Why I love Malaysia Airlines Business Class. It can be summed up in one word and one dish - Satays!
This was my first Malaysia Airlines flight since the pandemic and I was keen to see if they were still the same good old reliable Malaysia Airlines as they have always been - offering great value business class with friendly personalised service. And of course I wanted to reconnect with my favourite dish in the sky - Malaysia Airlines iconic satay service.
Malaysia Airlines has been serving satays in business class for as long as I remember and whilst other airlines may try to copy none of them have ever come close to the deliciousness of the Malaysia Airlines Satay!
This Malaysia Airlines business class review is a full flight review of the entire Malaysia Airlines premium experience from the lounge right through to the onboard experience.

About Batik Air (from Wikipedia):
Batik Air Malaysia (formerly known as Malindo Air) is a Malaysian full service carrier, an associate carrier of Indonesian Lion Air Group, with headquarters in Petaling Jaya, Selangor, Malaysia.The original name Malindo signifies a cooperative pact between Malaysia and Indonesia.
The entry of AirAsia from Malaysia into the home turf of Lion Air has encouraged the Indonesian airline to enter the Malaysian market with a subsidiary airline. AirAsia's subsidiary Indonesia AirAsia, in partnership with its parent firm, attempted to buy Indonesian carrier Batavia Air to gain a foothold in Indonesia, but the deal did not go through due to regulatory complications and Batavia Air ended up going bankrupt. The attempted deal resulted in a turf war between Lion Air, Indonesia's biggest low-cost carrier, and AirAsia, Asia's biggest low-cost carrier.

The Boeing 737 MAX is the fourth generation of the Boeing 737, a narrow-body airliner manufactured by Boeing Commercial Airplanes (BCA), a division of American company Boeing. It succeeds the Boeing 737 Next Generation (NG) and competes with the Airbus A320neo family. The new series was announced on August 30, 2011. It took its maiden flight on January 29, 2016 and was certified by the United States Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in March 2017. The first delivery was a MAX 8 in May 2017 to Malindo Air, with which it commenced service on May 22, 2017.
The 737 MAX is based on earlier 737 designs, with more efficient CFM International LEAP-1B engines, aerodynamic changes, including distinctive split-tip (Scimitar) winglets, and airframe modifications. The 737 MAX series has been offered in four variants, offering 138 to 204 seats in typical two-class configuration, and a range of 3,300 to 3,850 nautical miles (6,110 to 7,130 km). About Lion Air Flight 610 (from Wikipedia):
Lion Air Flight 610 (JT610/LNI610) was a scheduled domestic passenger flight from Soekarno–Hatta International Airport, Jakarta to Depati Amir Airport, Pangkal Pinang in Indonesia. On 29 October 2018, the Boeing 737 MAX operating the route crashed into the Java Sea 13 minutes after takeoff, killing all 189 passengers and crew. It was the first major accident involving the new Boeing 737 MAX series of aircraft, introduced in 2017, and the highest death toll of any accident or incident involving a 737 series aircraft, surpassing Air India Express Flight 812 in 2010. It was the deadliest accident in Lion Air's history, surpassing the 2004 Lion Air Flight 538 that killed 25, and the second deadliest aircraft accident in Indonesia behind Garuda Indonesia Flight 152.
The Indonesian government's search and rescue found debris and human remains soon after from a 280 km (150 nmi) wide area. The first victim was identified two days after the crash. The flight data recorder was found on 1 November and recovered for analysis. One member of the volunteer rescue team died during recovery operations.

[TRIPREPORT] First Flight of the Season! | East Midlands - Corfu | Ryanair 737-800
The very first flight of the 2019 Summer season from East Midlands to Corfu in Greece!
Despite this being the first flight, the passenger load was quite high as we had almost a full aircraft! This is a stark contrast to the return flight to Manchester, which had just 18 passengers!
This was my first time flying from East Midlands - the airport itself was nothing special but it was relatively easy to get to and had this cheap Corfu flight leaving from it!

EXTREME FLIGHT - B737-200 Classic to the Arctic - Landing on Snow/Gravel
I flew with Chrono Aviation B737-200 Classic from Montreal to the Canadian Arctic north to experience the unique flight operation and landing on a snow-covered gravel runway.
Our first stop is Iqaluit at 63 degrees North. Iqaluit is a technical fuel stop. I got to walk around the airplane during the stop, the weather was freezing and bitter cold for me! ( -30 degrees with wind chill)
Our next stop is Mary River at 71 degrees North. Mary River has an iron ore mine operation. The runway is gravel and covered with snow during the winter months. During the flight, the captain explained the unique and challenging flight operations in the high Arctic such as the difference between true north and magnetic north, and the friction index on gravel landing. The Chrono Aviation B737-200 demonstrated strong continuous operation in challenging weather conditions.
Unexpectedly, I was offloaded due to overbooking on the return flight, I stayed behind at the Arctic mine for 12 hours. This was another unique experience. I flew out of Mary River on the next flight that evening.

You are watching one of my Malaysia travel videos, and today I am taking you to Singapore Airlines SilverKris Business Class Lounge at KUL Airport in Malaysia.
I am on my way to Singapore, and will be flying Singapore Airlines Business Class. The Singapore Airlines SilverKris Lounge at Kuala Lumpur Airport was one of the worst lounges I have seen.
The food section was bad with limited snacks and drinks. I only had coffee and snacks.
The restroom was small and didn’t feel like a lounge restroom.
The receptionist was not friendly, which was a contrast with Singapore Airlines’ friendly service.
The best part of the lounge was the nice runway views. I spent my time watching planes landing and taking off.

Oman Air : Jeddah to Muscat | Boeing 737-800 (WY672 | A4O-BAA)
Would I ever recommend Oman Air to anyone? Absolutely NOT!
Flying with Oman Air on one of their more modern Boeing 737-800s from Jeddah to Muscat presented me with yet another first-hand account of the airline's deterioration in terms of service.
I wasn't shocked to learn that the wide-bodied Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner/Airbus A330-200 intended for this route was once again downgraded (as predicted).
The views from the cabin were amazing, which stands in stark contrast to the declining quality of the onboard service over the past few years.
This goes to show why most passengers who decide to fly via. Oman to the Middle East opt to fly with the Sultanates' latest addition to the LCC market-Salam Air (OV/OMS) who, as I hear, offer a far superior overall product and service on offer accompanied with value fares in comparison to WY and is one of the many reasons this flight was at least 70% empty.
