3 KEYS TO IMPROVE YOUR FILM PHOTOGRAPHY | #35mm

Whether you've only taken photos on your phone or are a veteran in the photography world, these 3 things are fundamental to all the images that you make.

With busy lives and minds alike it is often so easy to overlook the basics as we focus on having a gorgeous subject, stellar location or amazing edit. But it is these basics that help images stand the aging of time.

This video has been fully written, shot, edited, and sponsored by me.

How to Shoot 35mm Film (Story 1)

Film Camera: Canon A1 with a 50mm f/1.4 Canon lens -- FujiColor Superia 200
Video Camera: Canon 5D3 with a 35mm Summicron F2 (1970) Leica lens

This is our first STORY in our new Snippet/Story style and we are so very excited to share it with you.

This week we tried to weave the beautiful experience of film photography with a bit of a how-to-video with the hopes of inspiring you to get out and capture your environment.

The entire experience of shooting film from choosing your film stock, to manually loading the film, to the sexy sound of winding the film after each photo, well it all just begs you to slow down, to focus on the moment at hand, and take it all in and then... the most important part... to stay present. No checking how the photo turned out, no re-taking the selfie, not even the need to see how many likes it got. Nope, a film camera gives you the luxury of hoping that you captured the moment and letting that be enough.

And while I can go on and on about the lessons that film has already taught me - and this was just my first roll ! - the main thing that making this story taught me is how lucky I am to have a partner as patient and thoughtful as Lou! His work ethic is unlike anyone I have ever met and the passion he pours into creating these beautiful moments each week never ceases to amaze me.

I'm grateful for this week's video for reminding me of time spent: hanging at second hand camera stores, capturing special moments with dear friends, and enjoying perfect moments of summer when you feel surrounded by love.

Film Camera: Canon A-1
Film Stock: Fujicolor Superia 200

I shot this roll of film a few months back when exploring Portugal in our van Ody at a place an hour north of Lisbon called Buddha Eden. Buddha Eden is a peace garden located in Portugal with enormous sculptures of Buddha as well as terracotta soldiers, lakes, and even a pagoda.

This video definitely challenged me during the filming process. I had no idea that our film camera's battery was dying, so I kept having moments where I would try to take a photograph and then when I pressed the shutter wouldn't go. Everything felt like it was moving too fast and I wasn't able to compose the shots I wanted. I think I was also a bit tired from sleeping in the van (broken arm + sleeping bag can be a tricky situation for a proper night's rest). But luckily after a little pep talk from Lou, I realized there was no need to put pressure on myself to take good or even great photos. The whole point of these videos is just to have fun! And that is how the day shifted as we moved into the metro and then I finally felt calm and ready to enjoy the photos however they ended up turning out.

Question of the Week: Do you ever find yourself flustered or wanting to quit in the middle of a project/outing? How do you refocus and move past it, so you actually enjoy the rest of your day? Also, Lou wants me to ask if any of you liked my little joke about youtube thumbnails? But what I think he really wants to know is do you guys watch the videos all the way to the end?? :) :) :)

The Best 35mm Film Camera for Beginners in 2022 (Minolta X-700)

with the rising hobby of film photography, it can be hard to find a camera for beginners since everything's so expensive. hopefully this video can give you a nice look at one of my favourite film cameras, the minolta x-700. the minolta x-700 has a lot to offer, including a wide variety of lenses, aperture priority, and its affordability.

Shooting 35mm Film in Kreuzberg - Film February - Part 3 (Snippet 33)

This is definitely my favorite roll of film of the series yet!! Playing around with double exposures and getting to spend some time with friends made it a really special experience. (My friend Luisa's instagram is @luyanoms - go check out her photos!) I highly recommend anyone watching who has a analog camera to figure out how to take double exposures and start experimenting. I already have so many other ideas swirling in my mind of what I could do with layered textures, with a tripod which would allow for more static shots, or with mixing photos of daytime and nighttime.

