Mrs W was invited to Aruba by the tourist board on a press trip recently, and armed with only an iPhone she created this video. Her base for the stay was the luxurious Hilton Aruba Caribbean Beach Resort & Casino.
A tour of the north of the island with ABC tours was interesting, Ralph the tour guide was an amiable host. A laid back lunch at the Pelican Nest at Eagle Beach included delicious fish tacos.
If you love street art, San Nicolas is well worth visiting, Bobby Farrell (an Arubian) from Boney M is immortalised on the street art. For something different take a foraging trip with Frank ‘Taki’ Kelly, a local character. Take a visit to Aruba Aloe, to see the factory and museum, and find out about the beneficial properties of aloe vera. A glass bead making workshop at Terrafuse was interesting, you can come away with a bracelet or necklace, made by your very own hands.
Dinner on the beach, with the perfect sunset at Elements rounded up the trip.

Caribbean | Lesser Antilles | Aruba (One Happy Island)
Our first port of call on the Carnival Glory, Southern Caribbean cruise itinerary.
Initially I wasn't looking forward to this port as judging by the shore excursions available, there was not really alot on offer, which made me think that it was going to be one of the 'not so good' ports. We were in port for a 12 hours which was quite a long stay, probably because of the next port being on the island of Bonaire which is one of the neighbouring islands in the Lesser Antilles.
We decided to not to book any of the ship excursions and just did our own thing in the port since the streetcar into to town is free. It's not really necessary but more a fun novelty that is a result of the Dutch influence on the island.
While we were in Oranjestad some of the back streets appeared to be run down at first, but it became apparent that a lot of urban gentrification was taking place as the streetcars were quite new along with alot of refurbished shops, some belonging to some high end brands in fashion.
On the subject of fashion the Renaissance Mall is full of designer brands- though you'll need a healthy source of cash if you really want to buy the nice things! There is a water taxi service between the Mall and the marina where there were one or two high end superyachts berthed up.
Downtown Oranjestad was very relaxing to walk around and there are numerous bars and restaurants all over to suit everyone's tastes. We spent quite alot of time at Gelatissimo Bistro (Outside of the Renaissance Mall entrance on 1 Havenstraat. We sat in the outside bar area which is in the middle of a court yard- and luckily timed our visit for the start of happy hour- the food and drinks were great, and it was just nice to sit down, relax and watch the world go by with a nice cocktail(s) in your hand!
I think given more time i.e a longer stay of a week in Aruba there would be much more to see as I could see on a map of the island when I got home. I think I'd definetely go back.

Abbiamo diviso in 5 video tutto quello che abbiamo visto in 17 giorni in quest’isola felice.
Perché Aruba è soprannominata ONE HAPPY ISLAND? Perché è l’isola caraibica fuori dalla zona degli uragani, perché c’è sempre il sole (anche perché essendoci un gran vento le nuvole difficilmente riescono a fermarsi) e perché gli abitanti sono fantastici, sorridenti e non invadenti.
Nel video si vedono le spiagge di Boca Catalina, di Fisherman Beach e la gita fatta con Jolly Pirates,gita assolutamente da non perdere, sia a livello organizzativo che di tempi una delle migliori gite che abbiamo mai fatto in giro per il mondo.
La gita l'abbiamo prenotata direttamente online sul loro sito, dove abbiamo anche chiesto un pasto vegetariano nelle richieste speciali.
Un consiglio? Soffermarsi al minuto 3:24 del video…c’è qualcosa di strano…e noi ce ne siamo accorti solo nel momento del montaggio video!! LA NATURA E’ STRAORDINARIA, O NO?
