Xiamen University Walking Tour, China's Most Beautiful Campus
Xiamen University, short for Xiamen University, was founded in 1921 by Mr. Chen Jiageng, a famous patriotic overseas Chinese leader. It is the first university founded by overseas Chinese in the history of modern education in China.
It is one of the earliest universities in China to recruit graduate students. It is the first university in China to build an independent campus overseas, and is known as the strongest in the South.
Xiamen University is known as the most beautiful university in China. Its campus is located in a lake facing the sea, backed by Wanshi Botanical Garden, with Nanputuo Temple on one side and Baicheng Beach on the other.
It is across the sea from Gulangyu Island, a world cultural heritage. Its early buildings, including Qunxian Tower, Jiannan Tower, Furong Tower and Xiamen University Anthropology Museum, are the key cultural relics protection units in China.
Xiamen University is ranked #297 in Best Global Universities. Schools are ranked according to their performance across a set of widely accepted indicators of excellence.
The university is directly administered by the Chinese Ministry of Education and is highly rated nationally for subjects including journalism, chemistry and economics.
Xiamen University (XMU) , established in 1921 by renowned patriotic overseas Chinese leader Mr. Tan Kah Kee, is the first university founded by an overseas Chinese in the history of modern Chinese education.
XMU has long been listed among China’s leading universities on the national 211 Project, 985 Project and Double First-class initiative, which have been launched by the Chinese government to support selected universities in achieving world-class standing.
Xiamen University Malaysia Campus is the first overseas branch campus established by a prestigious Chinese university.
With a graduate school, 6 academic divisions consisting of 30 schools and colleges, and 16 research institutes, XMU boasts a total enrollment of nearly 40,000 full-time students (including 1,208 international students), i.e. 20,651 undergraduates, 16,712 graduate students toward a master’s degree, 4,737 doctoral candidates.
XMU currently has a faculty of over 2,700 full-time teachers and researchers, of whom 21 are the members of the Chinese Academy of Sciences or of the Chinese Academy of Engineering (including 9 who are employed simultaneously by other institutions).
XMU has forged partnerships with 250 universities in such countries as the UK, the US, Japan, France, Russia, etc., as well as China’s special administrative regions like Hong Kong and Macao and the Province of Taiwan; it has established 15 Confucius Institutes in collaboration with local universities in 13 countries.
In September 2013, in a bid to advance the educational cooperation and enchange between China and ASEAN countries, the Chinese and Malaysian governments authorized Xiamen University to build a campus in Malaysia-Xiamen University Malaysia (XMUM).
As the first overseas campus set up by a renowned Chinese university and the first Chinese university branch campus in Malaysia, XMUM is acclaimed as a brilliant pearl on the 21st Century Marine Silk Road. Admitted its first intake of students in February 2016, XMUM now has a student enrolment of over 5,000 students from 28 countries and regions.
Nestled snugly between green hills and the blue sea, XMU is renowned as China’s most beautiful university for its excellent education facilities and beautiful environment.

HIDDEN PARADISE IN CHINA | Xiamen & Gulangyu (4K)
My most epic adventure yet.
I explored Xiamen, Gulangyu and Dongshandao, opposite the Chinese province of Taiwan, with some Chinese friends.
Xiamen, in Fujian province in the East China Sea, is a 4 million population island with British and European colonial roots. This place is now China's 8th biggest container port, and is home to some of China's most beautiful beaches.
Gulangyu, a paradise hidden away, accessible only by ferry and where all vehicles are banned. I explored the winding alleyways and beautiful beaches, and ate as much local, freshly-caught oysters as I could.
Dongshandao, we rented electric scooters/e-bikes, rode them down the East coast of China, stopping by at secluded, secret beaches, and then ate at the most idyllic spot I've encountered so far in China. A hidden paradise - night market on the sea-side, China's answer to Greece's Santorini.
Which location did you like best? Would you come and visit Xiamen and the surrounding areas?

XIAMEN CHINA • MUST TRY STREET FOOD
A weekend away to Xiamen, China (from Hong Kong) is only around an hour of a flight away!
While our main purpose of the trip was to visit the UNESCO listed Hakka Walled Villages (Tulou Clusters) located further inland of Fujian province (uploading those videos soon so be sure to subscribe!) we came via Xiamen and had a bit of time to wander around.
In this video, I’ll be sharing the street food we managed to fit in while walking around Xiamen’s Main Street - Zhong Shang Pedestrian Road (中山路步行街) | zhong shan lu bu xing jie).
Located in China’s south east, you’ll find that much of the street food we found in Xiamen had much influence from Taiwanese cuisine - due to the fact that geographically speaking Taiwan is just a bit east of Xiamen.
Asides from food there are other places to visit (like Gulangyu Island) however we didn’t get enough time so hopefully next time!

Night Walk In Xiamen's Famous Night Market | Zengcuoan | 4K HDR | Fujian Province | 福建 | 厦门 | 曾厝垵
A tourist to Xiamen easily realizes he has entered Zengcuoan when walking along the southern coast of the island city.
Although the place is not prominent on the map, Zengcuoan draws seas of tourists with its artistic-style inns, local foods and all sorts of creative products.
Its name literally means the village of the Zeng family. Zengcuoan was just a small fishing village five years ago, but now it is bustling with commerce. Along the many narrow alleys winding up and down, paved with stone, are around 700 shops, restaurants and inns.
In the ancient village with a thousand-year history, each brick forms a painting, each old house implies a history, and each villager represents a fresh memory of Zengcuoan.
Located at the side of Huandao Road, Culture Village of Zengcuoan covers an area of 1.25 square kilometers and is honored as “China’s most artistic fishing village” by tourists from home and abroad.
Surrounded by mountains and the sea with Xiamen University in the neighborhood, Zengcuoan spontaneously established the initial business of Culture Village.
Afterwards, the government stimulated business owners, merchants and youth who love culture and art to negotiate for co-management, thus creating a model of Culture Village of Zengcuoan transformed and upgraded from an “urban village”.
Possessing 5,000 youth who love culture and art, 1,600 stores, 1,600 life attitudes and 1,600 ideas, this small fishing village accommodates a group of talented and creative youth who love culture and art, running fascinating stores which annually attract over 10 million tourists.
These stores have not only boosted urban vitality but also created tremendous social and economic benefits.
The former small fishing village has become a well-deserved Culture Park today.
