Indian Street Food - 10 of the BEST Foods To Eat in Mumbai, India!

Indian street food in Mumbai is exciting and mouthwatering!
► SUBSCRIBE NOW for more street food:
► Read the Blog post:
► Watch my Indian food playlist:

There are dozens of Indian street foods you can eat when you’re in Mumbai, there are delicious looking delicacies everywhere you look in the city. But in this video you’ll discover a top 10 list of a few of the best Indian street food dishes that you don’t want to miss when you’re in Mumbai.

For details about all these Mumbai street food stalls, read my blog post:

1. Vada Pav - One of the most popular Mumbai street foods is vada pav, a spiced mashed potato patty that’s deep fried and stuffed into a bun along with chutney. Although it sounds simple and it is, it’s one of the greatest vegetarian burgers you’ll likely ever eat. Also, when you eat vada pav, don’t miss eating some fried chili's to go with it.

2. Bhelpuri - Another of the of the foods that’s iconic in Mumbai is bhelpuri, a snack made from puffed rice, mixed with chutney, and onions and tomatoes. It’s an Indian street food in Mumbai that’s especially common at beaches, and it makes a fantastic beach food. I tried the bhelpuri in this video at Juhu Beach.

3. Sev Puri - This is one of my personal favorite Indian street food chaats, a combination of little crispy disc chips topped with mashed potatoes, onions, and a variety of delicious chutneys, and a handful of sev, which are the all the little crispy things on top. When you take a bit of sev puri, the entire little disc will explode with delicious flavors, and it’s all about that chutney!

4. Pav Bhaji - Originally made from leftover vegetables that were mashed up, mixed with some butter and spices, and served with bread to mop it all up, pav bhaji is pretty much exactly that today, and it’s an Indian street food known for being popular in Mumbai. At some of the famous pav bhaji stalls, the mixture of potatoes and tomatoes is mashed up on a big hot plate, mixed with spices and butter, and then served with buttered fluffy buns.

5. Kebabs and Rolls - For any meat lovers, kebabs and rolls are one of the best things to eat in Mumbai. I especially enjoyed the bhuna roll in Mumbai, a wonderfully flavorful chicken curry packed into a thin rumali roti.

6. Chai - It’s not a food, but it is one of the joys of being in India, and that is drinking cups of hot chai on the side of the street. You don’t want to miss it when you’re in Mumbai.

7. Pani Puri - Popular as a street food snack across India, pani puri is the combination of little puris (hollow sphere chips) filled with potatoes and chickpeas, and then filled with chutney and flavored water. Each bite is a burst of incredible flavor and water.

8. Bombay Duck Fry - Although it’s commonly eaten at indoor restaurant, because of it’s importance in Mumbai, and since it’s served at local restaurants, I had to include it on this list of Mumbai food. Known at Bombay duck or bombil, it’s actually a type of lizardfish which is often deep fried and served with rice and side curries. It’s something you should try when you’re in Mumbai.

9. Mumbai Sandwich (Bombay Sandwich) - You don’t usually think of sandwiches when you think of Indian street food, but in Mumbai, the sandwich is one of the most popular roadside snacks. Often times pure vegetarian, a combination of masala potatoes, tomatoes, onions, beetroot, cheese, and chutney is pressed between bread, and grilled over fired. The result is a fascinating street sandwich you’ll never forget.

10. Dosa - Although from South India, Mumbai is a hub of Indian food, and you’ll find dosas all over Mumbai as well. The classic traditional version is a masala dosa, but there are also fusion types of dosas, including the paneer tikka dosa, which is absolutely magical.

Thank you for watching this video about the top 10 Indian street foods to eat when you’re in Mumbai. Hope you have an amazing time eating!

Top 10 Indian Street Foods in Mumbai, India | The BEST INDIAN Street Food in Mumbai

???? WATCH: Top 10 Korean Street Foods in Seoul
???? DAVID’S BEEN HERE SHIRTS & MERCH:

Back in early 2018, I spent three unforgettable weeks traveling through India and exploring its cities and historical sites, immersing myself in the culture, and going on as many street food tours as I possibly could.

