THE LONGEST WAY 1.0 - 350 days of hiking through China - TIMELAPSE

In 2008, I walked through China - 1 year, 4500km. I let my hair and my beard grow. This is the resulting video. UPDATE: ▶ I have decided to continue my walk home from China to Germany. I'm currently in Turkey, or about halfway through.I post daily videos on this channel, and I blog about it here:

ABOUT THIS VIDEO:
▶ I didn't finish my original goal of walking to Germany in 2008. Instead, I walked for a year and roughly 4500km, passed the Gobi desert, and then decided to stop walking.
▶ All of the distance from Beijing to Ürümqi was completed solely on foot, straight good old walking. There are instances where you can see me in the video sitting on a plane or riding a boat, but those are during breaks I had to take from walking, either to sort out bureaucracy issues or to take care of some personal things.
▶ I had been planning this trip for over a year before I even started, and getting as far as I got was an experience for which I am very grateful.
▶ Obtaining the necessary visa for a trip like this was not very easy, hence I had to go back to Beijing a few times to resolve some issues.
▶ This is not a strict 1 pic a day video, because I wanted to make it a bit more alive by adding some additional movement. Sometimes during the film you would follow me turn around, or something would happen in the background. I tried to capture these moments to make the video more interesting.
▶ If you liked the music I used in this video, get it here: The Kingpins - L'Aventurier Zhu Fengbo - Olive Tree
▶ The core of this project is in actually my blog where I have posted my extensive travel diary, starting from day 1 (Nov 9th 2007) and describing every single day until the end one year later.

With four side-rooms on the four sides of the main chamber, the tomb has an inner passage of 19.34 meters. From the whole tomb, 231 cultural relics made of gold, silver, copper, iron, jade, animal bone, stone and porcelain as well as 99 bronze chariots, horses and warriors. Among all of these unearthed treasures, it is the bronze galloping horse that is of artistic value most. Liangzhou South Gate & Mingqing Street Night Market, Wuwei City, Gansu, China

Liangzhou South Gate & Mingqing Street Night Market
Liangzhou District, Wuwei City, Gansu, China
2023 May

The south gate of Liangzhou in Wuwei City is also called Zhaowu Gate. It was first built in the Sui Dynasty and rebuilt in the Ming Dynasty. The original gate tower was a hilltop-style building with double eaves and a simple and majestic shape. Whenever the weather is clear and windless, if you climb the tower at night, you can clearly hear the sound of drizzle on the tiles, so it is known as night rain hitting tiles and is one of the eight ancient sceneries in Liangzhou.

The Mingqing Street Night Market is a newly opened night market in 2023 in the downtown of Wuwei next to the South Gate. It gathers a variety of northwest food.

To travel in Xinjiang it may not be the easiest thing lately but in case you make it, you must check out the highlights pointed out in this travel movie. You can start with the walnut museum which is situated at the end of the thousand miles grapes gallery. The longest grape gallery in the world with almost 3km length. After that we went to check the richest stone market in the world (well it's the Nephrite jade market)
Historically, Hotan is the main source of nephrite jade used in ancient China. The light coloured jade is called Mutton fat jade and people from all over China come here...
Nowadays only few kilos of good quality jade are found yearly. Some is still mined in the south, in Kunlun Mountains but it is generally of poorer quality than the one found in the rivers.
Then we asked why those stones are so precious?
To see how much a stone, sorry a Nephrite Jade, could cost, check the end of our movie and you will be amazed or just shocked. Meanwhile take a brake and we introduce you to some of the most delicious local street food you must try when you come to Hotan.
The underground whole roasted lamb & roasted chicken a newer version, it's famous especially for the unique process of pit-cooking. The lambs are usually less than a year old, and their meat it's covered evenly in a blend of special paste, with fine flour, slated water, eggs, curcuma, pepper and cumin powder. The meat is then skewered on a special stick, and lower inside a pit, covered by wood then dirt and left there to roast up for 1-2 hours. When ready the mutton tastes fresh without any sheep odour.
This dish getting its fame throughout the country & even the whole world because of the crisp skin, tender meat and the mouth watering flavour.
Chicken or Lamb? Which one would you like to try? Or which one you think taste better? Leave your comments bellow

Visit the night market where hundred of food stands can satisfy world wide tastes but most special dish you MUST try it is: The roasted goose eggs, nicknamed roasted triple goose yolk. They are an original creation in Hotan, and a sellout here at the night market. Throughout the coin-sized hole the white is drained out, leaving the yolk in the shell, then add two more yolks with honey and saffron. Finally gently place the eggshell on the burning coals for 20 to 30 minutes & done. The timing and temperature are key of this dish.
