COLOMBIA'S Famous Fishing Village HAS CHANGED! ???????? Santa Marta Travel Guide

Taganga is a popular fishing town in Colombia but is it safe? With tourism things have changed quite a bit. A lot of people have been robbed in Taganga over the years. When I visited 12 years ago backpackers had been robbed by someone with a machete but recently it's become more severe and a tourist was shot.
I wasn't sure if I should go, or recommend it to others but thankfully my hostel in Santa Marta shared that it is safe in the day but best to come back at night. Taganga is just a cheap 10 minute bus ride from Santa Marta so it's a nice day trip to visit the beach or move onto Playa Cristal or Playa Grande.

COLOMBIAN Street Food Tour ???????? in Santa Marta

Colombians love Santa Marta but most gringos skip it and that's a mistake. It's a beautiful city in Colombia with so much fantastic food.

Today I walked around Santa Marta, along the malecon to try fruit juice, then down to the marina to eat the best ceviche and my favourite new Colombian food discovery - Suero. Then I walked around to find cayeye, the most popular Colombian breakfast on the coast. I popped into Plaza San Francisco to try cazuela de mariscos and ended the day with my favourite spot. Arepas de Yiya are famous with locals, so many cars come by picking up take out as soon as it opens at 4pm. I stopped in for the cheesiest arepas and a glass of corn water - I promise it is delicious

COLOMBIANS Told me I HAD TO GO HERE ???????? Minca Colombia

Talk to anyone in Santa Marta about traveling to Minca and they light up. It is their favorite holiday in Colombia because it's not the beach. Instead it's up in the cloud forest just outside Santa Marta, it's remote and you need a 4x4 vehicle to get there but it's absolutely worth it.

You drive up a tropical rainforest in the Sierra Nevada onwards part coffee plantations, farms, cattle and other animals. The roads are bad but locals are accustomed to it. Finally you arrive in cooler, brisk air and stunning views from the Andes.

The El Salvador vlogs continues! I've now moved across to the town of Santa Ana where I'll be for the next few days. How do you afford to travel? - I now earn a full time living through creating these YouTube videos, affiliate links, selling digital products and my clothing line. I used to simply just work any temporary job I could find to save up to travel! I budget the money I earn meticulously to reach my savings goals using
Is travelling solo safe? - I would argue the answer is almost always yes! As long as you use your common sense and you follow your own government's guidelines about travelling in that country. I have made several videos on backpacking safety on my channel.
Do you have plans to settle down? Yes, I'm currently saving to purchase my first property in the UK and I'd love to have children one day. I doubt I'll ever live a completely 'conventional' lifestyle by society's standards though, as I often have my own preferred way of doing things.

Playa Blanca is the most popular day trip from Cartagena. And while it undoubtedly is the most beautiful beach on mainland Colombia, it is also controversial for its well documented scams.
I stayed on Isla Baru, just down the beach from Playa Blanca on Playa Tranquila and was able to see how to beach changed as tourists flooded it each day and have advice on how to avoid scams, the price for things and where to eat the best coastal food.

This CARTAGENA Day Trip Will Change How You See COLOMBIA ???????? Palenque

Cartagena Colombia is beautiful, but this day trip to Palenque the first free town in the Americas for Afro Colombians will change how you see things in Colombia.
San Basilio de Palenque is known to locals as Palenque or Palenge.

Just outside Cartagena is the first ‘free town’ in the Americas. Started by Benkos Biohó who helped Afro Colonbians flee slavery and recapture in Spanish colonial times. This Colombian city has been preserved and is famous for its music, culture, food and a language that is being preserved, which is a unique mix of African as its roots are in slavery combined with French Spanish and Portuguese - the languages of those that enslaved them.

Many tourists in Cartagena have no idea the story of the colourfully dressed women, the Palenqueras, who sell fruit in woven baskets on their head while others sell Colombian sweets like cocadas, caballitos, cheese and pan de coco.

If you want to know more about coastal Colombia and why it's so special this Cartagena tour changed my mind about how we talk about Colombia's history.

Where to Eat in Cartagena | Top 10 Best Restaurants

Cartagena is a vibrant city on the Caribbean coast of Colombia. It has a lot to offer, including a perfectly preserved Old Town, sunny beaches on the Caribbean Sea, and fantastic food and drinks. The mix of Colombian, African, Caribbean, and Spanish influences make this a truly remarkable food destination. Some people define Cartagena as the country's culinary capital, and we find it very hard to disagree!

Famous chefs choose this city to open up new restaurants that combine contemporary and traditional flavors, and talented mixologists in the many bars throughout the city compete to showcase their craft.

Food in Cartagena is not only about eating but the whole experience. Every place we visited not only offered fantastic food but the ambiance and décor of the restaurants were also as refreshing. Although we ate in so many places that we cannot fit within this video, we selected the ones that stood out the most to share with you.

Is PLAYA CRISTAL the most beautiful beach in COLOMBIA? ???????? Santa Marta

When you're in Santa Marta everyone tries to sell a Playa Cristal tour, but is it the best beach in Colombia like everyone says?

It's hard to walk even a block in Santa Marta without someone trying to sell you a tour. Playa Cristal is in Tayrona National Park and you can only get there by boat or hiking there several hours.

There are a number of tour options by either taking a tour which stops at 7 Olas look out for a photo op and then taking a boat there, or going to Taganga by bus and catching a bus from there. Or you can take a boat directly from Santa Marta to Playa Cristal.

I decided to do this as it's the cheapest and fastest way, but is it the best? I spent the day at this beach on my own to check out the beach and local Colombian food.

I ALMOST GOT ROBBED AND SHOT AT IN SANTA MARTA, COLOMBIA

Definitely one of the scariest moments of my life. Colombia is an amazing country, but it does come with many more risks than the average tourist destination. I made this video to be fully transparent of the dangers that possibly come with going here and my personal experience. Overall I've had a great time so far in the country, but this was a terrible experience to go through. Santa Marta is a popular destination for tourists, but just like any of the major cities in the country, there are certain precautions you should take and I hope my story will be helpful for you before considering coming here.

SafetyWing (best for younger travelers + digital nomads):

*I use both of these companies depending on the destination and requirements of entry. If you are going to be abroad for a long time and/or don't need as much coverage, I would recommend SafetyWing. BUT you cannot purchase SafetyWing WHILE in Canada or USA. You can only purchase once already abroad. Hey Mondo is more expensive but offers a higher level of coverage including plans that have trip cancellation/interruption insurance. Hey Mondo would be the better insurance to use if you need travel medical insurance when applying for a visa. Both companies cover covid. I am an affiliate for both companies, but I pay for my own policies.*

Bogota Colombia Malls: Hacienda Santa Barbara Mall and Santa Ana Mall

Bogota Colombia Malls: Hacienda Santa Barbara Mall and Santa Ana Mall are in the Usaquen neighborhood of Bogota Colombia. In this video I take you through both malls and give you my opinions.

This is part of my journey to travel to Mexico and South American. I hope that you will join and follow me while I explore different areas.

The top attractions in beautiful, lively Colombia ????????

Tourism to Colombia has grown exponentially in recent years, with thousands more people flocking to the South American destination after decades of it being practically off limits because of a long, drawn-out civil war.
There are still plenty of less explored natural treasures to discover, from swimming among mangroves by starlight to spotting rare birds in the remote mountains. Colombians also know how to indulge, and a trip during normal times wouldn't be complete without heading to the best food, drink and dancing spots.
International travelers are currently allowed into Colombia with no Covid-19 testing or quarantine requirements. Be aware countries can change their travel protocols and rules with little notice.
