WHEN TO VISIT JAPAN (and when NOT to!) ???? seasons, dates, advice | japan travel guide

Watch this to know when to AVOID coming to Japan and when the best times of year are for travel!

After living in Japan for five years, the importance surrounding the contrast of the different seasons has rubbed off on me ???? So now I'm here today to tell you what the best times of year I think are to visit Japan and the ones you ABSOLUTELY should avoid if possible!! There are a lot of holidays not reflected on the calendar so it's very easy for tourists to accidentally come during a bad time of year and as a result their trip isn't as good...don't get me wrong, if your trip happens to be in one of the bad times of year to visit, you will still have a great time, but everything will...require more planning, let's say ????

What do you think? Let me know if there are any more times you'd like to mention down below or let me how your trip to Japan was and what time of year you've visited in if you've come before!!

How to get around Hakodate & Hokkaido?
Hokkaido Rail Pass will cover all the JR railway tickets from one city to another city. Within Hakodate, you can use Suica or Pasmo card for bus & local train. If you purchase JR Rail Pass, it will cover all JR rail from Tokyo to Hokkaido. We didn't get JR Rail Pass but instead fly domestically which is cheaper at that time.

Before going to Japan here is the Japan travel restrictions update Feb 2023:

Hokkaido, Japan's northernmost prefecture, is famous for beautiful wilderness, abundant powder snow, delicious seafood, and popular destination for skiing and snowboarding in winter. Even if you are not skiing or snowboarding, there are still so much things to do, places to visit in Hokkaido region. We recommend 1 or 2 nights in Hakodate and here is all things to do, food you must try, places to visit for your travel itinerary to Hakodate:

1) Eat Chinese Fried Chicken Burger from Lucky Pierott
Do not underestimate this clown burger chain that only can be found in Hakodate because their Chinese fried chicken burger is actually very juicy. We did not expect burger in a small Japanese city in Hokkaido can be delicious but it was quite yummy indeed!

2) Ride the ropeway up to Mt Hakodate to see beautiful city from above. We recommend to start going up during sunset

3) Trying food that is unique or only can be found in Hokkaido
7-Eleven hot food snack, only in Hokkaido region - Saku Saku Roll (Japanese fish cake)

4) Must try freshest seafood at Hakodate Morning Market
Kaisendon bowl is a rice topped with fresh raw seafood like ikura (salmon roe), uni (sea urchin), shrimp, crab, sasihimi etc. Also, don't forget to try squid & snow crab bun from Kaniman Chaya.
Hokkaido is blessed with freshest seafood you will ever taste and there are so many types of crabs: King Crab, Hairy Crab, Hanasaki Crab that are super fresh and so sweet. In Hakodate Morning Market, you can also buy some fruits to try like strawberry and melon. Hokkaido's melon is a MUST try fruit!

5) Shopping and sightseeing at Kanemori Red Brick Warehouse
Commercial warehouse with lots of Japanese craft shops, perfect for shopping. Of course there are some food stalls, dessert and cafe like Starbucks in Hakodate Bay.

6) Eating dessert at a traditional tea shop built in 1900s
Kikuizumi Cafe was built in early 1900 and still maintain the old Japanese traditional house architecture that is now open as tea shop or cafe. Try the tofu shiratama parfait while mesmerizing irori - a sunken hearth in Japanese traditional houses that is rare to see.

7) Must try food: Miso Ramen in Hakodate
Hakodate is the birthplace of miso ramen so obviously you need to try miso ramen while visiting Hakodate. We tried Menchuubo Ajisai near the Goryokaku Tower.

8) Visit Goryokaku Tower and Goryokaku Park
The view of Hakodate from Goryokaku Tower is truly magical especially during winter with winter illumination lights, they are just magnificent.

???????????? Japan 10 Day Itinerary: Tokyo, Osaka, and Kyoto! ???????????? | Travel To Japan 2023

Japan???????? 10 Day Itinerary!
-
If you’re visiting Japan for the first time and need some help on what to visit, I got a quick guide to help you get some ideas!
-
I’ll be doing a 10 part video series highlighting 3 key areas of Japan to visit for your first time here! Tokyo, Osaka, and Kyoto!
-
First off start your visit in Tokyo! This is the best way to main line culture shock into your system!
-
To be specific head to the Shibuya area which is home to many iconic Tokyo sites and delicious restaurants!
-
Eat some ramen! There’s so many to choose from like the famous Ichiran, Ippudo, and many others! We ate Oreryu Shio-Ramen which specializes in a rich creamy broth and fried chicken ramen!
-
Next, walk off the food by seeing the famous Shibuya crossing, located right in front of Shibuya station! Popular in movies and anime’s, this place will really make you feel the electricity of the city! But there’s not much to do other than just take photos and live your Japan fanatic moment.
-
Then head to the near by Mega Don Quixote Store! Don Quixote is a huge chain discount store that sells home goods, skin care products, make up, clothing, gifts, snacks, and about anything you’d want as a souvenir from your Japan trip!
-
Reminder- These are only suggestions and an outline to use so you can plan your own personal experience! Follow it to the T or take from it what you need!
-
One last thing, if you’re arriving from Haneda Airport it’ll take about 1hr to reach the hub of Tokyo via train and if you arrive Narita Airport it’ll be about 1hr 50min. It’s about 30 min by car from Haneda and 1 hr from Narita if you want to pay for a taxi or Uber.
-
Happy travels and see you in day 2!