If you're like me, it is very easy to remember to take photos when you're traveling. Everything is brand new and you want to remember the trip, but then when you are in your own home, own backyard, own neighborhood (in the case of this video!) well sometimes it doesn't seem like that special of a moment to capture, but that is when we forget how precious the space around us really is. It provides us a vehicle for so many of our experiences. And while travel does create some fantastic memories, so many more of our memories are made closer to home, so I am really happy we were able to shoot a roll in Kreuzberg and capture the neighborhood that we love. This week helped me remember how lovely it is to capture the spaces we find ourselves in most often.

Question of the Week: Have you ever taken double exposures? What two types of images are your favorite to combine? If you haven't what do you think would be a cool idea?

Developing 35mm Color Film at Home: Tetenal Colortec C-41 (Snippet 30)

People have been recommending we start developing film at home for so long and we've heard you in the comments and are so grateful for that extra push to try something new!!

Before we got started, Lou did a lot of research and with the help of great video's like our friend Ed's ( he was able to figure out which supplies we would need to build our little home development station.

We haven't made a film video in a long time as we were a bit frustrated with having to outsource this part of the process and are so happy that we finally got around to figuring out how to own the full process now. It's cheaper, more fun, and you have way more control of the end result. We also put up a blog post with a bunch of the photos from this roll so if you want to see them check out

We're so inspired to get back out into Berlin and start shooting film again, so stay tuned because February we have a fun series coming your way :)

Question of the Week: Last week's video was all about The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle and a few people mentioned that it would be fun to share what books we are reading in the comments, so.... let's start! Right now I'm reading The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle by Haruki Murakami and Lou is reading Aunt Julia and the Scriptwriter by Mario Vargas Llosa. Can't wait to hear what you have on your shelf!

Shooting 35mm Film in New York City (Story 14)

Enter offer code WILDWEROAM at Squarespace.com for 10% off your first purchase, or visit:

On a recent trip back to the States, Lou and I went back to our old neighborhood in New York City to shoot a roll of 35mm film (Portra 400) on our Canon A1. Like I say in the video it had been AGES since I last shot film, and as you watch you will soon learn how things ended up not going as expected. Without ruining the ending all I can say problem solving leaves room for much more creativity than I ever expected!!

The entire point of this video was to combine the importance of remembering to capture your daily life and the magic of writing a blog post. Hope it left you feeling inspired!!

Please check out our blogpost too!! We worked so hard on it and all my film photos and illustrations are there, plus way more stories from our NYC years.

Question of the Week: For those of you who watched until the end of the video, would you have kept drinking your tea too? Or poured it down the drain?

UPDATE: So, according to our local photography store expert, the problem was entirely self-made, we shouldn't have shot on the green automatic setting on the lens while in Aperture Priority mode, that only works for Shutter Priority. Someone in the comments had suggested we do it that way, but we should have done our own research before trying it out! In the end, we were lucky though that some of the photos worked at all, and that we came away with all these watercolors : )

Thank you for watching, for reading, and for joining us here. It means the world to Lou and I to connect with each of you and we're so grateful for your continued support.

Vintage Mystery Box - Film Camera Lot Unboxing - Budapest

I recently bought a large mystery box of vintage cameras, lens and other misc stuff. I paid about $35 for the whole vintage mystery box of photography equipment. Watch the unboxing till the end to see if I lost my pants or made out like a bandit.

I live in Budapest, Hungary so you know there is going to be plenty of old soviet era film cameras, lenses and other vintage camera equipment in the box.

Thanks for watching! Please leave any questions in the comments.

Fun photography projects for the summer

I'm a winter person. I don't like the heat, the bright light, or all the people outside. Among other things. It's also a pretty bad time for photography, at least for my style of photography.

This summer, I decided to experiment with a few projects using different techniques. And I show them in this video, just in case they inspire you to create something new!

Do you have any fun photography project?
