Slovenia: The Dovzan Gorge
The Dovžan Gorge is a gorge carved by the torrential river Tržiška Bistrica into old earth foundations. It was formed in conglomerates, limestones, sandstones and clays. It has the largest waterfall barrier in the quartz conglomerate in Slovenia.
The river statues across a unique waterfall of large, rounded blocks of white quartz conglomerate. The gorge is especially picturesque because of the six tall stone towers, the Kušpegar Belfries, where the climbing area is arranged. The Dovžan Gorge is one of the focal points of the Slovene Geological Transversal. Interesting geological trails, the forest learning trail, a mountain trail, a lookout trail and the way to the Partisan printing technique are through the gorge.
The Palaeozoic rocks of the Dovžan Gorge and the younger, Mesozoic rocks of its wider surroundings are presented in the geological pillar according to the time sequence of their occurrence.
In the small village of Čadovlje stands the old Jamenšnik Farmstead and a “paštba” (flax dryer) dating back to 1766, which is an example of a unique Karavanke building with all ethnographic features. The gorge has been proclaimed a natural monument of Slovenia due to the unique location of the remains of the fossilized life of plants and animals in the rocks of the ancient Palaeozoic. Many species of rhizopods were first found and described. The gorge lies 3 km north of Trzic, on the Tržič-Jelendol road.

Ljubljana Travel Guide - Slovenian Memorable Moments
Ljubljana Travel Guide - Slovenian Memorable Moments
Ljubljana has no world-famous attractions, which is just great: there's no need to hop from one place to another, taking photos and crossing the items on your checklist. You have all the time to stroll around and enjoy the city itself. In the summer, its center hosts a number of city sponsored events, from children workshops and public playgrounds on the streets that get closed for traffic for the occasion, to Trnfest's off-beat street performances and musical events of all genres. In autumn it shows its academic face as it fills again by students of the state's largest university to whom the city owes much of its youthful character. Cold December days are warmed by thousand of lights, the new year's decoration conceived by local artists, and by food and drinks sold from street stands on the banks of Ljubljanica river. After surviving the boring gray remaining of winter, the city erupts again with spring flowers planted on its streets and crossroads.
Ljubljana (lyoob-lyAH-nah) is a charming city full of artists, museums, and galleries. With a population of 300,000, it is one of the smallest capital cities in Europe. The Ljubljanica river flows through the center of town, past Baroque buildings and under the ramparts of the ancient castle on the hill. The new city and modern-day commercial core lies to the west of the river, while the old city and the castle are located on the east side of the river. Many bridges cross the river, the most famous of which is Tromostovje (Triple Bridge), designed by architect Jože Plečnik.
The center of Ljubljana is small enough to cover on foot. You can pick up a free city map at a tourist information center or in the train station. Navigating or finding a street is easy as streets are clearly marked. Bikes are available for rent at the Slovenian Tourist Information Center (beside the Central Market) as well as some of the hotels in the area (€1 for 2 hours, €5 for the whole day ending 7~9pm depending on season). The city's transportation authority LPP operates 26 bus lines, which are clean and run frequently (every 5-10 minutes, 15-30 minutes during the weekend and summer). Most bus routes operate 5am - 10.30pm (Sundays from 6am).
Downtown Ljubljana is full of trendy cafes (outdoor seating in the summer!) and high-quality restaurants. You can find local Slovenian food, and restaurants with ethnic food from many places around the world. Pizza in Ljubljana is of very good quality. Try a burger Slovene style with a horse burger at the Hot Horse! Cheap and good for returning from a night out.
Ljubljana has several good nightclubs (discotheques). The clubs hold special events, they will play a certain syle of music on certain nights, etc. Some will also impose a strict dress code and age limits. Ljubljana offers several hostels and student homes that function as hostels in the summer.

The river transport on the Ljubljanica and the Sava was the main means of cargo transport to and from the city until the mid-19th century, when railroads were built. Today, the Ljubljanica is used by a number of tourist ships, with wharves under the Butchers' Bridge, at Fish Square, at Court Square, at Breg, at the Poljane Embankment, and elsewhere.
( Ljubljana - Slovenia ) is well know as a tourist destination because of the variety of places you can enjoy while you are visiting Ljubljana . Through a series of videos we will try to show you recommended places to visit in Ljubljana - Slovenia

