The Best Megalodon Tooth Hunting Site I Ever Found

I don't throw around the word best especially when it comes to hunting megalodon teeth because there have been so many good spots during my 30+ years of collecting, but I feel confident in using it here. I can't believe how lucky I got finding this spot. It was completely untouched and the bottom of the dig was just at the top of the fossil bearing formation. That meant all I had to do was look down in some spots to find teeth, and in the rest, I only had to dig off a foot or two of overburden. There were bones everywhere which is the tell-tale indicator of megalodon and other fossil shark teeth. It didn't take long to dig one out, then another, and another. Then when I walked on the piles after heavy rain there were more big teeth. All together I was able to collect this site for about a week and I found 17 complete megalodon teeth in that short amount of time. I'm not planning on retiring anytime soon, but it is going to be very difficult to top this spot. Summerville, I love you!

Shark Tooth Hill Fossil Hunting Bakersfield CA Ernst Quarries

This video is of my recent fossil hunting trip to Bakersfield California to Shark Tooth Hill. We dug for 5 days and found so many flawless mako shark teeth that we were all quite surprised. We mainly found teeth of the hooked Mako, Isurus planus, and teeth of the broad toothed Mako, Isurus hastalis. Thanks to Rob for allowing us to come out and hunt! Big Shark Tooth Bonanza - First Fossil Hunt of 2015

I just had to get out of the house. It didn't even matter if I found anything. I saw a place where they were clearing land in an area where I had found fossils before so I went for a stroll. It just rained hard the other day so I knew there would be a chance for arrowheads at least. Any, I walked a field and didn't any but I saw an excavator back in the woods so I walked to it. Lo and behold, it was sitting at the edge of a giant hole. I walked on the fresh spoil but it hadn't washed enough so I decided to save it for a later time. I started walking on some material they had spread out and found telltale signs of fossils, namely phosphate and bone. This stuff even had some shells in it, and that's the best stuff ever so I got really excited. I found a megalodon tooth pretty soon after, then another, and another, and another. Sprinkled around were makos, sand tigers. It ended up getting dark before I finished hunting, but at the end of the day I had a sweet 4 5/8 inch megalodon tooth and piles of other great stuff. Man it felt good to get out there and collect again! Next time I won't let it go so long.

Our Best Great White Shark Tooth and Arrowhead Hunting Spot So Far

Fossildiva and I have been crushing it at our favorite creek - the best great white shark teeth and arrowhead spot (except for scuba spots) we know! Its so hard to find good spots any more that when we get a good one we really put the pedal to the metal and give it all we have. This spot has produced awesome fossil shark teeth from great white sharks, bull sharks, sand tigers, mako sharks, modern tiger sharks, and now even an ultra-rare cow shark tooth (for the lowcountry of South Carolina, anyway). Add on top of that super arrowheads, tools, spears, and other native american artifacts and you have a recipe for greatness.

A Handful of 30 Million Year Old Fossil Whale Teeth

We found a pond with really good Chandler Bridge formation exposed. We found the usual assortment of nice shark teeth but this spot had quite a few fossil whale teeth, too. Always fun to find find those - it was a period of time where whales were evolving rapidly so there is a lot to be learned from intact skulls. Unfortunately I didn't find a skull this time around, but there were enough teeth to make me think there was one somewhere!

Fossilized Shark Teeth Hunting Pt 3 (final pt) - near Andalusia Alabama

Final part of our hunting trip for fossilized shark teeth in Alabama. At the end of the video we show all of the shark's teeth that were found. In case you are not familiar with shark teeth hunting, these teeth are fossils. It is very rare to find a fresh shark tooth on the beach. It is possible and if you found a fresh one it would be white. The black teeth are fossils that have absorbed the sediment around them for hundreds of years and that is why they are shades of brown and black. The sediment replaces the enamel and the tooth becomes a fossil.

Digging for Megalodon Teeth

Digging for Megalodon teeth will never get old. The joy of being outside, the company of loved ones, the dig workout, and the thrill of discovery... Those are the things that get in the blood, burrow in deep like a tick and stick around for a lifetime. We are lucky enough to be the first ones to ever see our discoveries, having been buried well before mankind ever even was. Finding a megalodon tooth is feeling of accomplishment and awe for me. Its so difficult to find a good one that each giant tooth is special. I remember where I found every one, who was with me, and more. I remember having the flu bad one time, and it was barely above freezing, windy, and raining outside and I couldn't make myself stay home. I had to go out and collect, and I still remember what I found that day. Good times. I have a soft spot for particular collecting location because I have been there so many times over the years and made so many incredible fossil finds: multiple species of sharks teeth including megalodon, angustidens, great white, mako, benedeni, tiger, sand tigers, lemon. Whale teeth and bones, all kinds of ice age fossils. Yes, its been a great fossil hunting spot. Thanks for going on all these megalodon digging trips with me!

Fossil Hunting around the Chesapeake Bay Area - Fossil Bones and Shark Teeth

Check out the full trip report at:
Fossil hunting trip to the Chesapeake Bay Area - Calvert Formation. This was right after a tropical storm hit in the fall. The waves were crashing, the water was high. Not many shark teeth were found (No megalodon teeth), but I found some nice cetacean bones!

Bringing in the Summerville Shark Tooth Harvest

When you're a fossil hunter like me, there's nothing better than walking a pile of gooey mud after a heavy rain. That's the best opportunity to find prehistoric shark teeth, my primary target. This spot was particularly rewarding with quite a few fossils exposed after a full night long deluge. It is so awesome to me to be able to pick up these pieces of history right where I live. This is such a great hobby!

Fossilized Shark Teeth Hunting Near Andalusia Alabama - Part 1

This is the first video of a 3 part video series of shark teeth hunting near Andalusia Alabama. This is on public property but I won't give the exact coordinates of the location because local fisherman asked us not to. If you are interested in shark teeth hunting, you can do some internet research and find numerous public spots to hunt on. My personal favorite spot is Vilano Beach near St. Augustine, Florida.

Blizzard Fossils and Ditch Starbucks

Ok, so maybe it wasn't a blizzard but by South Carolina standards it was about as close as it gets. Regardless, it was really cold and we braved it to see what treasures our favorite creek held. Turns out it was a great plan! In addition to the assortment of fossil shark teeth, I ended up finding the nicest tapir jaw I ever found and fossildiva got a chance to demonstrate how fabulous she could be after crawling out from under a stump.
