#10 Salt Piles at Salar de Uyuni
Salar de Uyuni, the world’s largest salt flat, is one of the most distinct natural landmarks in the world. The immense plains of salt are viewable from space and are a huge attraction for tourists and photographers. After rainfall, the plains turn into an enormous reflective mirror that creates a surreal landscape. The piles of salt ready for harvest only add to the uncanny imagery.

# 9 Giant’s Causeway
The Giant’s Causeway is a huge oceanside area in Northern Ireland comprised of giant interlocking columns of basalt rock. Most of the columns are hexagonal in shape and perfectly fit together creating a surreal almost game-like environment. Scientifically speaking the columns were created by an ancient volcanic explosion, but it gains its name from the popular legend that the cliffs were built as a causeway by a giant in ancient times.

# 8 Balance Rock
In the Garden of Gods in Colorado Springs there are a plethora of beautiful red rock formations, but possibly the most iconic of these rocks is Balance Rock - a huge boulder that seems like it could fall over at any moment. It is destined to fall over eventually when erosion or another damage dislodges it from its gripping points. Go and see Balance Rock before it falls over and becomes just a normal rock.

# 7 Balancing Rock, Canada
There is another precarious rock, but this seems to be even more impossible. The Balancing Rock in Nova Scotia is believed to be standing for thousands of years. It’s about 30 feet tall and seems to be just standing straight up out of pure will.

# 6 Fly Geyser
This erupting rock is Fly Geyser, an accidental man-made geothermal geyser in Washoe County. The fountain was created in 1964 when people were exploring sources of geothermal energy and accidentally drilled into a well. The well was never capped properly and has now become a geyser that shoots water into the air, creating the ever growing rock formation around it. It looks like a weird alien structure because of thermophilic algae that thrive in the high temperatures Fly Geyser generates.

# 5 Split Apple Rock
Tokangawhā, aka Split Apple Rock, is a geological rock formation off the coast of South Island of New Zealand. It is a structure made of granite and looks almost like it was deliberately cut in half. This cleft was natural, though, with no help from any humans. What exactly could have cut this boulder in half is a mystery although theories include water creeping into the rock, freezing, and expanding to break the rock. It’s a popular spot for tourists to take the exact same photo every year.

# 4 Moeraki Boulders
The Moeraki Boulders are unusually large and spherical boulders that are spread along Koekohe Beach on the Otago coast of New Zealand. Local Maori legends explain the boulders as the remains of eel baskets from the large sailing canoe that brought Maori people to the island hundreds of years ago. These stones are usually hollow but sometimes they are filled with calcite and quartz, which makes it look very interesting when they are broken open or exposed.

# 3 Folding Rocks at Agia Pavlos
These interesting looking rocks are known commonly as the Folding Rocks. They are sedimentary limestone layers were once layered horizontally at the bottom of the sea, but tectonic plates pushed them together and forced them upwards.

# 2 Torghatten
Torghatten is a granite mountain on Torget island in Norway. As far as mountains go it looks pretty uncharacteristic and lumpy except for the giant gaping hole right in the middle of it. According to legend, the mountain hole was made by a troll who was chasing a beautiful girl. Knowing he could never catch the girl he shot an arrow at her, but the Troll King threw his hat to save her and that hat turned into the mountain. Sounds pretty legit to me.

# 1 Abandoned Russian Salt Mine
This abandoned Russian Salt Mine looks more like a scene from a trippy art house movie. The naturally occurring minerals in the abandoned mine create psychedelic patterns and structures which create unique swirls. While the naturally occurring art in these walls are beautiful, exploring the mines are not without danger. There are hazards of falling, landslides, and low visibility, but it might be worth facing to see this one of a kind place.

The CRAZIEST Rock Formations Around The World REVEALED..

The CRAZIEST Rock Formations Around The World REVEALED..

Welcome back to Around The Globe. We are going to find some of the craziest rock formations around the world.
Rock formations are truly Mother Nature’s art. These ancient sculptures were formed by thousands of years of weather and erosion—they’re too weird and wonderful to have been made by the human mind. This list came straight from the Earth herself.

Let’s start with, Goblin Valley State Park, The whole park is made up of “hoodoos,” or goblins, which are mushroom-shaped sandstone rocks—some of which are several yards tall. Next is The Turnip Rock, is a relatively small stacked rock formation located in the shallow waters off the shore of Lake Huron, in Michigan’s Thumb. Next is The Eye of the Sahara, Looking like a bonafide bullseye (as well as a regular eye) the size of a country, the eye of the Sahara is a prominent circular feature located in the massive Sahara desert that has been observed by fellows up there in space. Next is The Elephant Rock at Valley of Fire State Park, one of the most interesting rock formations that is located right next to the east entrance of the park. These are only the few crazy rock formations around the world.

This Huge Rock Formation Is Unreal! ???? (Explained)

The Al-Naslaa rock formation, a geological marvel in Saudi Arabia's Tayma oasis, captivates with its astonishing split that appears perfectly sliced. Perched atop two slender columns, this natural wonder has baffled researchers for decades. Its symmetrical division, seemingly cut by an invisible blade, challenges the conventional understanding of erosion and geology. As a mystery shrouded in the desert sands, the Al-Naslaa rock formation invites speculation and wonder, leaving us to marvel at the mysteries the Earth continues to reveal.

