Qixingtan is a landscaped area immediately north of Hualien City. The name means “Seven Star Lake,” but this is in fact a lovely arcing bay of crystalline blue-green Pacific waters, invariably made even more photo-friendly by local fishermen busy on their craft close inshore. The bay’s north end is the north terminus of a breezy seaside bike path stretching 21km to Nanbin Park on Hualien City’s south side. There are bike-rental stations near the bay’s north and south ends. Among the many other facilities are the Stone Sculpture Park, Star Watching Plaza, Sunrise Building (Qixingtan’s sunrises are renowned), children’s playground, and seaside botanical garden. At bikeway-side are signboards explaining the seaside ecology, many with English.
Shitiping. The name means “stone steps.” The dramatically terraced volcanic rock and raised-coral formations here form what looks like a staircase rising out to sea. The sea’s great erosive powers are in visually inspiring evidence here – all about are kettle holes and surging tide pools. The teeming marine life draws fishermen, shellfish collectors, and scuba divers. The distinctive ecology also features such oceanside-adapted plants as screw pine, cactus, and morning glory. There isn’t much shade, so bring water; there’s also ice cream, popsicles, and other cooling goodies available at the visitor center.
Starchasers (as in “movie stars”) will be especially thrilled to learn about the existence of Niushan, where legendary director Martin Scorcese, Irish actor Liam Neeson, and other big names recently did shooting for the movie Silence, scheduled for release in 2016. What you’ll find at the end of a steep, narrow, long-grass-brushed road that leads off the here inland-and-upland coastal highway is a long and dramatically fetching arc beach bracketed by mountains that drop into the sea. The only buildings here are right behind the isolated beach – those of the Niushan Huting, a combination restaurant/café/bar/homestay/campground complex ( Chinese), owned by members of the Amis tribe, Taiwan’s largest, and beside these a couple of tourist-draw thatch-roof structures from the faux village built for Silence (the rest were being torn down the day we visited). “Niushan” means “cow mountain”; to find the side-road entrance, look for the highway-side “Niushan Huting” sign on a totem pole capped with a steer-head sculpture (26.6km mark).

The buildings of the Liurong Temple include the Mountain Gate, the Flower Pagoda, the Hall of Great Buddha's, the Hall of Avalokitesvara Buddhisatva, the Hall of the Sixth Patriarch, the Pavilion of Preserving Scriptures, the Pavilion of Burong, and the Ancestors' Tomb.
In the early Ming Dynasty, half of the temple was divided for the Yongfeng Warehouse. In the eighth year of Hongwu (1375), the Juehuang Hall was rebuilt in the east of the Thousand Buddhas and the gate was re-placed to the east. In 1921, the Guangzhou Municipal Government demolished the old city and built roads, creating the Flower Pagoda Street (now Liurong Road) in the east of Liurong Temple, and the mountain gate set up in the early Ming Dynasty was retreated and connected to the Tianwang Temple.
In the early Ming Dynasty, only the Thousand Buddha Pagoda and the Guanyin Hall remained in the temple, and the site of the former temple was in the present-day Fudo Hall. The reconstructed Guanyin Hall was completed on February 10, 1988, and the new hall is located in the east of the Yung Yin Garden in front of the Sixth Patriarch's Hall, with a floor area of 220 square meters and a height of 11 meters, in the style of the Qing Dynasty.

:DIALOGUE at Yong Feng Art Museum by JITU Creative Space
In Nov. 2019, as part of the Yong Feng Art Museum’s Yu Jian Art Festival in An Hui’s province in China, JITU studio Creative Space & Yong Feng Art Museum collaborated together to bring :DIALOGUE a painting dual exhibition, curated by JITU Creative Space, featuring the works of two French artists Christophe Lavenair & Theophile Arcelin.
The Yong Feng Art Museum’s Yu Jian Art Festival was sponsored by the Government of Yong Feng Town of Mount Huangshan District, the Propaganda Department of the Mount Huangshan provincial Party committee, the Mount Huangshan cultural tourism and Sports Bureau, the Mount Huangshan District Education Bureau and the Mount Huangshan District Committee of the Communist Youth League, in China.
This exhibition was 1st organized in Sept. 19’ at JITU Creative Space in Beijing 798 Art District. It had a pre-opening during Gallery Night co-organized by 6 other Art galleries & the 798 Art District.
Finally, the exhibition toured with the festival in Nanchang, Jiangxi University of Applied Science and Technology; the Zhongyuan Institute of Culture and Art in Zhengzhou and the Heilongjiang Qiqihar University.

