212KM Ride Pangasinan to Sagada // The most scenic route in the Philippines

Halsema Highway (also known as the Benguet–Mountain Province Road, Baguio–Bontoc Road or Mountain Trail is a national secondary highway in the Philippines. Situated within the Cordillera Central range in northern Luzon, it stretches from the city limit of Baguio to the municipality of Bontoc.

Its highest point is at 7,400 feet (2,300 m) above sea level in the municipality of Atok. It was officially recognized as the highest altitude highway in the Philippines until 2019 when the 2,428.66 m (7,968.0 ft) high point Kiangan–Tinoc–Buguias Road in Tinoc, Ifugao was recognized as the new holder of the distinction.

The 150-kilometre (93.2 mi) highway covers 95 kilometres (59 mi) of Benguet province and traverses eight of its municipalities (La Trinidad, Tublay, Atok, Bokod, Kabayan, Buguias, Bakun, and Mankayan). It also covers four Mountain Province towns (Bauko, Sabangan, Bontoc, and Sagada).[8] The road splits into two upon reaching the village of Dantay, in Bontoc. One road leads to downtown Bontoc, while the other leads to the town of Sagada, 29 kilometres (18.0 mi) farther from the junction.

Road Trip Philippines: Sagada, Mountain Province

This is a short film from our road trip to Sagada, Philippines, back in February 2019.

Driving for about 8 hours from Pampanga to Sagada, taking the dreaded but scenic Halsema highway. It was mostly uphill with a lot of twists and turns, but the drive was so worth it!

Please excuse the shaky footages as they were shot hand-held only.

Thanks for watching!

The Daang Katutubo in Pangasinan // One of the most scenic road in the Philippines

The scenic 24.22-kilometer Daang Katutubo that would link Aguilar to Mangatarem in Pangasinan and Sta. Cruz, Zambales is 70 percent complete, a project engineer of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH)-Ilocos said.

The road project began in 2018 with initial funding of P784 million until this year from DPWH and the Department of Tourism, Willer Bince said in an interview.

The remaining 30 percent, including the 210-meter bridge and the road that would link Daang Katutubo to Daang Kalikasan in Mangatarem, would still need funding of P740 million, he said.

The road is a two-lane road unlike 'Daang Kalikasan,' which is a four-lane road. It is called 'Daang Katutubo' because the residents in the barangays along the road are indigenous peoples (IPs), Bince said.

Daang Katutubo will not only link Mangatarem to Sta. Cruz, Zambales but will also benefit the IPs and encourage economic, trade, and agro-tourism in the area, he said.

It used to be a muddy trail, especially those going to Sitio Mapita here. But with the said road, over 100 families in Sitio Mapita will benefit most from it, Bince said, adding that along the road are ylang-ylang plantations that would boost agro-tourism.

The project was initiated in 2012 by then Second District representative, Leopoldo Bataoil, now mayor of Lingayen town.

This road linking the two provinces will hasten not only travel but also trade and tourism since it passes through mountains and its construction will also ensure the protection and preservation of the remaining virgin forests in the area, Bataoil said in a recent interview.

The Daang Katutubo and Daang Kalikasan in Mangatarem have been temporarily closed to visitors to prevent delays in its construction.

Both roads draw tourists due to the breath-taking view of the mountains.

BAGUIO TO SAGADA | PHILIPPINES ROADTRIP

After a short stay in Baguio we travel further north into the mountain province.

Halsema Highway at Night | Imagine Driving in this Road Alone at Night! | Wanderers Top

Halsema Highway was considered one of the most dangerous highways in the world. Everyday, commuters, transporters, tourists, and residents coming from Baguio or Mt. Province drove this route, braving steep crags, narrow and sheer drop offs, some more than 1000 feet. But the road has now improved, and it’s a lovely trip by an asphalted road tracing a circuitous path, that crosses the massive Cordillera Central mountain range on the Island of Luzon.

Halsema Highway (also known Baguio-Bontoc Road or Mountain Trail) has a length of 150 km and it’s a two- to four-lane highway that stretches from Baguio City to Bontoc, Mountain Province, in the Philippines. It also goes through some of the most remote provinces in the country. Like many under-maintained mountain roads, landslides are a hazard on the Halsema Highway, where big stones and debris tumble from peaks. And along with the cloud forests comes mist that can ruin visibility.
Known as the “main artery” of the Cordillera’s road system, the 150-mile Halsema Highway links Baguio and Benguet province to the rest of Northern Luzon. The road also leads to Sagada, which is 29 km farther from the junction. Landslides, mud slides, and falling rocks are common along this road. Bus drivers travel at high speeds on these narrow roads, making it very dangerous for smaller vehicles. Extreme foggy conditions and slippery asphalt during rainy season, complicate the driving, turning the road even more dangerous.
