MOST of the reliable guidebooks such as LONELY PLANET, FODORS, and Rick Steves HAVE NOT YET been updated to reflect the current changes and closures that have taken place post-pandemic in 2021 and 2022. Many of the YouTubes vidoes also either do not include all of the closures or do not explain some of the crucial changes that make Istanbul a very different experience from 5 years ago, especially with regards to one of the TOP sights (hint: it's the one you travel across continents to see, but can't fully see anymore!)

IMPORTANT NOTE REGARDING THE BASILICA CISTERN: According to reports, the Basilica Cistern has either re-opened or partially re-opened as of late summer 2022. It has been altered aesthetically on the outside and many have complained about that and the cost and immense crowds. It's not completely clear to me whether or not it is entirely reopened and whether or not it is worth it. I recommend checking out Tripadvisor for recent updates:

After 10 years, I have returned to the country that I enjoyed THE LEAST in all of my travels… Brunei. It’s a tiny country on Borneo island, sandwiched in between Malaysia and Indonesia, and I was very nervous to go back. Why? Because my last video there was all about how much I hated it, and I was so worried that I would be thrown in jail by the government, or even yelled at by the locals…. But this time around, I went in with fresh eyes and a new perspective, and I really enjoyed it!!!
