In terms of tourism, Shanxi boasts a great number of historical relics and beautiful natural landscapes formed by mountains and waterfalls. Shanxi's existing ancient buildings rank first in the country including temples, ancestral halls, ancient cities, Taoist temples, Shanxi traditional residential courtyards. The majestic Yungang Grottoes which is one of the three largest Buddhist grottos in China and Pingyao Ancient City are most unmissable. And the most popular natural attractions include Taoist shrine Mt. Hengshan and Hukou Waterfalls, Chinese second-largest waterfall.
When to Go:
Being at a high altitude, Shanxi Province has a cold and dry climate and has an annual rainfall of between 400-600 millimeters. The province is also frequently plagued by sandstorms, especially in the spring, so it is often useful to bring along both sunglasses and a hat when visiting. Generally speaking, the province's climate is the best between May and October.
Cities in Shanxi:
Changzhi, Datong, Jincheng, Jinzhong, Linfen, Lvliang, Pingyao, Shuozhou, Taiyuan, Xinzhou, Yangquan, Yuncheng,
What to See:
Shanxi is endowed with an abundance of cultural sites from its long history. Most of the ancient structures were built before the Liao and Song Dynasties. So it is the reason why the place is often called the 'Chinese Ancient Architecture Museum'. The more obvious of these include: the Buddhist wonder of the Yungang Grottoes in Datong City, the Ancient City of Pingyao which was listed as a World Cultural Heritage site by UNESCO in 1997, the oldest and tallest ancient wooden pagoda in China, the Wooden Pagoda of Yingxian County, the remote Shuanglin Temple and Jinci Temple, and a rare multi-functional fortress Zhangbi Ancient Fortress, which are well worth the long journeys for the visitors.
The most famous of them include Mount Wutai with the longest and most prestigious history in the four most well-known Buddhist holy lands of China, the whistling rage of the Yellow River's Kettle Spout waterfalls (Hukou Waterfalls) and one of the Five Sacred Mountains in China - Mt. Hengshan.

10 Best Places to Visit in China - Travel Video
Check out all the places seen in this video:
China, the gateway to East Asia, is a fascinating country. It is an ancient civilization that gave the world Peking Man, gunpowder and noodles. Visitors making their first trip to China usually stick to the larger cities. More experienced visitors to the Middle Kingdom will strike out in other directions, where traveling may be a bit more frustrating because of the language barrier, but most definitely doable for independent travelers. Here’s a look at the best places to visit in China:
Top 10 Places to Visit in China - Travel Documentary
China is one of the most fascinating travel destinations in the world, and in this video I will share with you my personal top 10 best places to visit.
From the ruins of the Great Wall to vibrant megacities. From surreal mountain landscapes to charming riverside villages. Today’s China is a beautiful, complicated, and captivating place.
I spent more than 18 months in China, spread over the course of a decade and a half. In the last years, I started filming the places that I traveled to, using regular cameras and drones. All footage in this travel documentary is shot by myself between 2010 and 2019.
Here's a brief overview of the places in this video.
We start this journey in the stunning riverside village of Fenghuang in central China. The wooden stilt houses are a spectacular sight, and the backstreets are still filled with old world charm. We then continue to Harbin, best known for its Winter tourism. Millions of people usually flock here to visit the amazing Ice and Snow Festival, to admire beautiful sculptures and palaces.
Yangshuo is another spot not to miss, mostly for its mesmerizing mountain landscape of limestone peaks. It’s a great place to witness life in the countryside, and has a relaxed vibe. After Yangshuo we travel to Beijing, the nation’s capital city. The impressive Forbidden City and the Temple of Heaven Park are two main highlights. And the nearby Great Wall of China is truly a sight to behold.
Zhangjiajie is the next destination on my list, and one of China’s most beautiful national parks. It formed the inspiration for the popular movie Avatar. You can get an aerial perspective from the many walkways, and don't miss out on the Glass Bridge here, if you dare at least. I continue my journey to Lhasa, the spiritual heartland of Tibet, and a place that left a deep impression on me. Take into a account that foreign travelers can only visit Tibet as part of a group tour.
Shanghai is a unique city with a jaw-dropping modern skyline, but also has some impressive historic architecture. It’s a busy place to visit, but also has many laidback neighborhoods and quiet streets. Yuanyang, on the other hand, is quintessential rural China, with an epic landscape of rice terraces. It’s a good place to meet some of the minorities living in the South of the country, and eat some local food.
I continue my travels in Qingdao, one of China’s most scenic coastal cities, located on the Yellow Sea. Many Chinese tourists come here to enjoy the beach and eat fresh seafood, but I was particularly impressed by the historic German buildings. I finish this journey in Hong Kong, easily one of my favorite cities in the world, and a perfect fusion between East and West.