Everything goes Wrong! Rock of Naslaa + Khaybar Geoglyphs and Mustatils of Saudi Arabia خَيْبَر

Sometimes your plans don't work out ????????‍♀️ We were trying to get to Al Ula, but a 700 km roadblock stood in our way. Instead, we took the opportunity to visit the Rock of Naslaa - صخرة النصلة - a rock formation that is so perfectly split by nature, it looks like a laser might have cut through it. Some people might place an extraterrestrial explanation on it, however, it was caused by wind erosion which is pretty clear when you see all the other rock formations and rock arches in the area.

From Al Naslaa Rock formation, we made our way to Khaybar خَيْبَر where we found a beautiful offroad camping spot near a wadi, and then explored the 10,000-year-old burial sites of the Khaybar Geoglyphs sometimes known as mustatils.

The city of Khaybar is built on lava fields, and throughout the lava fields, you can find ancient burial mounds (key hole shapes or circles), domestication fences (long, meandering walls) , and mysterious gates (rectangular formations several hundred meters long). From the ground, they might not look like much, but wait until you see them from the drone!

These mysterious formations were just highlighted in a new Discovery Channel Architects of Ancient Arabia documentary, however, I think the ones here are more impressive than the ones found in Al Ula because of the high concentration of them found in Khaybar. We've seen them throughout the country, however, the shear number near Khaybar is astounding.

We had a few mishaps in this adventure when our plans to head west were hindered by a governmental shutdown of a major thoroughfare. Instead of heading towards Wadi Al Disah and the Red Sea, we instead made our way south of Tayma to the Rock of Naslaa and Khaybar.

A B O U T U S

We’re Eric and Ashley, an American couple who has spent the last 5 years living and working in Saudi Arabia. We’ve traveled a TON in the time we’ve been here, but in the craziness of 2020 (and 2021), we decided to finally do some real exploring in the country we’re fortunate enough to call home for now.

As Saudi Arabia is finally opening up for tourism, we’re taking the chance to experience both the famous and off-the-beaten path the Kingdom has to offer. Our goal is to show you the uniqueness of the country and inspire you to set out on your own adventures – whether in remote corners of the world or just down the road from your home.

12. Rock with Shadows (Utah of the USA)
The photo shows the awl-shaped rock with the shadow of the Bridger-Jack mountain under the early morning sun, and the Lavender Cayon valley with a purplish color. It is the Wingate sandstone formation that took shape 200 million years ago due to sedimentation, when there were sandy dunes several hundred feet high in the area. The formation is denominated as the mountainous zone so rugged never seen, where it is only seen rocks, rocky caves, slopes and low lands.

11. Roca Perce (Canada)
Perce, one of the largest arch rock formations in the world, previously had two arches, and on June 17, 1845, one of the two collapsed. Although there is only one arch remaining, 15 meters high, the stage is still one of the seven most famous places in Canada

It is a place of pilgrimage of the local native inhabitants. There are still wall paintings with mysterious motifs at the foot of the rock. According to scholars, the Ayers was formed between 500 and 600 million years ago. It has a very smooth surface because it had been submerged in the sea. It looks like a monument if it is warned from afar.

7. The Arch of Baja California Sur (Mexico)
The Arc is located at the junction of the Sea of Cortez and the Pacific Ocean, El Arco, as its name implies, is a geological formation with an opening in the middle. There are only two identical formations in the Pacific Ocean that dazzle for their originality and wonderful surroundings.

World's Strangest Rock Formations | Kuklica Macedonia

The stone town is an area consisting of over 120 naturally formed stone pillars, located in the village of Kuklica, near Kratovo in Macedonia.
The stone dolls called The Bride and groom with the other stones in the background
Location
Kuklica is located 8 km northwest of Kratovo. The stone formations are situated on the right bank of the Kriva River valley. The area has an altitude of 415-420 m and extends over an area of 0.3 square km.

The site of the Stone wedding in Kuklica
Legends
There are two main legends surrounding the formation of the strange stone pillars in Kuklica. The most famous legend is that of a man who could not decide which of two women he should marry. So, the man planned to marry each woman on the same day at different times. When the first wedding was in progress, the woman to marry the man second went to see who was getting married on the same day as she. When she saw her future husband marrying another woman, she cursed all in attendance at the wedding and turned them into stone.

Stone pillars
Another popular legend is that there was once a forest in the area, but due to battles it was burned down. Then, the area became a wasteland. The temperatures were very low and when the army passed through the wasteland, all of the soldiers turned into rocks.

Panoramic view of the site
According to the local villagers, new figures appear every 5-6 years.

Formation
Aside from mystic stories and legends, the earth pyramid in Kuklica was formed as a result of natural erosion processes in the Holocene, during the past 100,000 years. Differences in the erodibility of the volcanic rocks of the area are the main factor for the pillars creation. Thus, soft tuffs rocks on the base are overlaid by solid, sturdy andesites and ignimbrites on the top, which are nearly 30 million years old
