Hotel Atlantis - Once a magnificent place. Today: Deserted. Only plants are living among these walls. One hundred years ago this site was a place of luxury. Even a king came here to see the grand hotel. But in the course of time the glory faded. On our hunt for the beauty of decay we travelled to this history-charged building. It's a fact that this time capsule has a long history and that it’s over a hundred years old but it's hard to find any more information. In the 1940s, there was a major fire inside the building and several floors were destroyed. Shortly after that the hotel was confiscated by the Nazi regime and used as a maternity hospital. After World War 2 this site was confiscated again – this time by the British occupying troops. Due to the massive number of refugees the total population of the village tripled – a lot of them were accommodated in the hotel. But here our chronicle is ending. We couldn’t find out why this place was abandoned – you can only speculate. Maybe the hotel was too far off the beaten track. But as it seems this place was still in use around ten years ago.

In the course of documenting the decay of human civilization we came across this abandoned clothing factory. If we hadn’t seen the interior with our own eyes we wouldn’t have believed that something like this is even possible. Floor by floor we ascended this tremendous building. And we couldn’t stop being astonished. We already knew that this place is unique but what we discovered here exceeded our wildest expectations. It was like people simply forgot that this factory even existed.

Back in the days, when this site was still active, it had a lot to offer. The building was used as a hotel and leisure center and was part of the camping site which is right next door. You can find a bar with a restaurant here, a spacious spa area, the guestrooms of course and the eponymic gym. “Hotel Muscle Club” – that’s the name the urbex community gave to this place.

No records in the history books, not mentioned in any newspaper: This bonus episode takes place in the outskirts of a spa town somewhere in Germany. The farmyard of the building we were visiting this time has become overgrown. It was the house of a gardener who used to live and work here. In this arboretum he was growing trees and bushes. But without any nursing the garden started to run wild and became an impenetrable thicket. But how did it come to this? Why did the gardener abandon his home? The answer to that is waiting inside...

Nestled on a hillside hidden behind trees this abandoned hotel can be easily missed. The building is composed of an older and a newer part as well as spa area. According to our information the site has been abandoned since 2003. The real highlight of this place is a small house right next to the hotel. It looks like a home but probably was some kind of guesthouse. While the ground floor looked some kind of emptied out the other floors were full of vintage furniture and belongings which were left behind. The visit felt a bit like a time travel back to the 80’s.

This time it drove us to the heart of Germany. We've heard of a traditional firm that was abandoned after 200 years of production. In the past, porcelain was manufactured in there. According to rumors all the factory halls are supposed to be full of the so-called white gold. And in fact, we couldn’t believe what we found inside. From casting mold to the finished tableware everything was left behind!

Surrounded by many people this former magnificent building is growing lonely downtown. This place is an unusual example for postmodern architecture and unique in whole Eastern Germany. A community center of superlatives has been developed under the ground many years ago. Citizens met here for bowling and other leisure activities and they finally had a shining counterpoint against dreariness and decay. Built during the time of the former German Democratic Republic this house was considered to be a sudden desire for change but over the last few years it slid into obscurity. Today the area is rotting away. So it’s up to urban explorers like us to bear this symbol for secret resistance in remembrance.

It’s already been abandoned for over 20 years: The old wastewater treatment plant of a small German town. It was also the former water-processing unit of a huge power station and the big tanks in the outside area of the plant are silent witnesses of the old industry. Where thousands of liters of water had flown through the pumping system in the past, now dominates complete silence. In the halls of the building complex everything was left behind. Unfortunately most of the equipment was destroyed or stolen by now but the whole place is still a sight to see. Join us for a glimpse behind the scenes of this impressive plant!

Today we're exploring an abandoned compound with a tradition of more than 100 years. In this former medicine factory somewhere in Germany a universal remedy was fabricated that is known in the whole world till today. Which started as a negligible production in a small shed became a big chemical concern in a minimum of time. In the 1950s, the German State Railroad Company started to produce the first catastrophe trains. Officially they were planned as emergency trains during natural disasters. But this civil protection was only a disguise. Off the record those vehicles should serve as ambulance trains for the USSR and the GDR’s National People's Army. Allegedly those trains were only in transit during night hours to prevent possible espionage activities. In case of a nuclear war those vehicles would have been called into action as some kind of first care. Fortunately, the deployment of the trains didn’t become necessary.

“An ugly concrete block.” This is what this former church is being called. And yet it is really interesting. Simply because this place is so distinctive from other sacral buildings. These photos were shot around a month before our exploration of the site. But also only a few weeks before an arsonist caused a fire brigade operation at the former house of God. In the hope that the flames didn’t destroy everything, we travelled to this unusual church this summer.

Europe’s restricted zones are our favorite holiday destinations. As dark tourists, this time the thrill of the forbidden was taking us to off-limit parts in and around Hungary. On a five-day road trip, we camped at secluded areas at night to bring undisclosed locations to light at sunrise. From vehicle graveyards as we have never seen them before to historical power plants protected by security, we have infiltrated some of the most fascinating abandoned sites you can imagine. In our new series completely shot in 4k, we’re documenting decay and experience history first-hand in a quality better than ever. In today’s episode, we are exploring a widely branched network of cellars located deep under a major city. These vaults are the last remaining sections of a historic market hall which was built in the 19th century and demolished some decades ago. Only a few meters above this relict of former times people are going on with their daily routines, having no idea what spectacular views are down here. In some cases multiple-centimeter-thick and many meters long roots extend across the underground. Until this day we hadn’t set eyes on something like this!
