This is Baku, Azerbaijan! The capital of Azərbaycan (Azerbaycan) is located on the Caspian Sea coast and the easternmost point of the Caucasus region!
Often dubbed The Dubai of the Caucasus, oil rich Baku is known for its glitz, glam, lavish mega-projects and as a playground for the rich and famous of Azerbaijan. But it's not all like that. Azerbaijan is a country still very much developing and the average wage even in the bright lights of Baku is still only $300 USD per month (this during a period of high inflation and rising costs of living).
On the face of it, for most tourists, the city and the country may give the impressions that, like Dubai or Abu Dhabi, most are well off. However at present that just isn't the case, and many of the large skyscrapers and refurbished building shells hide the real Baku. The Baku where people still have to work two jobs to provide the necessities for their families, the Baku where people have the illegally extend their apartments just to have enough space to live. That begs the question, is Baku all a façade?
From Baku it is only a 'short hop' across the 'worlds largest inland body of water' to Kazakhstan! Just 4000km's to go to Almaty!

Azerbaijan or as it is known as the Land of Fire was kind of an unknown to me as a travel destination and so I decided to travel there and spend a month exploring the country from the hyper-modern capital city of Baku to the peculiar exclave republic of Nakhchivan. The journey begins at a site where they discovered several prehistoric rock carvings not too far from Baku.
The history of Azerbaijan stretched back to prehistoric times which is evidenced by the rock carvings in Gobustan and that's where our journey begins in the video. From the empty vastness of the land to humans existing throughout prehistoric times, to the discovery of fire that sprawled up all kinds of civilization, and then there was oil and that where the intro ends and our journey in modern-day Azerbaijan begins.
The video will take you through some of the most incredible sights in the hyper-modern city of Baku before making our way out into the mountains in the Azerbaijani Caucasus.
For this video, I wanted to show you the crazy development that came after the discovery of oil in the country, and you will notice many reference to the fact throughout the video such as the footages of the oil pumps and the excessive use of moving car footages after the intro. The journey picks up from there and you will see several footages of all the beautiful landscapes, architectures, and the people I met during the trip, all rapidly cut in a way that should help you imagine what Azerbaijan is like.

In this video, we started our journey from Baku to an epic holiday adventure to Shahdag Mountain Resort in Azerbaijan! ????❄️????
But wait, it got even more exciting! We took a scenic route via Quba village, and let me tell you, the views were out of this world! ????
The snow-capped mountains were rising majestically in the distance, and the landscape was a mesmerizing blend of white and blue.
The air was crisp, and the anticipation was building as we drove through the winding roads, surrounded by pristine snow-covered peaks. ❄️????️
It was like stepping into a winter wonderland!
We can hardly contain our excitement! Couldn't wait to hit the slopes and experience the thrill of winter sports at Shahdag Resort.
Overall, the road trip from Baku to Shahdag Mountain Resort via Quba village was a breathtaking journey through the scenic beauty of Azerbaijan's countryside, offering stunning mountain views, picturesque villages, and an unforgettable winter wonderland experience.
