The Egyptian Museum in Cairo; Ancient Egyptian Antiquities

The Egyptian Museum, Cairo, Egypt. Egypt travel attractions and destinations to reveal with us.

Traveling to Egypt is all about visiting the museums, the Pyramids, the old places, as well as getting the chance to walk through the streets, eat the Egyptian food, enjoy a day by the Nile, and at the same time give yourself the chance to get introduced to the nightlife of this city.

From the most famous Egyptian touristic attractions, the Egyptian Museum is on top of the list, through which you will see the historical Pharaonic pieces. The Egyptian Museum is in Tahrir square, which is considered the middle of the city, Cairo, and thus you will not just enjoy watching the old gems, but will also get the chance to see the old Egypt.

The Egyptian museum is famously called the Museum of Egypt المتحف المصري and it carries a good amount of Egyptian ancient antiquities, about 120,000 items; some of them are already on display while others are kept in store rooms.

This is a must see and visit place during the trip to Egypt because there are different stories to hear inside about the Gods and Goddesses of ancient Egyptian civilization. You might even love the stories that you just wish you could visit the place once again and go through the same things millions of times.

The most important thing about the Egyptian museum in Cairo is to never miss the hall of the mummies in order to see the superior quality of the life that the ancient Egyptians used to live and have an evidence for that.

The moment you enter the Egyptian museum, you will feel that you have been taken and transformed to the old age due to the sculptures that are found inside and the different things you will get the chance to see.

A lot of Egyptian artwork and Egyptian artifacts to come across in this place. We recommend that you either get a trustworthy tour guide who could help you with knowing more about the place and getting the chance to reveal all the stories, or else bring yourself a book or an article from the internet that will help you to know as much as possible, but never wander the place just watching; read everything that is written there.

There are audio guides which you could buy from the kiosk in front of the foyer for 20 EGP and which will be very useful as your guide inside.

There's great history behind this place, not just the Egyptian artifacts, but the mummies, the masks, and actually everything about this place shows how the Egyptians were so good when it came to living like real kings and queens.

We recommend that you take your water with you because it is a little bit hot inside and you might find nowhere to bring yourself water inside during the journey. We also recommend that you take something that will tell you more about the artifacts there because some don't have label and you might find yourself standing in front of something you know nothing about.

Egypt history is like no other place in the world, this country of peace carries a lot to tell the world and the Egyptian museum is where the story starts. The grand Egyptian museum will tell you about the 7 thousand years of history that this country carried and that is the reason why it is considered one of the most important museums to visit in the world.

The Egyptian museum working hours are everyday from 9 AM until 7 PM. The Egyptian museum entrance fee differ according to what you are going to see inside; general admission is for 30 EGP for non-Egyptians, the royal mummies room is for 100 EGP, the centennial gallery for 10 EGP, and all these are reduced by half if you are a student.

Cameras are not allowed inside the place and you will be checked for that by the gates, so you will never get the chance to take photos inside and keep the memory of seeing those artifacts with you. You could only take photos from the outside to prove that you have been there and visited this important museum of Egypt.

This place is so famous, you will be able to reach it by taxi, by the metro, or even by the other transportation tools - but we don't recommend any other way than these two.

The Nile is only five minutes walk away from the Egyptian Museum so you could go for a walk there after you get done with your trip in the museum. There are different things to do in Egypt in general and a lot of things to see, so always plan to see as much as your stay allows you to.

When you visit Egypt, you should plan to visit Muhammad Ali Mosque

You should also visit The National Museum of Egypt

You should give yourself the chance to go to a tour through the Pharaonic Village

And even go to Al Moez street

Uncovering lost Egyptian city 'the most important discovery' since King Tut's tomb

Archaeologists have found the largest ancient city ever discovered in Egypt, dating back more than 3000 years, just prior to the reign of the most famous pharoah, Tutankhamun. Dubbed 'The Rise of Aten', the city was found during excavation works near the southern city of Luxor.

How was the Unfinished Obelisk really made? ????

This is the unfinished Obelisk of Aswan.
According to Egyptology, it has been carved using Dolorite stones.
This explanation does not convince us.
There are some Dolerite statues which are absolutely flawless and we never heard a credible explanation how they were carved.

HOW?

???? Join us on one of our upcoming expeditions to Egypt or Peru, find all of the info here:

This is one of the rose-granite unfinished obelisks lying in the Aswan Quarry. The scoop marks are almost 1 meter wide on both sides & red vertical lines can be seen on the quarry walls leading down into the scoops. Guide of Egypt believes this may be a sign of excessive heat, possibly due an ultra-sonic cutting tool. Did the ancient architects have the ability to soften granite like marshmallow? Did they use a tool that could scoop out granite like ice cream? According to the archaeological record, the dynastic Egyptians (3000 BC) possessed only copper/ iron chisels & hammers which rank between 3-4 on the “Mohs scale of hardness.” How could they have drone this to rose granite that is much harder, ranking between 7-8 on the same scale? Did the dynastic Egyptians posses lost tech that we are unaware of, or did an earlier megalithic civilization do this?

