Christmas in Kiribati on our Sailing Catamaran || Abaiang Atoll

Catamaran Anchorage for Christmas Abaiang
A Chilled out Christmas in Kiribati.
Episode 64
This week we explore the crystal clear blue waters on the western side of Abaing atoll in Kiribati. It makes for some amazing Darren-tastic drone shots....
There are uninhabited, coconut tree covered sand islands, a small eco resort and not much else!
After spending a very rolly night at anchor near one of the ocean passes, we seek a bit more shelter in front of Teirio Island Resort. This small eco resort has five local style bungalows, a communal dining area and a great outlook. Derek , the owner, makes us very welcome and introduces us to his only two guests ; Ken and Steve who are visiting from the
UK. We share the same warped sense of humour and get along famously.
We are even invited to join them on a snorkelling trip up to Manra island on the North western side of the atoll.

In the blink of an eye , Christmas Day rolls around. After a kayak session and walk on the beach , we celebrate with a bit of a cook-up. We enjoy a magnificent lentil loaf with all the trimmings, followed by a lovely pineapple upside down cake. With custard obviously ....

Hello and welcome to our channel! We are Jo and Rob and we are here to share our sailing adventures with you.
In 2016, inspired by the likes of ‘Delos’, ‘Sailing La Vagabonde’ and ‘Gone with The Wynns’, we sold up everything we owned and bought our 40ft, Fountaine Pajot ‘Lipari 41 Evo’ sailing catamaran ‘Double Trouble’. We had no sailing experience whatsoever, so the past few years have been a huge learning curve.
We thought it might be fun to document our travels for anyone thinking of following a similar lifestyle.
So far we have visited 7 different countries and sailed over 13,000 nautical miles.
We have had many unique experiences that would not have been possible in our prior life and we don’t regret a second.
We're both super keen on protecting our precious environment, so amongst other things, we both follow a plant based diet. You won't find any fishing footage on this channel!

Rob sadly discovers some unwanted guests in his chickpeas and we check out the local 'airport' for some Friday night fun! We also witness some of the most stunning sunsets we have ever seen ????

KIRIBATI: 3 huge ???? challenges facing this small, friendly nation! (Tarawa Atoll, Central Pacific)

Tarawa Atoll, Kiribati, Pacific Ocean - the 3 major challenges facing Kiribati (Tarawa Atoll) in the Pacific Ocean. Let's go to the Republic of Kiribati (also known as the Tarawa Atoll or the Gilberts islands) and let's take a tour of this rarely visited island nation in the Central Pacific Ocean. Not only we will see some spectacular scenes from Kiribati (the Tarawa Atoll), but, we will examine the 3 huge challenges the nation of Kiribati is facing: Population explosion, garbage and rubbish environmental catastrophe and finally, yes, the rising sea levels.
Kiribati, an island republic in the Central Pacific, comprises 33 coral atolls and isles stretching along the equator. With lagoons and white-sand beaches, many of its islands are uninhabited, offering a remote setting for fishing, diving and bird-watching. The crowded capital, South Tarawa, made up of small islets, retains remnants of WWII battles fought on its shores, and is known for folk dancing and handicrafts.

Ambo Island in Tarawa Atoll, Kiribati

Ambo Island is another spot for sightseeing in Kiribati. The island can be accessed easily from North Tarawa. While facilities are minimal, several accommodations are available in Ambo Island such as the Dreamers Guest Lodge and the Utireri Motel. The blue water that surrounds the island has great potential, it looks inviting. The beach is pure white sand with broken shells. Since the Parliament building is in the Ambo island, the place is one of the prime areas in Kiribati for sightseeing. Among all islands in Kiribati, this could be a potential place to go.

A turquoise lagoon and long stretches of soft sand draw tourists to Ambo Island, ideal for relaxing waterfront walks under the shade of leafy palm trees. Though inviting, it is generally not advisable to swim in the lagoon due to the high levels of water pollution. Instead of swimming, take in the views from the the nearby club, featuring a meeting house and bar.
