10 THINGS THAT YOU MUST KNOW BEFORE GOING TO MOZAMBIQUE

Created by Don Morris gmtelevision@aol.com

This channel documents my adventures travelling around Southern Africa.
Four years ago I left the big city, towing my caravan and a speedboat with my cat for company, never to return to the big city.
I'll be documenting my adventures and showing caravan parks that I spend time at in Southern Africa.

The tiny house movement is small in Southern Africa, but is growing quite quickly.
There are still ways to live in this world that allow one to wander the world, as John Wayne used to do in the old western movies.
As I get older I have the choice to sit in four walls, watch TV and get grumpy, or go off and have an adventure in my old age.
I've decided to choose the adventure and I'm seeing some great places and having some amazing experiences.
Hopefully these videos will bring out your inner 'John Wayne'.

Please like and subscribe and don't forget to ring the little bell to be informed of new videos when they come out.
If you like the concept and the videos, please spread the word to grow this channel.

Want to visit Mozambique? Good idea, the beaches are wonderful there. 8 Things NOT TO Do in Mozambique!

Mozambique is unfortunately more known for its turmoil in its past, than for the beauty it hides within its borders and its people! This being said, as with all countries, there are some things that should be avoided. Here are 8 Things NOT TO Do in Mozambique!

1. Don't Travel Without Cash
Mozambique is still an underdeveloped country, while ATMs aren’t non-existent, they are few and far between. If you try to pay by credit card you’ll probably get laughed at!
They accept Mozambique Meticals, South African Rands, and US Dollars

2. Don’t Bother Looking For Wifi
Mozambique doesn’t have the infrastructure for broadband or wifi. If you need to stay connected, buy a pay as you go sim card which you’ll have to register at the shop and use mobile data, it’s cheap at 7 dollars for 5 GB and top-up cards are sold everywhere.

3. Don’t Use Public Transport!
The local buses or “chapas” are normally overcrowded, in bad condition, and the drivers aren’t the most prudent around. Accidents are common. It’s best to hire a car or private driver to get about.

4. Don’t Drink the Tap Water
As a general rule of thumb for travel, always drink bottled or filtered water. Most of the better hotels or hostels will have filtered water but always ask beforehand. Or just drink the national beer 2M pronounced “dosh eme”.

5. Don’t Trust the Police!
While not really corrupt they are underpaid, so if they can pick up some cash with a fake fine they will. Always ask for a receipt when being fined as this will make things official. If the policeman is in a gray uniform and asks you for ID never give him the original as you’ll probably have to pay him to get it back.

6. Don’t Show Your Valuables
As with every country in the world if you leave your valuables unattended, are careless with your handbag, walk down a dark alley alone, or carry your wallet in your back pocket, you will probably be robbed.

7. Don’t Forget Your Meds
Malaria is a big problem in Mozambique and mosquitos plentiful especially in the rainy season. Always take your malaria tablets, they are readily available in pharmacies without a prescription and cost between 4-7 dollars.

8. Don't Go in the Rainy Season
Mozambique is hot and humid, especially between December and April. Their winter season is between May and November and while it will still be hot there’s less chance of rain and the nights are cooler.

Which country should we do next?

MAPUTO, MOZAMBIQUE TOP 9 THINGS TO SEE

Top 9 things to see and do in Maputo - Mozambique's capital city.
Maputo is a port city and the capital of Mozambique. It lies along the north bank of Espírito Santo estuary of Delagoa Bay, an inlet of the Indian Ocean. The town developed around a Portuguese fortress completed in 1787. Mozambique - a former colony of Portugal achieved independence in 1975. Following independence, Mozambique was torn by internal conflict as the Marxist government, supported in part by the Soviet Union and Cuba, battled anticommunist forces funded by South Africa and Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) for control of the country. Marked by countless acts of terror, the ensuing warfare displaced over four million people and resulted in the death of perhaps a million more as a result of the violence, famine, and disease it engendered. The horrible conflict formally ended in 1992.
Take my tour of the top things to see in Maputo.
