4K Milford Sound Scenic Drive | Te Anau Downs to Milford Sound, New Zealand
Milford Sound is a fiord with temperate rainforests in Fiordland National Park located in the southwest of the south island, New Zealand.
The drive starts at Te Anau Downs, 33 km north of Te Anau, a gate city to Milford Sound.
As the car goes further into the valleys of Milford Sound, the vegetation gradually changes to a forest with many ferns.
The way in the opposite direction is also scenic. It will be posted sometime later.

Milford Sound is a breathtaking fjord located on the southwest coast of New Zealand's South Island, within Fiordland National Park. It is a popular tourist destination known for its stunning natural beauty, with towering peaks, cascading waterfalls, and pristine waters.
Milford Sound was carved by glaciers during the last ice age, and its steep cliffs rise up to 1,200 meters above the water. The fjord is home to a variety of wildlife, including seals, dolphins, and penguins, as well as numerous bird species such as the kea, New Zealand's native parrot.

Te Anau is a town on the South Island of New Zealand. It’s known as a gateway to Fiordland National Park and Milford Sound. The region is home to endangered, flightless takahē birds and abundant trout in Lake Te Anau. Te Anau Caves feature a limestone grotto of glowworms and an underground waterfall. To the southwest, the Kepler Track winds through beech forests, glacial valleys and mountains.

I travelled the South Island, New Zealand back in August 2019, and its only now (7th April 2021) that I'm finally uploading this video.
Take note, I may look younger in this video as I made the 'talking head' part of the video over a year ago too.
I'm very aware that New Zealand is still a difficult country to enter with its restrictions on entry during the pandemic, but I hope this video will give people planning a trip to New Zealand for the future some ideas.

I drove 3987km's and captured 1337gb of film, I scaled the edges of mountains, hiked through valleys and enjoyed everything Mother Nature had to offer. 3 Months of Van Life in New Zealand - Episode 4
After spending a week exploring Marlborough and Abel Tasman, we begin our journey south towards Wanaka and Queenstown. This episode documents our epic road trip down the South Island's wild West Coast.
As we make our way down the scenic Great Coast Road, we stop at the must-see spots - Punakaiki Pancake Rocks, Franz Josef glacier and Fox glacier - before arriving at the picturesque lake town of Wanaka. There, we embark on the stunning Roy’s Peak Track before heading to Queenstown, where we do two more epic hikes - Ben Lomond and the Lake Alta Track. We finish this episode in Fjordland National Park with a cruise on the incredible Milford Sound.

TOP Must Do Activity in NZ - MILFORD SOUND | South Island, New Zealand Vlog 2/5
Milford Sound is situated on the west coast of the South Island of New Zealand. Breathtaking views of plunging cliffs, towering mountain peaks with dramatic low hanging clouds and magnificent raging waterfalls, it's definitely one of those places you absolutely must visit in New Zealand.
There are a few different ways you can visit and enjoy Milford Sound. We chose to stay in a nearby town called Te Anau. We then drove out the next day to catch a cruise tour of the famous fiord.
For lunch in Te Anau we had a quick bite to eat at a food truck called Bao Now. FYI they also have dumplings on their menu too.

After lunch, we rented some mountain bikes to do a scenic lakeside bike ride. Since we got to Te Anau pretty late from Queenstown, we could only squeeze in a relatively short ride along Te Anau Lake. There are much longer cycling routes you can do though.

We stayed two nights in a lovely, homely Airbnb cottage with very friendly and warm hosts, Kevin & Keiko. They have a beautiful tranquil garden and their place is a super short drive away from Te Anau's town centre.

For our Milford Sound cruise, we decided to go with a small cruise called Mitre Peak Cruises. The boat is smaller than the other cruise ships which means it has less height, but it has the great advantage of getting much closer to some great sights (like right under a waterfall and very close to the rocks where we saw penguins and seals). They also had informative commentary from the skipper and hosts on board making it feel like a more special and personal experience.
We managed to score a sweet deal for our Milford Sound cruise on a booking site that we often use called Bookme:
A few tips when visiting Milford Sound:
1) Fuel up in Te Anau as there aren't any petrol stations along the way to Milford Sound. No mobile phone coverage either.
2) Allow yourself enough time for scenic stop offs on Milford Road and for check-in (otherwise visit the scenic spots on your return drive).
3) Wear insect repellant on any exposed skin as we got bitten a fair bit in the carpark. It was totally fine on the actual cruise itself but when we got out of the car those sand flies and mozzies went to town on our ankles!
4) Wear something warm and rain proof especially if you're wanting to enjoy the waterfall spray which we fully recommend as it's invigorating and fun!
Btw we didn't vlog our dinners in Te Anau, but there's a great Indian restaurant in the town centre (Radha's) and a pretty good Chinese restaurant too (Ming Garden) if you're in need of some Asian food like we were!