I spent three days eating my way through Mumbai, the most populous city in India. In this video, I’m going to tell you all about the top 10 street foods you have to try when you visit Mumbai. You guys ready? Let’s do this.

Pani puri, which I first tried at Elco restaurant in the Bandra neighborhood of Mumbai. Panipuri is a round, hollow ball of crispy, fried bread that is punctured and then filled with a soup that can contain chili, tamarind chutney, chaat masala, chickpeas, onion, and potatoes.

Bombay duck, which is a local specialty in Mumbai that I tried at Mata Pita Da Dhaba on Madh Island. Now, you might be surprised to learn that Bombay Duck actually isn’t duck at all. It’s a fish that’s either deep fried or cooked in curry, and cut into strips almost like fish sticks. It’s soft, lightly battered, and crispy, and kind of reminded me of flounder.

Ice Gola, a cold, sweet, and salty treat made of shaved ice. The vendor molds the ice around a wooden stick and then dips it into a cup that’s filled with your choice of fruit flavorings. The one I had was blueberry and lemon, which I loved. It made for a unique and delicious combination along with the salt.

Kalidas Masala Vada Pav, a vegetarian Masala burger I tried in the Mulund neighborhood of Mumbai. The burger was made by mixing several ingredients together on a hot pan, including butter, Masala, coriander, and herbs, and cooking it until it reduces into a thick sauce or paste.

Nitrogen Biscuit, which I ate at the Ice Cream Factory, also in the Mulund neighborhood. It’s a freezing cold biscuit that’s been dipped in liquid nitrogen. Eating one of these bizarre desserts is a spectacle because as you chew the biscuit, the heat from your mouth turns the liquid nitrogen into a gas, which makes you look like you’re breathing smoke. My teeth were frozen afterward!

Ice Bhel is a cold, refreshing chaat dish that contains a mouthwatering blend of tomatoes, onions, puffed rice, garlic paste, and coriander. It’s crunchy and super flavorful, and not spicy at all, and is my favorite thing I tried on my first night in Mumbai.

Paneer Chili, which is a very popular Indo-Chinese dish I tried at Juhu Beach. It is made of cubes of deep fried cottage cheese, Chinese sauces, lots of vegetables including bell pepper and spring onions, chili paste, and a whole lot of deliciousness. I was told it would be really hot, but I didn’t find it particularly spicy. That said, it is bursting with flavor with every bite, and I cannot recommend it enough.

Chicken Lollipop, which I tried along Mohammad Ali Road. This is a fried chicken drumstick that’s covered in a red curry that’s so rich, it actually changes the color of the chicken. When you hold the drumstick upright by the bone, it resembles a lollipop, which is how the dish got its name.

Now, further along Mohammad Ali road, you can find the second-to-last items on this list, mutton and chicken kebabs. Mutton is the meat of a mature sheep, and the most common type of kebab is either meat or vegetables that are speared on a skewer and grilled over a fire. The kebabs I had were made of soft, spicy, minced meat and came with a refreshing salad on the side.

The last food on my list is another I tried along Mohammad Ali Road called Lassi, which is a creamy yogurt drink that was not only refreshing because of the heat in Mumbai, but it was also perfect for cooling down my mouth and throat after a long day of eating spicy foods. I tried two different flavors - the original and the saffron. I preferred the original, but my friends loved the saffron.

Now, if you’re heading off to India to try the street food, I highly recommend you take a dose of Pepto Bismol before breakfast and another before lunch every day so you don’t get sick from eating foods and spices your body is not used to.

Thank you so much for watching this video. If you liked it, please give me a thumbs up, please subscribe to my channel, and click the notification bell so you don’t miss out on any of my future videos!

Indian Food in Mumbai - HARDCORE Non-Veg Nalli Nihari and Bombay Street Food Sandwich!

In Mumbai get ready to eat some amazing Indian food!

►T-shirts:

Day 4: Mumbai, India - To start the day we met up with Myron, who is from Mumbai, and we headed over to explore Crawford Market. We stopped at a restaurant called Noor Mohammadi for a stunning dish called nalli nihari, and then had one of the most fascinating Mumbai street food sandwiches I’ve ever seen. It was a great day of food in Mumbai!

