ACCRA - GHANA TOUR: First World Country? Gold, Cocoa and Oil will change everything

Accra is the capital city of Ghana, located on the country's southern coast. The city has a rich history, dating back to the 15th century when it was an important trading center for the Ga people. Today, Accra is a vibrant and bustling city with a growing tourism industry. Some popular tourist destinations in Accra include the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park, the National Museum of Ghana, and the Labadi Beach.

Accra has a diverse range of architectural styles, reflecting its history as a British colony and its rapid growth as a modern African city. The city's skyline is dominated by tall buildings and skyscrapers, such as the 28-story World Trade Center Accra, which is the city's tallest building. There are also many colonial-era buildings in the Jamestown district, which was the city's original center.
Take a walking / flyover tour of Accra, with the best beaches, monumental buildings, traditional markets, lively nightlife and the capital of Ghana.

The city experiences a tropical savanna climate with two main seasons. The wet season runs from April to October, with heavy rainfall and temperatures averaging around 25-28 degrees Celsius or 77-82 degrees Fahrenheit. The dry season runs from November to March, with little to no rainfall and temperatures averaging around 28-32 degrees Celsius or 82-90 degrees Fahrenheit.

Accra is the largest city in Ghana and one of the largest cities in West Africa. According to the United Nations, the estimated population of Accra was approximately 3 million people as of 2020. The city has a diverse population with people from many ethnic groups, including Akan, Ga, Ewe, and Hausa, as well as migrants from other West African countries and beyond.

Accra has a rich and diverse cuisine influenced by its location on the coast and its position as a cultural hub in West Africa. Seafood is a prominent feature in many dishes, with grilled tilapia and red snapper being popular choices. The city is also known for its street food, which includes dishes such as jollof rice, kelewele (spicy fried plantains), and banku (a fermented corn and cassava dough).

Accra is a major economic center in West Africa and Ghana's largest city. The city's economy is driven by a diverse range of sectors, including agriculture, industry, and services. Accra is particularly known for its service sector, which includes financial services, telecommunications, and tourism. In recent years, the government has made efforts to promote foreign investment and develop the city's infrastructure, including transportation networks and modern office buildings. Despite facing some economic challenges in the past, Accra remains a significant hub for regional trade and commerce.

Interesting places to visit in Accra - Ghana.

Interesting places to visit in Accra. Accra is the capital and largest city of Ghana, located on the southern coast at the Gulf of Guinea, which is part of the Atlantic Ocean. As of 2021 census, the Accra Metropolitan District, 20.4 km2 (7.9 sq mi), had a population of 284,124 inhabitants, and the larger Greater Accra Region, 3,245 km2 (1,253 sq mi), had a population of 5,455,692 inhabitants. In common usage, the name Accra often refers to the territory of the Accra Metropolitan District as it existed before 2008, when it covered 199.4 km2 (77.0 sq mi). This territory has since been split into 13 local government districts: 12 independent municipal districts (total area: 179.0 km2) and the reduced Accra Metropolitan District (20.4 km2), which is the only district within the capital to be granted city status. This territory of 199.4 km2 contained 1,782,150 inhabitants at the 2021 census, and serves as the capital of Ghana, while the district under the jurisdiction of the Accra Metropolitan Assembly proper (20.4 km2) is distinguished from the rest of the capital as the City of Accra.
Formed from the merger of distinct settlements around British Fort James, Dutch Fort Crêvecoeur (Ussher Fort), and Danish Fort Christiansborg as Jamestown, Usshertown, and Christiansborg respectively, Accra served as the capital of the British Gold Coast between 1877 and 1957 and has since transitioned into a modern metropolis. The capital's architecture reflects this history, ranging from 19th-century colonial architecture to modern skyscrapers and apartment blocks.

Here are the lists of things you can do in Accra.

1. Beaches.
There are lots of amazing beaches in Accra to visit for either surfing, swimming, family picnic or for relaxation. Some of these beaches are, the Bojo beach, Kokrobite beach, Labadi pleasure beach, coco beach and laboma beach resort. All beaches can be accessed every day of the week and access to bars, restaurants, swimming pool and hotel accommodations can be found at the listed beaches.

2. The Independence square.
The Independence Arch in Accra, Ghana, is part of the Independence Square which contains monuments to Ghana's independence struggle, including the Independence Arch, Black Star Gate, and the Liberation Day Monument. As of 2011, the Independence Arch is guarded by several soldiers who prohibit people of taking close up pictures of the Arch and asking visitors for official permission, but you are free to take pictures of the area.

The Accra art centre is a place to go and experience pure African art. There you will find things like African musical instruments, bracelets, necklace, paintings, sculptures and other days, you might even witness some of the Ghanaian cultural dance in the premises.

4. Jamestown/ Usshertown
Located directly east of the Korle Lagoon, Jamestown and Usshertown are the oldest districts of Accra, Ghana and emerged as communities around the 17th century British James Fort and Dutch Ussher Fort on the Gulf of Guinea coast. These districts were developed at the end of the 19th century, and following the rapid growth of the city during the 20th century, they became areas of a dense mixture of commercial and residential use.

5. Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum.
The Mausoleum is dedicated to the prominent Ghanaian President Kwame Nkrumah.