New Zealand's MILFORD TRACK The FINEST Walk in the World? ???????? Great Walks of New Zealand
The Milford Track is one of the Great Walks of New Zealand, located amidst mountains and temperate rain forest in Fiordland National Park in the southwest of the South Island. The 53.5 km (33.2 mi) hike starts at Glade Wharf (accessed by water taxi only) at the head of Lake Te Anau and finishes in Milford Sound at Sandfly Point, traversing rainforests, wetlands, and an alpine pass. It has the reputation as the finest walk in the world and offers unparalleled views of remote areas of Fiordland National Park.

Road To Milford Sound New Zealand 2021.
We took a road trip to Milford Sound on our journey and elected to stay in Te Anau for two nights. Driving from Queenstown to Milford Sound takes four hours. Milford Sound is an essential destination in any New Zealand itinerary. Of couse, it is possible to take a Milford Sound day trip from Queenstown however, it is very remote and we made our decision based on driving times.
The drive from Te Anau to Milford Sound is a good two hours each way, on the beautiful Milford Sound Road. On the other hand, the drive from Queenstown to Milford Sound is four hours each way…
We love driving in New Zealand so we elected to hit the road and drive ourselves to meet our Milford Sound tour. We found driving on New Zealand roads quite easy, even narrow ones near Akaroa, on the Banks Peninsula. We really enjoyed this drive but I can share some alternatives as I learned a lot through this experience.

New Zealand Scenic Drive from Te Anau to Milford Sound,South Island,New Zealand.Road Trip
The drive to Milford Sound(along New Zealands 3rd Most Dangerous Road) and sail on Majestic Milford Sound,South Island New Zealand.Sit back and watch the scenery go past.Its almost like being there.
With Music soundtrack .Road & boat trip.
This video is a small part of our 8 week trip around both North & South Islands of New Zealand.
Starting in Auckland we rode the Kiwi Rail Northern Explorer to Wellington then crossed the Cook Strait to Picton.Most of these videos are in real time.
South Island :-
We picked up the hired campervan & drove to Kaikoura where we went whale watching and saw a sperm whale.We then drove further along the Pacific coast and out to the extinct volcanos that form the Banks peninsula to beautiful Akaroa .Then on over Arthers Pass (stopping at Castle hill) to Hokitika, where we had a gorgeous sunset.From Hokitika we went on to Franz Josef glacier and walked the trail to the glacier .From Franz Josef we went to lake Matheson taking in the circular walk around the lake,some great views.Then on along the coast via Bruce Bay(good stop for a coffee from the mobile cafe) and on to Haast turning inland up the Haast river & Gorge, some great views all along the river with lots of waterfalls to stop at.We took in the Thunder Creek Falls & Fantail Falls .
Then on to Lake Wanaka & Lake Hawea both beautiful views & great for photos.Then on to Wanaka town.From Wanaka we drove over the Crown Range to Arrowtown ,unfortunately the video of the descent from the top of the range somehow got corrupted(we will just have to go again).There are some good walks from Arrowtown.We did the Sawpit Gully Walk,the Anniversary Walk & Tobin's Track.
After Arrowtown we drove to Queenstown and along lake Wakatipu to Glenorchy then back to Queenstown and south along the other arm of Lake Wakatipu to Kingston had planned to go to Milford Sound from here but due to the road being washed away due to storms(and people stranded) our plans had to change so we switched our itinerary & drove south to the Catlins , stopping at Surat Bay then on to the Matai Falls & the McLean Falls , passing by Curio Bay and walking out to Slope Point the most southerly point of mainland South Island.Invercargill next and west along the coast to Riverton, stopping at Colac Bay & Gemstone Beach then on to Te Anau road to Milford Sound was now open for organised Coach convoys(we booked for the 2nd day it was open), a great day with good weather for Milford .Leaving te Anau we headed for Twizel via Queenstown where there are dark skies for star gazing.From twizel we continued on to Mount Cook where we walked to Kea Point(a short walk) and the longer 11km Hooker Valley Track to the glacier lake below Mount Cook.
Leaving Mount Cook passing lake Tekapo we again crossed Arthurs Pass to Greymouth this time.Then north up the coast,stopping at Pancake Rocks and then into the Buller Gorge stopping overnight in Murchison.The next day we drove on to Motueka staying for a couple of nights and walked along the coast by the sandspit.Following this we drove over Takaka Hill (up to 10 min wait in the traffic lights) where there is lots of road slippage, to Pohara on Golden Bay.We walked a track to Wainui falls and also visited Labrynth Rocks.Back over Takaka Hill to Marahau on the edge of Abel Tasman National Park to walk some of the Abel Tasman Coast Track and also a trip to Split Apple Rock.Leaving Marahou we had our first rainy day heading for Havelock,we stopped at Pelorus Bridge where we had on a previous trip canoed the river.The next day we drove the scenic route along the coast to Picton & on to the Ferry for North Island.