山西饭店传统晋菜,平定过油肉,莜面栲栳栳,阿星逛晋商乔家大院Qiao Family Courtyard and Jin Cuisine in Taiyuan, Shanxi
The most famous ones in Shanxi are Shanxi Merchants. In ancient times, Shanxi Merchants accumulated rich wealth by relying on business and trade, and built many representative northern courtyards. Jin merchants of all dynasties have influenced all aspects of Shanxi people's basic necessities of life, especially traditional Jin cuisine, including oily meat that spread along the Silk Road, Youmian Kaolaolao representing reunion and celebration, and the most simple knife-shaved noodle, these form the unique food culture of Shanxi.

???????? 4K walk Taiyuan China | Twin Towers Temple Since 1578 | 山西太原双塔寺
The Twin Towers, in the Yongzuo Temple, at Haozhuang on the eastern outskirts of Taiyuan, are the city’s major symbol and landmark and are unparalleled anywhere across the country.
They were originally known as the Xuanwen Towers, named for the Empress Dowager, Xuanwen (1578), who contributed to their building cost. They were completed in the 40th year of the Wanli emperor, of the Ming (1612), so they have about a 400-year history.
They sit on dry, high land and are built of masonry, 13 stories tall, or 54.7 meters, and are empty inside, with spiral ladders leading to the top and face each other. They have a sound-dampening effect and are virtually thunderstorm-proof. The north tower leans but is solid. When they were built, the master builder, Focheng, who presided over the work, took the steep site and northwest wind into consideration had built the one with a slight westward tilt on purpose. That design has proven itself to be a correct decision for several hundreds of years.

Located at the foot of the Hanging Urn Mountain, southwest of Taiyuan, Shanxi, it is the only precious historical and cultural heritage that integrates ancient Chinese ritual architecture, gardens, sculptures, murals and inscriptions, and is also one of the most glorious and splendid chapters in the world of architecture, gardens and sculptures between the 7th and 12th centuries A.D. It was founded in the 11th century B.C. The Jin Temple was founded in the 11th century B.C. 1500 years ago, in the Water Classic of the Northern Wei Dynasty, it was recorded that the Jin Temple was of considerable scale. It was later expanded and repaired by the Northern Qi, Sui, Tang, Five Dynasties, Song, Jin, Yuan, Ming, Qing and Republican periods, and has become the present size after more than 2,000 years of planning and construction. It was the most flourishing between the 7th and 12th centuries A.D. It is a model of ancient gardens and sculpture art in China's Tang and Song dynasties. The main building, the Hall of Our Lady, in particular, is regarded as the only representative example of architecture typical of the Northern Song Dynasty in the history of ancient Chinese architecture. The Song statues preserved in the Hall of the Virgin Mary break through the pattern of religious statues before the Song Dynasty, and become the portrayal of real people in the society at that time, creating a precedent of realistic works of sculpture art, which is not only the only statue reflecting court figures in the history of Chinese sculpture, but also a rare fine work of artistic excellence in the history of Chinese sculpture.

太原是我的家- 太原府城游|A Walk in Taiyuan, the City Where I was Born and Raised|My Childhood Memory!
My parents, sister and I walked around the old part of Taiyuan city, especially the part where I was born and grew up. All the good memories rush back immediately.
It feels so wonderful to be able to revisit those places with my family. It is one of best day of my life.
Aerial China:Taiyuan Tianlong Mountain Highway, the third floor circles halfway up the mountain
Tianlong Mountain Highway,
The starting point is located on the southwest side of the original highway,
It's 30 kilometers long, with four viaducts and a tunnel along the way,
The difference between the start and the finish is 350 meters,
Seen from above, the road is like a dragon hovering over the mountains,
It is known as the highway on the cloud.
Due to the complex terrain of Tianlong Mountain,
The highway has a vertical drop of 350 meters from the start to the end.
With an average height of three meters for a one-story residential building,
That's the height of a 116-story building, which is a huge difference,
That's why there are so many big bends in this section.
Internet celebrity three-storey Viaduct
The birth is to reduce the height difference, improve driving comfort.
All viaducts are made of steel box girders assembled and welded,
18,000 tons of steel for four viaducts,
Among them, more than 7,000 tons of steel are used for Internet celebrities viaducts.
The steel box girders are prefabricated off-site and assembled on-site,
Use crawler crane and wheel crane to work together.
Not only that, but the road uses a lot of new technology,
Some are even being adopted for the first time in the whole province,
For example, epoxy asphalt is used on elevated roads,
This asphalt binds better to steel beams,
And has very good ductility, can prevent late cracking.
Considering that steel beams are malleable under temperature changes,
The elevated expansion joint also uses a multi-directional displacement comb plate,
Can be compatible with multiple directions of expansion.