Unbelievable UNDERGROUND STRUCTURE at Saqqara: The SOUTHERN TOMB

Situated in the southwestern corner of the King Djoser funeral complex, the South tomb allegedly dates back to the Old Kingdom period, specifically the 3rd Dynasty. It was originally named the Southern Tomb after its discovery in 1928 by the English archaeologist Cecil Malaby Firth.

The tomb is characterized by an upper level designed as a rectangular stone building. Its walls are adorned with a series of stone sockets resembling entrances and exits, topped with a frieze of cobra heads symbolizing protection and power.

Below the upper level lies the lower level of the tomb, which features an entrance leading to a ramp and ultimately to the burial chamber. The chamber is located at the bottom of a large shaft measuring 7.5 x 7.5 meters, with a depth of approximately 31 meters. It contains a sizable sarcophagus made of 16 blocks of pink granite, each measuring around 3.60 meters in height, 3.5 meters in width, and 3.6 meters in length. Notably, the shaft and sarcophagus exhibit similarities to those found within the step pyramid.

One of the significant architectural and decorative elements of the Southern Tomb is a series of corridors, with one of them housing three false doors adorned with exquisite reliefs depicting the king participating in the Heb-Sed Festival. This festival, a crucial royal jubilee, aimed to rejuvenate the king and reaffirm his right to rule. The reliefs portray the king wearing the royal beard and the White Crown of Upper Egypt. Additionally, several walls in the tomb's corridors are adorned with the same blue faience tiles found in the step pyramid.

Various theories have been proposed regarding the purpose of this tomb, including suggestions that it belonged to the king's royal wife or that it was built to house the king's internal organs such as the lungs, stomach, intestines, and liver.

The renowned French Egyptologist Jean-Philippe Lauer conducted numerous significant excavations at Saqqara, including the restoration and reconstruction of Djoser's Step Pyramid Complex spanning over 70 years. Lauer believed that the South Tomb served as a symbolic burial for the king's soul, replacing the royal tomb in Abydos, located in the Sohag governorate.

Restoration work on the South Tomb commenced in 2006. It involved the conservation and restoration of the lower corridors, strengthening of the walls and ceilings, restoration of the blue faience tiles to complete the interior inscriptions, and the reassembly and restoration of the granite sarcophagus. Additionally, the project included the paving of floors, installation of a ladder, and indoor and outdoor lighting installations, providing visitors with an enhanced and enjoyable experience.

Giza Plateau: The Joints Between The GRANITE BLOCKS are NOT VISIBLE

This is the valley temple of Khafre next to the sphinx at the Giza Plateau.
The joints between the huge granite blocks are so precise that they are barely visible, for the human eye. How did the ancient stone masons achieve this unbelievable level of precision?
And how did they transport these Giant granite Blocks from Aswan to Giza?

Dynasties of Ancient Egypt

Interview with Dr. Bahaa Gaber | ARCE Annual Meeting 2022 #shorts

Dr. Bahaa Gaber, Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities
The Excavation of the Lost Tombs in Dra Abu el-Naga Necropolis, West of Luxor

During the last century, the site of the Dra Abu el-Naga necropolis (North) was not inhabited by villagers because of the irregular slopes and heights of the rocks in this area. This resulted in the preservation of the tombs at the site. On April 2018 the Egyptian Mission (DP2017) was cleaning an area from debris and discovered Tomb Kamp 157 (about 400³ m of rubble covered the court and the entrance of the tomb). The owner of the tomb was the Magistrate, Userhat (the city councilor) and his wife was the Lady of the House, Merit.

Serapeum: 100 Ton Precision Crafted Boxes

????Join me May 17-28, 2023 for the Megalithic Marvels of Egypt Tour

Located in the area known as Saqqara, the Serapeum is one of the most enigmatic ancient sites in all of Egypt. this labyrinth was discovered in 1850 which hides 25 granite black boxes crafted with laser like precision. Each box weighs approximately 70 tons along with a lid of 30 tons cut from the same piece of stone. Each box was found empty and thus their purpose remains a mystery. It is estimated that these 100 ton stone boxes would need at least 2000 men to transport them. However, with the tunnels being only 2 feet wider than the boxes themselves, how would there have been enough space inside for such a vast army to lower and transport these boxes? The stone was quarried in Aswan about 500 miles away. The official statement from Egyptologists is that these boxes were made during the late dynastic period as burial places for sacred bulls, but how would they have been able to precision craft these granite boxes (ranking 7-8 on Mohs scale of hardness) with their softer copper & iron chisels & hammers (ranking 3-4 on Mohs scale of hardness)? The hieroglyphic carvings found on the outside of 3 of the boxes seem to have been added at a later date as they do not match the precision of the boxes themselves, but appear more crude, & almost to have been scratched into the surface.
