Know as Huanghelou in Chinese, this single largest tourist attraction in Wuhan China. The tower is a modern construction built on the site of twelve previous incarnations. It is one of the four great towers in China. Yellow Crane Tower sits atop Snake Hill near the Changjiang Bridge (Number One Yangtze River Bridge). There are two version of story regarding this tower. first version is about a god who drew a crane inside the tower and this entire tower came to life. Second version being a poet Li Bai who wrote a farewell poem to his best friend.

The Wuhan Yangtze Great Bridge commonly known as Wuhan First Yangtze Bridge, is a double-deck road and rail bridge across the Yangtze River in Wuhan Hubei China, in Central China. At its completion in 1957, the bridge was the easternmost crossing of the Yangtze, and was often referred to as the First Bridge of the Yangtze or Number One Yangtze River Bridge. The bridge extends 1.6 kilometers (1 mile) from Turtle Hill in Hanyang, on the northern bank of the Yangtze, to Snake Hill in Wuchang.

Wuhan, the capital city of Hubei Province in central China, is situated on Jianghan Plain, a river-crossed fertile land created by the Hanjiang River joining the Yangtze River.

Wuchang forms part of the urban core of and is one of 13 urban districts of the prefecture-level city of Wuhan, the capital of Hubei Province, China. It is the oldest of the three cities that merged into modern-day Wuhan, and stood on the right (southeastern) bank of the Yangtze River, opposite the mouth of the Han River. The two other cities, Hanyang and Hankou, were on the left (northwestern) bank, separated from each other by the Han River.
The name Wuchang remains in common use for the part of urban Wuhan south of the Yangtze River. Administratively, however, it is split between several districts of the City of Wuhan. The historic center of Wuchang lies within the modern Wuchang District, which has an area of 82.4 square kilometres (31.8 sq mi) and a population of 1,003,400.[4] Other parts of what is colloquially known as Wuchang are within Hongshan District (south and south-east) and Qingshan District (north-east). Presently, on the right bank of the Yangtze, it borders the districts of Qingshan (for a very small section) to the northeast and Hongshan to the east and south; on the opposite bank it borders Jiang'an, Jianghan and Hanyang.
On 10 October 1911, the New Army stationed in the city started the Wuchang Uprising, a turning point of the Xinhai Revolution that overthrew the Qing dynasty and established the Republic of China.

During the 19th century, as a result of concessions granted in the aftermath of the Opium Wars, large areas of Hankou's riverfront were carved up into foreign mercantile divisions with port and rail facilities and the area's economy expanded rapidly. This city has a certain historical charm about it, and has been a key city since the Warring States Period (481–221 BC) due to its location. The people are unusually friendly compared to those in other cities. And, if you have a longer Yangtze cruise, or a north-south train journey, you might really enjoy stopping there.

Wuhan is the capital of Hubei province and is the most populous city in Central China (10 million people). It lies in the eastern Jianghan Plain at the intersection of the middle reaches of the Yangtze and Han rivers. Arising out of the conglomeration of three cities, Wuchang, Hankou, and Hanyang, Wuhan is known as the nine provinces' leading thoroughfare; it is a major transportation hub, with dozens of railways, roads and expressways passing through the city. Because of its key role in domestic transportation, Wuhan was sometimes referred to as the Chicago of China. It is recognized as the political, economic, financial, cultural, educational and transportation center of central China.

In 1861, according to the Treaty of Tianjin signed between China and the UK, the Chinese government was required to open up Hankou as a foreign trade port and establish a customs office. Hankow Customs, located in Hankou, was established in November 1861. This customs building was laid the foundation on the 60th anniversary of the establishment of Hankow Customs and completed in 1924. It was designed and supervised by the British firm Jardine Matheson & Co. Ltd. The 4-story customs building covers an area of 1499 square meters, with a main building of four stories and a height of 45.85 meters, and a clock tower of five stories and a height of 23.1 meters, making it the tallest building in Wuhan at that time. The building is in the Renaissance style, with a three-part composition and an elegant clock tower in the center. The punctual chimes of the clock have always been a part of city life in Wuhan. Since 1924, the Westminster Overture has been played at Hankow Customs. During the Cultural Revolution, it was replaced with The East Is Red, but in 1987, it was changed back to Westminster and has been used ever since.

Wuhan is located in central China at the confluence of the Yangtze and Han rivers. Benefiting from convenient waterway transportation, Wuhan has historically been a prosperous trading port and regional hub, divided into three districts: Wuchang, Hankou, and Hanyang. However, on the other hand, Wuhan has also been hit hard by severe floods multiple times.
Many significant historical events have taken place in Wuhan, the most famous of which is the Wuchang Uprising in 1911. This uprising ended the 2000-year imperial rule and brought profound changes to China's political situation. The starting point of this video is the square commemorating the Wuchang Uprising (please watch another video for a different bus route in Wuhan). Wuhan also briefly served as the capital of China. In 1937, this city was the wartime capital of China for ten months.
Today, Wuhan is a university city with 94 higher education institutions and a total of over one million university students. Wuhan is hot and humid in the summer and is one of the four major furnace cities in China. It has passionate citizens and a rich breakfast culture, and famous local cuisine includes Wuhan hot-dry noodles and tofu skin.

Wuhan in China has become the spotlight of the world this year, and not for good reasons. Before becoming (in)famous as the (most likely) source of the coronavirus, the city was fast becoming a crucial hub in central China’s economy. In recent years it grew into the main industrial and commercial powerhouse of the region, and also became an important link in the domestic high-speed railway network. It is strategically located along the mighty Yangtze river, and is linked to several other major urban areas in the country.
Wuhan is a conglomerate of three independent cities, Wuchang, Hangkou, and Hanyang. It was home to many historical events, and even briefly served as capital of China under the Kuomintang (in 1927). While it doesn’t boast any obvious tourist attractions, the city does have a unique character. Unfortunately, it gained international ‘fame’ as the start of the coronavirus Covid-19 outbreak.
I visited Wuhan twice in the past and found it quite an enjoyable city. It’s obviously massive and suffers from similar problems of other fast growing cities in China, but it’s also quite wide spread. The phenomenal bridges spanning the Yangtze river (from the historic double deck to the eye catching cable-stayed bridges) were probably some of the most striking visual sights I came across.

Streets of Wuhan China - Daily life before the coronavirus changed the city (and the world)
These are images of daily life in Wuhan before the coronavirus engulfed the city. The video includes shots of the Yangtze river waterfront, historic buildings, a ferry service, people living in traditional neighborhoods, modern shopping streets, construction sites, a temple complex, and a food market. They were filmed on my first visit to Wuhan in 2015.
Wuhan in China has become the spotlight of the world this year, and not for good reasons. Before becoming (in)famous as the (most likely) source of the coronavirus, the city was fast becoming a crucial hub in China’s high-speed railway network. In recent years it also grew into the main industrial and commercial powerhouse in central China. It is strategically located along the mighty Yangtze river.
Wuhan is actually a conglomerate of three independent cities, Wuchang, Hangkou, and Hanyang. It was home to many historical events, and even briefly served as capital of China under the Kuomintang (in 1927). While it doesn’t boast any obvious tourist attractions, the city does have a unique character. Unfortunately, it gained international ‘fame’ as the start of the coronavirus Covid-19 outbreak.
