WHAT TO DO in New York City in 48 Hours! (First Trip to NYC)

We have never been to New York City until now! I still can’t believe we are finally here! We have two full days to see as much as we can! It will help that we decided to stay right in the center of Manhattan… literally in the middle of Times Square! This is a good thing and a bad thing as it is quite bright in our room at night at the Times Square Edition.

Day one… After getting our fill of taking in Times Square, we take the Big Bus (hop on hop off tour) to see some of the sights. We always love these tours as they are informative and a great way to see the city. Just be prepared for a slower pace due to the traffic… We start off in Midtown Manhattan and travel down 5th Avenue past the Empire State Building and the Flatiron Building. Our first stop to get off was in SoHo… we walked to Greenwich Village for pizza! First stop was John’s of Bleecker Street and then just a block away to Bleecker Street Pizza.

Back on the bus, we went through Chinatown & Little Italy and then got off at the Brooklyn Bridge stop and relaxed in City Hall Park for a bit. We decided to get off at this stop as it was nearest the 911 Memorial. This is a surreal location that everyone should visit. We were able to take in the festivities of a street market in World Trade Center Plaza with food from all over the world! Too bad we were so full from the pizza! Wandering around downtown we found ourselves at a rooftop bar on the Conrad Building called Loopy Doopy where they have a very unique cocktail including popsicles! We stayed to watch the sunset over New Jersey.

Hopping the subway for the first time on our trip, we make our way to Sarge’s Deli for dinner. Another food item, that we had to try was the pastrami & corned beef sandwich… and it didn’t disappoint! Luckily we had a 30 minute walk back to the hotel to burn some of those calories off!

Day two… Today is all about Central Park! It is about a 30 minute walk from our hotel but we grab Starbucks along the way for some fuel. We enter through the South side and just stroll. It is such a beautiful day, and a Saturday, so many of the locals are out enjoying the great weather. We stumble across sprawling lawns with people laid out on blankets, volley ball games, birthday parties, etc. Just about everything that could be happening that day was. We found some of the landmarks like Bethesda Terrace with the beautiful fountain and geese & ducks coming in and out of the pond; the Alice in Wonderland Statue and Belvedere Castle. We tried to find the spot of the snowball fight in Elf, but no luck!

Next stop is the Empire State Building! We have a CityPASS that gives us entrance to the observation deck and we didn’t want to miss it. And it was so much more than we expected! There are several floors of information and interactive exhibits about the building. It was the tallest building in the world when it was constructed in 1931. It was really cool to see the photos of the view of NYC then compared to what it looks like now. And of course, we made it to the top of the 86 story observation deck. It is incredible to see the views from there!

We end our trip to the Big Apple by seeing the city from the river. A sunset cruise is also part of the CityPass and at 7:00 we board our boat. THIS WAS THE BEST THING WE DID!!! First off, seeing the sunset over the city was breathtaking! But we floated past the Statue of Liberty right at dusk as well… just incredible! Then, when it is full dark, the lights of the city come on! This is something we will never forget!!

Ok, time for a good night’s sleep as we are boarding a cruise ship tomorrow!!

10 Things Every First Timer MUST DO When Visiting NYC ! 2022

#NYC #manhattan #timessquare

New York, often called New York City (NYC) to distinguish it from the state of New York, is the most populous city in the United States. With a 2020 population of 8,804,190 distributed over 300.46 square miles (778.2 km2), New York City is also the most densely populated major city in the United States. Located at the southern tip of the state of New York, the city is the center of the New York metropolitan area, the largest metropolitan area in the world by urban area.[9] With over 20.1 million people in its metropolitan statistical area and 23.5 million in its combined statistical area as of 2020, New York is one of the world's most populous megacities. New York City has been described as the cultural, financial, and media capital of the world, and is a significant influence on commerce, entertainment, research, technology, education, politics, tourism, dining, art, fashion, and sports. It is the most photographed city in the world.[10] Home to the headquarters of the United Nations, New York is an important center for international diplomacy,[11][12] and has sometimes been called the capital of the world.

Situated on one of the world's largest natural harbors, New York City is composed of five boroughs, each of which is coextensive with a respective county of the state of New York. The five boroughs—Brooklyn (Kings County), Queens (Queens County), Manhattan (New York County), the Bronx (Bronx County), and Staten Island (Richmond County)—were created when local governments were consolidated into a single municipal entity in 1898.[13] The city and its metropolitan area constitute the premier gateway for legal immigration to the United States. As many as 800 languages are spoken in New York,[14] making it the most linguistically diverse city in the world. New York is home to more than 3.2 million residents born outside the United States, the largest foreign-born population of any city in the world as of 2016.[15][16] As of 2018, the New York metropolitan area is estimated to produce a gross metropolitan product (GMP) of nearly $1.8 trillion, ranking it first in the United States. If the New York metropolitan area were a sovereign state, it would have the eighth-largest economy in the world. New York is home to the second highest number of billionaires of any city in the world.[17][18]

New York City traces its origins to a trading post founded on the southern tip of Manhattan Island by Dutch colonists in approximately 1624. The settlement was named New Amsterdam (Dutch: Nieuw Amsterdam) in 1626 and was chartered as a city in 1653. The city came under English control in 1664 and was renamed New York after King Charles II of England granted the lands to his brother, the Duke of York.[19][20] The city was regained by the Dutch in July 1673 and was renamed New Orange for one year and three months; the city has been continuously named New York since November 1674. New York City was the capital of the United States from 1785 until 1790,[21] and has been the largest U.S. city since 1790. The Statue of Liberty greeted millions of immigrants as they came to the U.S. by ship in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, and is a symbol of the U.S. and its ideals of liberty and peace.[22] In the 21st century, New York has emerged as a global node of creativity, entrepreneurship,[23] and environmental sustainability,[24][25] and as a symbol of freedom and cultural diversity.[26] In 2019, New York was voted the greatest city in the world per a survey of over 30,000 people from 48 cities worldwide, citing its cultural diversity.[27]

Many districts and monuments in New York City are major landmarks, including three of the world's ten most visited tourist attractions in 2013.[28] A record 66.6 million tourists visited New York City in 2019. Times Square is the brightly illuminated hub of the Broadway Theater District,[29] one of the world's busiest pedestrian intersections,[28][30] and a major center of the world's entertainment industry.[31] Many of the city's landmarks, skyscrapers, and parks are known around the world, as is the city's fast pace, spawning the term New York minute. The Empire State Building has become the global standard of reference to describe the height and length of other structures.[32] Manhattan's real estate market is among the most expensive in the world.[33][34] Providing continuous 24/7 service and contributing to the nickname The City That Never Sleeps, the New York City Subway is the largest single-operator rapid transit system worldwide, with 472 rail stations.
