Tibetan Village Himalaya ????????

■ HIMALAYA, MUNDU: The village of Mundu, although situated in Nepal, is culturally, linguistically and architecturally Tibetan. The people who live here, although Nepalese by citizenship, are Tibetan by heritage, language and culture.

Their ancestors were nomadic and moved about in the Himalayan mountain range with their livestock looking for grazing fields and fertile soil. With the Chinese conquest of their lands, Nepal, unlike some other neighboring countries have magnanimously given them citizenship.

They describe themselves as both Tibetans and Nepalese though and speak both languages. They continue to be a mountain dwelling people at heart and whenever I asked anyone about moving to a warmer city where life is presumably easier, the answer was: NO!

Having been brought here by Kartok Lama, the woman who runs Hard Rock Cafe up here in these mountains you saw in my previous video, I was told I could spend the night to experience and get a unique insight into Tibetan village life in the Himalayas.

Naturally this was an opportunity I was obviously not going to miss....

■ If you wish to contact Kartok Lama and visit her Hard Rock Cafe in Himalaya's Langtang mountain range or her village, you can call her on: 984 988 1673 If you need a guide to take you up here, her sister's son can be reached on Instagram: go_himalaya

■ NEWS: One free rice beer on location in Mundu village for everyone who LIKES this video ????

Secrets of the Sacred Lake | Full Documentay | TRACKS

In an almost untouched corner of North East Asia, 3200 metres above sea level on the Tibetan plateau, lies the largest lake in China; Qinghai Hu - also known in Tibetan and Mongolian language as The Blue Lake.
The lake is in particular sacred to the Tibetans inhabiting these remote altitudes, and they see it as their religious call to protect the local environment.
In the first episode of the series Lakes on the Roof of the World,
we travel to hidden islands, where foreigners reportedly never set foot before. We meet the Tibetan nomads, whose traditional lifestyle is challenged by the Chinese government; the Buddhist nuns of the secluded Lotus Monastery; and a 'Dragon's head lute' player passing on his ancient musical heritage.

From the series Lakes on the Roof of the World.

TRACKS publishes unique, unexpected and untold stories from across the world every week.

In The Land Of The Holy Monks (Tibet) Vacation Travel Video Guide

Travel video about destination the highlands of Tibet in the Himalayas.
Surrounded by the Himalayas, the highest mountains in the world, lies a hidden treasure, the highlands of Tibet, one of the most fascinating regions on Earth. In Lhasa, the capital of Tibet that is also known as ‘city of the gods’, religion plays a special role in the lives of its population and hordes of pilgrims pack themselves into the sacred route that leads around the Jokhang Temple, Lhasa’s most important sacred building. The origin of the most famous building in Lhasa is the Potala Palace that dates back to the time of Songtsen Gampo in 637 A.D. It became known worldwide mainly due to its function as having been the former seat of government of Tibet and as the official residence of the Dalai Lama. Drepung was once the richest monastery in Tibet as can be seen by the abundant furnishings of the monastery, despite the dramatic events of the more recent past. In contrast with many other Tibetan monasteries this holy district suffered little destruction and the Cultural Revolution that was forced upon Tibet by China only brought about a temporary lull in the life of the monastery. One of the biggest and most important monuments of Tibet’s sacred architecture is the amazing Kumbum Chorten, a three-dimensional mandala that can be entered. After the ritual journey through Kumbum Chorten the route symbolically passes through the entire Buddhist path of deliverance to as far as Nirvana. Tibet, the ‘land of holy monks’ on the roof of the world has a truly unique atmosphere and is most certainly a land that breathes original beauty and remarkable monastery culture.

We finish the video with an interview with Lamu's grandfather who is 90 years old now. He discusses his experiences 75 years ago.

Tibetan mummy of Spiti - Himalayan monk mystery!

During the Kalchakra of 2000, we took a side trip to Gue to film the famous Tibetan Mummy which we had just earlier filmed for 'The Mystery of the Tibetan Mummy' film.

See our video from the year 2018 here: The setting in the temple has been changed and now a glass case has been created for the mummy.

The leatherised and dessicated remains of a 15th-century Buddhist monk named Sangha Tenzin were discovered in 1975 when the stupa or Buddhist temple that housed him collapsed during an earthquake.

This Buddhist mummy was examined in the British film 'The Mystery of the Tibetan Mummy' which was provided ground logistics and production support by Wilderness Films India Ltd.. The film carried research by Professor Victor H Mair of the University of Pennsylvania’s Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology.