1:27 Crawford Market (Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Mandai) - We started off the morning by walking around what’s known as Crawford Market. The market is indoor and there’s just about anything you can imagine for sale from food to household supplies.

3:55 Noor Mohammadi Hotel (Restaurant) - This restaurants was one of the highlights of this day in Mumbai, and we came here specifically to eat a hardcore non-veg dish called nalli nihari. Typically in India the dish is made from buffalo and it includes bone marrow in the stew as well. It was incredibly oily and fatty, but also incredibly delicious. It was like richness on top of richness, and every single bite of the nalli nihari was worth it. The nalli nihari was especially good with the tandoori roti.

9:05 Bhendi Bazaar - After enjoying the nalli nihari, we then took a walk through Bhendi Bazaar, another action packed street market in Mumbai. There’s always something going on at Bhendi Bazaar, and some kind of action taking place.

10:30 Mumbai sandwich (Bombay sandwich) - When I spotted a man making sandwiches, I couldn’t wait to try it. Known commonly as the Bombay veg or Bombay chutney sandwich, but now also called the Mumbai sandwich, this is a favorite street food snack in Mumbai. You don’t normally think of sandwiches when you think of Indian food, but there are countless sandwich stalls in Mumbai. In contrast to the non-vegetarian dish I had previously, this Mumbai sandwich was vegetarian, and I got a mix of all the toppings, including tomato, onion, beetroot, cucumber, and cheese, all layered with chutney, and grilled in a fire. The sandwich was quite tasty, especially in a large part because of the different chutneys.

14:20 Haji Ali Juice Center / Haji Ali Dargah - Next we took a taxi over to Haji Ali Dargah (mosque), and had a juice at the legendary Haji Ali Juice Center. Unfortunately when we visited Haji Ali Mosque, the ocean tide was too high, so couldn’t walk to it.

16:46 Mount Mary Church - We then headed to Bandra and first stopped off at Mount Mary Church, one of the most famous basilica’s in Mumbai.

17:39 Castella de Aguada - Next we went to walk around Castella de Aguada, an old Portuguese fort, that’s now more like a park and a popular hangout spot.

19:00 Elco Restaurant - Since we were in the area, for snack we went to Elco and to have some chaat. We tried sev puri and dahi puri, both of which were very good, and it was nice to get some AC and relaxation indoors for a little while.

20:50 Milk dessert - While we were walking around Myron spotted a cart selling a type of milk dessert made from the first milk (colostrum). It was indeed very interesting.

22:16 Jai Jawan (Khar branch) - Finally for dinner, out last stop of the day, we walked over to a restaurant called Jai Jawan to eat their prawns fry and tandoori chicken. Dinner was amazing, Jai Jawan is a fantastic restaurant.

Trying Indian Street Food in Mumbai!

There were so many amazing Indian street food dishes to try in Mumbai, and our guide from A Chef's Tour, Pooja, did such a great job walking us around and helping us sample many of the best dishes. We were able to try cheese chili toast Mumbai style, sweet paan, gooseberries, sweet curd, bhel puri, moong dal puri, masala khichiya papad, and dahi bhel chat. We loved pretty much all of the dishes we tried, although not every one of them is something we would necessarily seek out again ;)

If you are a foreigner visiting India, we highly recommend taking the time to do a food tour! This is our third food tour in India, and each one has been so different and we really feel like we've had the opportunity to sample a good variety of Indian food. With a country as big as India, the food can really differ across various regions which is what we have found to be true! If you're looking for an Indian food tour in different cities, here are two more options with A Chef's Tour:
Delhi:
Kolkata:

Our food tour in Mumbai was a great introduction to the city! Previously named Bombay, this coastal city is home to around 21 million people. It's a big city, but having access to the water gives Mumbai a freshness that is difficult to find in other Indian cities. Although this is our first time in India, we have not been here for about 6 weeks and have got a pretty good taste for what India is like. Mumbai is the last big city we are visiting in India, and we are really excited for what is to come!

We hope this Mumbai food vlog is both informative and entertaining! If you love food vlogs, click the link for our food vlog playlist:
