After an incredible 3 years of living, working and travelling in our self converted Sprinter Van we’ve had to make the very tough decision to abandon our tiny home in Africa to take a rescue flight back to Canada. As it has for so, so many of us, this global pandemic has absolutely flipped our world upside down. What went from a virus that seemed far away in China, quickly made it’s way across the globe forcing us to quarantine in our 60 sq-ft in Morocco. And while quarantining was going well for us it became apparent that things would be different for a long while. When our Prime Minister announced that he was sending repatriation flights over to Africa to pick up Canadians who were stuck (due to border closures) we consulted with friends and family closest to us and realized that in this time of crisis we should be back in our home country. The gravity of what we’ve just done hasn’t quite sunk in and we ((especially me (Bec)) are having a really hard time adjusting to our new reality. Having said that we think the most important thing we can all do now is STAY HOME, keep healthy with healing foods & try to look at this as a time that we (and the planet) desperately needed to reset and realign. In fact, we are still processing everything that has happened over the last week and continues to happen... No one knows where we will end up, where our beloved tiny home on wheels will make it or for how long this pandemic will take over life as we know but all we can do is try to remain positive and move forward in the direction that feels right for us. We Rescued Our Abandoned Van from Africa (again)

The first time we abandoned this van was in March of 2020 during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic. We returned at the end of 2021 to find our tiny home parked exactly as we’d left it (much to our surprise!). We began our victory lap through Morocco and flew home for what we thought would be a quick breast surgery… turns out I had stage 3 breast cancer.

FYI We took the ferry from Algeciras to Tangier Med and it cost each campervan 180 euros and took about 1.5 hours. Tangier Med is a relatively new port and is very well maintained which led to a seamless border crossing. To all those making the journey, GOOD LUCK and remember not to bring your drone!

With only 60 sq ft our tiny house on wheels has always amazed us with just how many people we can fit in there! And while our sprinter van has always seemed like plenty of room for the two of us, last week we tested it's capacity with a third human!!! We will all travelled across the country of Morocco (living, traveling, sleeping, cooking & POOPING ???? in 1 van). But things got a little more intense when Morocco went into a state of emergency and closed their borders. We were all STUCK in AFRICA for the foreseeable future and on lock down. The week begins as the news of the severity of pandemic hits us and we need to start thinking critically about our next moves. Things escalate rather quickly…

We're Eamon and Bec, a Canadian couple who lived and traveled full-time in our self converted Sprinter Van for three years!! When the pandemic hit in 2020 we made the difficult decision to abandon our van in Africa and fly home to Canada. We ended up living at a cabin in the Canadian wilderness! But now that restrictions have eased we've made the trip back to Morocco to resume van life in Africa!! It's going to take some time to readjust to tiny living but we are SO excited to be back to van life!

In 2017 we bought our first sprinter van and spent 30 days renovating it into our dream tiny home. The plan was to van life around the world and we'd made it all the way from Canada to Africa. Fast forward to COVID...us abandoning our van in a Moroccan parking lot, flying home to Canada, converting yet another van, and then moving to our cabin in the woods.
We've always envisioned moving into the woods by the lake and building our dream tiny cabin as a home base for us to come back to in between our international van life travels. With our sights set on returning to Morocco, we thought it was time we dust off our van life skills. So, we squeeze 6 people into our sprinter van conversion for 24 hours!

Here it is friends: the new adventure we've been dreaming and saving for since we first met 8 years ago. How Did We Get Here?
Abandoning our Van in Africa
After an incredible 3 years of living, working, and traveling in our self converted Sprinter Van we made the very tough decision to abandon it in Africa to take a rescue flight back to Canada. As it has for all of us this global pandemic has flipped our world upside down. When our Prime Minister announced that he was sending repatriation flights over to Africa to pick up Canadians who were stuck (due to border closures) we consulted with friends and family closest to us and realized that in this time of crisis we should be back in our home country. Halting our dream of driving around the world was a hard pill to swallow which is why we knew we needed a big project to keep our mind + body busy while social distancing back here in Toronto. Enter building an off-grid tiny house on wheels!! But after nearly 6 months, we realized that our dreams of continuing van life across North America in our new van build were not a current reality with the state of the world. So, we've found ourselves pursuing something we've dreamed of since we first got together 8 years ago... a cabin in the woods ????

We're Eamon and Bec, a Toronto-based couple who live full-time in our self converted Sprinter Van!! SUBSCRIBE for wanderlust travel, behind the scenes of what it's really like to live in a van, and videos all about the yummy vegan food we make + eat! VAN LIFE COUPLE.

We're not used to POLICE like this!
Having found what we thought was our ideal wild park up, we were moved on in our campervans by the Moroccan police BUT the result wasn't what we expected...We were WELCOMED to set up camp, in the police station carpark right next to the beach in Sidi Kaouki!
We also paid a quick visit to Imsouane to sort our SIM cards with INWI and had a great time in the Medina before heading away from the coast in search of a new park up and access to Ouzoud Falls.
