In our visit to Sri Lanka, we visited another important place in Ramayana, known as Ashok Vatika, and in Sri Lanka, it is Famous as Seetha Amman Kovil or Temple. This is the place where Ravana kept Mata Sita, In Ramayana, it is termed as the most beautiful place in Sri Lanka, The Ashok Vatika. In Seetha Amman Temple we could see Lord Hamnuman's Giant feet and a temple where Sita mata spent her time waiting for Sri Ram.
Visiting these places is a surreal experience as we have read about them and have seen them in Ramayana and when you see these places for real it gives you a feeling that is hard to express in words. During our trip to Nuwara Eliya, we went to Ashok Vatika and Sita Amman Temple and explored some of the best Things To Do in Nuwara Eliya. We explored some amazing veg food, Gregory Lake, tea gardens, Nuwara Eliya Post office, and the market of Nuwara Eliya.

Seetha Amman temple is a place not to be missed if one is traveling to Sri Lanka. This temple is located near the beautiful hill station of Nuwara Eliya. It is believed to be the place where Seeta Devi of Ramayana was held captive. There is a forest right behind the temple known as Ashok Vanam or Ashok Vatika where Devi Seeta was held captive. There are also some huge impressions on the rocks behind the temple which are believed to be lord Hanuman's footprints when he was able to find her location. The temple has a shrine where one can find idols of lord Ram, Seeta, Laxman and Hanuman and regular worship is performed over here. There are multiple paintings on the walls of the temple depicting scenes from the Ramayana. There is a written engraving on the entrance as SHRIRAMJAYAN which means victory to lord Ram. We then visited one of the widest and beautiful waterfalls of Srilanka known as the Ravana waterfall located at Ella which is a drive of around one hour from Nuwara Eliya. The entire region of Nuwara Eliya and Ella look stunning with lush green misty mountains and tea plantations scattered throughout.

In this video, I have shared my third day of amazing experience of Ashok Vatika Sri Lanka.Ashok Vatika was a garden in Lanka that was located in the kingdom of the Rakshasa king Ravana, as mentioned in the Vishnu Purana and the Hindu epic Ramayana of Valmiki, and all subsequent versions, including the Ramacharitamanas written by Tulsidas, where it finds mention in the Sundar Kand.
It was the location where Sita, the wife of Rama, was held captive by Ravana after her abduction, also because she refused to stay in Ravana's palace and preferred to stay under shimshapa tree in Ashoka Vatika.It was here that Ravana's wife Mandodari came to meet her and also where Hanuman met her for the first time, and identified himself with the finger ring of Rama.
Sita stayed at Ashokat Vatika until the end of the epic battle between Rama and Ravana, which resulted in the destruction of Ravana himself and most of this clan. Much of the Ashoka Vatika was destroyed by Hanuman when he first visited Lanka searching for Sita. Also destroyed was the Pramda Van at the centre of the Ashok Vatika
Its present location is believed to be the Hakgala Botanical Garden, in the area known as Seetha Eliya, close to the resort city of Nuwara Eliya. The garden is situated at the base of the Hakgala Rock forms, has Sita Pokuna, a barren area atop the Hakgala Rock Jungle, where Sita was supposedly held captive; the Sita Amman Temple is located here. Another connected site is a spot where Sita bathed in a stream at Sita Eliya, called Sita Jharna

Ashok Vatika Is situated near the Hakgala Botanical Garden, close to the Resort City of Nuwara Eliya. This area is prominently known as Seetha Eliya. At Sita Amman temple there are foot prints of a Giant, which is assumed to be of Hanuman's that are even visible today.