閩都民俗園位於中國福建省閩侯縣城新區。閩侯縣是福建省福州市轄下的一個縣級行政區，地處福建省東南沿海地區。福建省位於中國東南沿海，介於浙江省和廣東省之間，與台灣島相對。福建省有著悠久的歷史和豐富的文化遺產，以其美麗的自然風光和獨特的閩南文化而聞名。閩侯縣作為福州市的一部分，也承載著豐富的歷史和文化資源，閩都民俗園就座落在這個地區。
園區以展示閩越農耕文化為主線，通過各類建築（包括遷建復原、仿建明清時代閩侯民居、新建功能配套建築等）、園林布局、雕塑、實物展示、多媒體運用、互動體驗等手段，反映福州地區明、清時期的民俗特徵，是集休閒旅遊、感悟體驗為一體的文化工程。
閩都民俗園於2010年11月動工，是一處突出農耕文化，以體現福州地區古代、近代耕讀習俗為主的開放性主題文化公園。公園佔地180畝，主要由生產園、生活園、教育園及仿古商業街等組成。
建造規模
生產園佔地約54畝，由農耕廣場、四季農田、農家大院、副業作坊、茉莉花茶坊等組成，園中有農事、採茶等雕塑13組，再現了農事耕作、茉莉花茶製作、副業手工藝製作等農耕生活情景。生活園佔地約57畝，由古民居、福祿壽喜廣場、登高樓、戲台、茶樓、閩越王廟、四季廣場等組成，著重體現百姓人家婚喪嫁娶、節慶賀壽、品茗聽戲、踏春遊玩、登高望遠以及民俗信仰等日常生活俗事。
教育園佔地面積約18畝，由私塾、圖書館、曲水流觴等園林景觀組成，展示傳統教育習俗，再現古代兒童訓蒙、科舉考試、雅士文化等情景。
位於園區南側的仿古商業街佔地約34畝，由7棟共11座體現本地民居商鋪特色的2層仿古建築組成。
建築文化
「為讓遊客可以在民俗園感受到閩都歷史文化，園方還按1:1的比例重建了永豐閩越王廟和青口龜山閣兩座具有地方特點的古建築。」據閩侯閩都民俗園副主任徐美文介紹，為真實再現閩都古代農家大院居民的生活景象，園內建築基本以明清時代民居建築為藍本，並按照農家民居特點作相應的生產生活佈置，擺上農具等物品，力圖還原最原汁原味的古代風格。
The Minzuyuan Folk Culture Park is located in the Xin District of Minhou County, Fuzhou City, Fujian Province, China. Minhou County is an administrative district under the jurisdiction of Fuzhou City, situated in the southeastern coastal region of Fujian Province. Fujian Province itself is located on the southeast coast of China, bordered by Zhejiang Province and Guangdong Province, and across from the island of Taiwan. Fujian Province has a long history and rich cultural heritage, renowned for its beautiful natural scenery and unique Minnan culture. As part of Fuzhou City, Minhou County also boasts abundant historical and cultural resources, and the Minzuyuan Folk Culture Park is situated in this area.
The park primarily focuses on showcasing the Minyue agricultural culture, employing various means such as architecture (including relocated/restored and replicated Ming and Qing dynasty-style Minhou dwellings as well as newly constructed functional buildings), garden layout, sculptures, object displays, multimedia applications, and interactive experiences to reflect the folk characteristics of the Fuzhou region during the Ming and Qing periods. It serves as a cultural project that integrates leisure tourism and experiential understanding.
Construction of the Minzuyuan Folk Culture Park began in November 2010. It is an open-themed cultural park that highlights agricultural culture and embodies ancient and modern farming and learning customs in the Fuzhou region. The park covers an area of 180 acres and consists mainly of a production garden, living garden, education garden, and a reconstructed ancient commercial street.
The production garden occupies approximately 54 acres and comprises a farming square, four-season farmland, rural courtyards, sideline workshops, and a jasmine tea workshop. Within the garden, there are 13 sculptures depicting agricultural activities, tea picking, and other aspects of farming life. The living garden covers about 57 acres and includes ancient residences, a square for blessing and longevity, a high-rise building, a stage, a teahouse, the Minyue King's Temple, and a four-season square. It focuses on showcasing various aspects of daily life, such as weddings, funerals, festivals, tea tasting, watching dramas, spring outings, and folk beliefs.
The education garden spans an area of approximately 18 acres and features private schools, libraries, and landscape elements like flowing water and drinking vessels. It showcases traditional educational customs, depicting scenes of ancient child education, imperial examination system, and literati culture.
Located on the southern side of the park, the replicated ancient commercial street covers around 34 acres and comprises seven buildings with a total of 11 two-story replica structures reflecting the local characteristics of residential and commercial establishments.
Regarding the architectural culture, in order to allow visitors to experience the historical and cultural heritage of the Minyue region, the park has reconstructed two distinctive local ancient buildings, namely the Yongfeng Minyue King's Temple and the Qingkou Guishan Pavilion, on a 1:1 scale. According to Xu Meiwen, the Deputy Director of the Minzuyuan Folk Culture Park in Minhou County, the park's buildings are primarily based on Ming and Qing dynasty-style residential architecture to authentically recreate the living scenes of ancient rural courtyard residents. The buildings are furnished and arranged with agricultural tools and other items, aiming to restore the most authentic ancient style.

In late July 2022 I went to the Sayram Lake in Xinjiang. Sayram Lake is located in the Bortala Prefecture near the Tian Shan Mountains, Xinjiang, China. In the Kazakh language Sayram means 'blessing'. It is also known as Santai Haizi. It is the largest alpine lake in Xinjiang and also the highest.
My second visit in six years. Super glad to see this place again.