Is THIS The Best Mountain Food in Europe? ???????? Julian Alps of Slovenia
I traveled to the Julijske Alpe (Julian Alps) to try traditional alpine food of Slovenia. Watch me react to dumplings, wild foraged porcini soup and lots of Slovenian cuisine. I road the train to Kranjska Gora and hiked into a mountain hut in the Slovenian Alps. Spoiler: The best goulash was found high in the mountains.
Slovenia's Most Beautiful Wild Animals - Wild Animals Of Europe ????
#slovenia #wildanimals #wildlife #animals
Slovenia's Most Beautiful Wild Animals:
Fox
The fox is widespread in Eurasia, with the exception of India and Indochina, in North Africa and North America. Did you know that the first foxes were imported to Australia around 1850? In Slovenia, it is widespread from the Adriatic coast to the Prekmurje region in the far east of the country. You can meet it in the mountains, near the forest borders.
An adult fox weighs up to 10 kg and despite its short paws, the fox can run for hours and its long jump can be up to 4 meters. The fox is also a fairly good swimmer and climber. On its 500 grams daily menu you can find mostly rodents, but also some rabbits, birds, carrion, fish, frogs, crustaceans, snails, insects, larvae, and fruits. Males are more numerous in the population and foxes’ lifespan is up to twelve years. Its natural enemies are the wolf, the lynx, and the bald eagle.
Alpine ibex
Ibex’s habitat is open rocky areas above the forest border, around 3000 meters altitude. There is no solid evidence to testify to the presence of the native Alpine ibex in Slovenia after the end of the ice ages.
The first ibexes were brought to the Slovenian area by Baron Julius Born between the years 1890–1896. He bought 20 representatives of this wonderful animal in Lausanne for his estate in the Karavanke above Tržič.
According to an estimated count, there are around 300 ibexes living in Slovenia. Did you know that an ibex can jump up to 2 meters high off the spot and up to 4 meters off a run? The lifespan of ibex is up to 17 years. We have almost no natural enemies.
Dormouse
This cute 250-gram animal prefers mixed forests in a karstic underground. Dormouse can be very common in the limestone Alps, the Dinaric Alps mountains and hills, and sub-Mediterranean Slovenia. It often refuges in human dwellings and causes annoying damage in the forest houses.
A dormouse is a nighter and an excellent climber who does not feel very comfortable on the ground. It spends the day sleeping under the ground, in a tree hollow, or a bird nest. It overwinters underground (karst underground, tunnels under the roots of large trees). They start their hibernation with the first frosts and wake up in April. During hibernation, the dormice lose up to 50 percent of their body weight.
Brown bear
A brown bear is the largest European living beast today. The bear is an important European species and is protected by many international conventions. About 50,000 bears live on the Europe territory of which about 1,000 are in Slovenia. The number of bears in Slovenia has been constantly and rapidly growing, especially in the central Slovenia territory including the high karst, and the dense forests with varied and thick vegetation terrain in the Kočevje and Notranjska regions.
A bear needs a wide space to move, has an omnivorous diet, and also tolerates the presence of people which is why it is classified as a vulnerable species. The Slovenian brown bear can grow up to 250 cm in length and a male can reach more than 200 kg in weight. Despite its clumsy appearance, a bear is an excellent runner, swimmer and climber. This giant, who lives up to 35 years, is the most prominent omnivore among Slovenian beasts.
Wolf
The wolf (Canis lupus in Latin) is the largest member of the dog family and an immediate ancestor of the dog. The beginnings of domestication are dating back to the Late Stone Age (Neolithic), about 8000 years ago. According to a theory, people in various parts of the northern hemisphere domesticated local wild dogs – wolves and jackals.
Wolves live in herds with a strictly defined hierarchy. When searching for food, wolves can take up to 70 kilometers journey at a time, and it is known that they can walk a distance of 160 kilometers in one night. The wolf can eat up 10 kilos of food at once, but on the other hand, it can last a long time without it.
Their lifespan is up to 16 years also because of the lack of natural enemies. Although examples of cannibalism are known. Contrary to human belief, they are not dangerous to us. In Slovenia, wolves can be seen in beech and fir forests, which overgrow large mountain areas of the Dinaric karst.
Lynx
Except at the time of mating, a lynx is a loner. This wild cat that can weigh on average up to 25 kilos is a highly specialized predator and hunts from ambush. During hunting, a lynx relies on sight and hearing. In Slovenia, you can find it mostly in the Kočevje region, where they prey on deer, stags, fallow deer, wild boar, chamois, badger, rabbit, wild cat, and domestic animals like dogs, cats, and sheep. 75 percent of its diet consists of deer.

The best sledding track in Slovenia
You can find a hiking guide for every trail we film on our PATREON page:
patreon.com/user?u=86881677
Wow, that was a super fun experience! Sledding always reminds me of my childhood. When I go sledding, I instantly become a child again. We parked the car in the parking lot in front of the Ljubelj tunnel. We went on a one-hour hike along the snowy path to the top of the Stari Ljubelj pass. It used to be the old border crossing with the neighboring country Austria. There is a cozy wooden hut at the top, where we ordered hot tea, ate homemade cookies, and warmed up by the fire. When we started preparing for the sled descent, more and more people started to gather in front of the hut. When we started to descend with the sled, many people had already arrived at the hut. It was Saturday and this sledding trail is very well-known and well-visited. The descent into the valley was super fun, fast, and ‘jumpy’ over the formed humps. An experience that we will definitely try again ????
