular!

Thank you again to Adnan from reAzerbaijan for arranging my trip!

???????? Explore Baku, capital of Azerbaijan | by One Minute City

Baku (US: /bɑːˈkuː, ˈbɑːkuː/, UK: /bæˈkuː, ˈbækuː/;[7][8] Azerbaijani: Bakı [bɑˈcɯ] (listen)) is the capital and largest city of Azerbaijan, as well as the largest city on the Caspian Sea and of the Caucasus region. Baku is located 28 metres (92 ft) below sea level, which makes it the lowest lying national capital in the world and also the largest city in the world located below sea level. Baku lies on the southern shore of the Absheron Peninsula, alongside the Bay of Baku. Baku's urban population was estimated at two million people as of 2009. Baku is the primate city of Azerbaijan - it is the sole metropolis in the country, and about 25% of all inhabitants of the country live in Baku's metropolitan area.

Baku is divided into twelve administrative raions and 48 townships. Among these are the townships on the islands of the Baku Archipelago, and the town of Oil Rocks built on stilts in the Caspian Sea, 60 kilometres (37 miles) away from Baku. The Inner City of Baku, along with the Shirvanshah's Palace and Maiden Tower, were inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2000.

The city is the scientific, cultural, and industrial centre of Azerbaijan. Many sizeable Azerbaijani institutions have their headquarters there. In recent years, Baku has become an important venue for international events. It hosted the 57th Eurovision Song Contest in 2012, the 2015 European Games, 4th Islamic Solidarity Games, the European Grand Prix in 2016, the Azerbaijan Grand Prix since 2017, hosted the final of the 2018–19 UEFA Europa League, and was one of the host cities for UEFA Euro 2020. The Baku International Sea Trade Port is capable of handling two million tonnes of general and dry bulk cargoes per year.

The city is renowned for its harsh winds, which is reflected in its nickname, the City of Winds.

Baku. Paris of the East! Capital of Azerbaijan.

Nestled on the shores of the Caspian Sea, Baku, the capital city of Azerbaijan, is often referred to as The Paris of the East for its unique blend of culture, history, and modernity. With its stunning architecture, vibrant atmosphere, and rich heritage, Baku offers visitors a captivating experience that rivals the charm of the European capital.

A Cultural Melting Pot
Baku's cultural landscape is a testament to its diverse history. Influenced by Persian, Russian, Ottoman, and Soviet traditions, the city boasts a fascinating fusion of architectural styles, from medieval Islamic structures to sleek contemporary buildings. The Old City, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, encapsulates Baku's ancient past with its maze-like streets, historic mosques, and imposing fortifications.

Architectural Marvels
One of Baku's most iconic landmarks is the Flame Towers, a trio of skyscrapers that dominate the city's skyline. Lit up at night to resemble flames, these architectural marvels symbolize Azerbaijan's rich oil heritage and modern aspirations. Additionally, the Heydar Aliyev Center, designed by renowned architect Zaha Hadid, showcases futuristic curves and innovative design, attracting architecture enthusiasts from around the world.

Culinary Delights
Baku's culinary scene is a reflection of its multicultural identity. Visitors can indulge in a variety of mouthwatering dishes, from aromatic kebabs and flavorful pilafs to delectable pastries and sweets. Traditional Azerbaijani tea houses, known as chaykhanas, offer a cozy retreat to savor local teas and desserts while immersing oneself in the city's bustling ambiance.

Cultural Extravaganza
Throughout the year, Baku hosts a myriad of cultural events and festivals that celebrate its heritage and creativity. From the Baku Jazz Festival to the Azerbaijan International Film Festival, there's always something happening in the city to delight art aficionados and music lovers alike. The annual Novruz Bayram, a traditional spring festival, brings the streets of Baku to life with vibrant performances, colorful decorations, and joyful festivities.

A Modern Oasis
In addition to its historical allure, Baku is a modern metropolis with world-class amenities and attractions. The Boulevard along the Caspian Sea offers panoramic views, leisurely promenades, and trendy cafes, making it a favorite spot for locals and tourists alike. Meanwhile, the Baku Crystal Hall and Baku Olympic Stadium host international events, showcasing the city's prowess on the global stage.

Conclusion
Baku's moniker as The Paris of the East is well-deserved, as it embodies the sophistication, charm, and cultural richness reminiscent of its European counterpart.