The Buddhist monk remains remarkably preserved as he started the mummification process while still alive.

The mummy of Sangha Tenzin is now on display in a temple in Gue, two miles from where itwas found, in the Spiti area of Himachal Pradesh state. Controlled by the Indo-Tibetan Border Police, the town's only claim to fame is this mummy itself.

Giu or Ghuen / Gyu is a small village, with fewer than 70 houses, situated at a height of around 10,000 feet between Sumdo and Tabo, some 40 km. from the 1,000-year-old Tabo Monastery.

Fondly called as Mummy Lama by the villagers, the monk once belonged to the Gelugpa / Gelugapa order. Carbon dating has confirmed the Tibetan mummy to date back to 1475, making it over 500 years old. The Mummy was found in a sitting position with a rosary in one hand, and all parts of the body just as they were. An unusual '‘Gomthak’ belt runs down the spine, from the neck to the lower parts of the body. This suggests that the monk was a practitioner of “Zogchen”, the highest form of meditation.

The naturally preserved dead body completely dried up and the eyes, teeth and hair on its head still intact inside of wooden box and water is also offered. It was inside the Buddhist monastery as there is present of prayer flag.

The Spiti Valley is a cold desert mountain valley located high in the Himalaya mountains in the north-eastern part of the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. Small remote village of Spiti called Giu 500-year-old mummy resides there. The remains of a 15th-century Buddhist monk named Sangha Tenzin. He was discovered in 1975 when the stupa that was housing him collapsed during an earthquake. Since then, the body has shown little deterioration, despite being exposed to the elements and having no artificial preservation.

China Exploration & Research Society 2011 Expedition - Unravel Travel TV

In 2011 the focus of the China Exploration & Research Society (CERS) summer expedition was to reach the Salween River source, a geographic undertaking that has evaded geographers and scientists for decades. Despite immense difficulties and setbacks, including a sudden and bitter snow storm at the height of summer, the CERS team reached the source on 14 June 2011.

CERS' latest wildlife projects include researching the Tibetan Antelope calving ground at the Arjin Mountain Nature Reserve, an extremely remote region of Xinjiang, fringing upon the Tibetan plateau, as well as the rare and exotic breeds of; the Asiatic Beaver, Wild Yak, Black-necked Crane and Musk Deer.

The CERS' caving teams were also recently featured on a CCTV 10 Beijing, a major state television science channel, for discovering of a new species of cave-dwelling blind fish and there are plans for four further caving expeditions in 2012.

Cultural preservation is another focus for CERS and the teams have preserved 15 traditional thatch-roofed houses of the Li minority people of Hainan Island in southern China, in support of the Lisu Hill Tribe community, as well as successfully saving one of the world's last remaining timber courtyard houses of the Lisu hunting/collecting tribe of remote Yunnan Province in southwest China. Their future plans will include beekeeping research, a pressing issue worldwide.

Wong How Man, Founder of CERS and world-renowned explorer said; CERS take on multiple expeditions and projects throughout the year with a large, diverse team from around the world. For our explorers and scientists, Land Rover not only provides a means of transportation through some of the most difficult and inhospitable terrains on this planet, but also act as an essential shelter in the world's most extreme weather conditions along the way.

Bob Grace, President JLR China added; We are proud of Land Rover's achievements in preservation of fragile environments and endangered wildlife around the globe. In China, we are glad to work with China Exploration and Research Society to bring our philosophy in sustainability to the local community. For the future, we will continue to expand the scope of our care for nature and continuously reinforce the commitment to making our environment better.

Together with Land Rover, the partnership with China's 'greatest living explorer' and fellow of the Royal Geographical Society - Wong How Man, has expanded his exploration work to conservation of some of China's most endangered natural and cultural heritage. Wong famously led CERS expeditions that pinpointed the sources of the Yangtze (2005), the Mekong (2007) and the Yellow River (2008).

Tibetan Everest, a woman without oxygen.

This video concerns the ascent of the north face of Everest without oxygen, stopped at 8500m.
It's an excerpt from a movie 66 minutes Tibetan Altitudes which recounts fifteen years of adventure in the Himalayas. Directed by myself from images that I brought during my expeditions to the highest peaks of the world.

Depuis le dernier camp le sommet se fait par une pente inclinée entre 30 et 40°.
Un camp 4 vers 7400 m est possible mais l'endroit est très venté et très froid.
Enfin le Shishapangma peut se faire à skis.
