Foshan, China's Stunning Hustling-Bustling Night City Walking Tour | Guangdong Province
Foshan is located in the northern part of the Pearl River, 20 kilometers (12 miles) from Guangzhou, Guangdong Province. The city is made up of five districts: Chancheng, Shunde, Sanshui, Nanhai and Gaoming Districts.
The government seat is located in Chancheng District. It is a vital part of an active economic zone comprising of Guangzhou in the east, and Hong Kong and Macau in the south.
With a long history dating back to approximately 5,000 years, the city gained its name from the three Buddha statues unearthed in this area in the Tang Dynasty (618-907). Having a temperate climate with abundant rainfall, it has been a land of fish and rice. Besides fishing and farming, the local craftsmen were also known for their skills in making ceramics. Thriving handicraft industries, commerce, and the arts made Foshan one of the four most famous towns in Tang and Song (960-1279) dynasties. It has a reputation as the home of Chinese ceramic arts, Cantonese operas and martial arts.
-------------------⭐⭐
Foshan is a modern city. It was one of the earliest ports to engage in foreign trade since China's open door policy. It also has become the third largest city in Guangdong Province, combining its manufacturing industries with tourism. In recent years, Foshan has committed its resources to further expand its vibrant tourism industry.
-------------------⭐⭐
Foshan is located at the hinterland of the Pearl River Delta in the south-central part of Guangdong Province, adjoining Guangzhou on the east. The travelling time between Foshan and Hong Kong or Macao is about two hours.
Foshan has good transport network, with modern air, rail, highways, river and public transportation. There are flights connecting Foshan Airport to cities such as Beijing, Shanghai and Shijiazhuang and there are four lounges in Foshan seamlessly connected with Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport.
A new airport at Gaoming District of Foshan, as one of the backbone airports of Guangdong Province, is being planned. Its design annual passenger throughput is 50 million passenger trips.
Separately, the first section of the Guangzhou-Foshan Line is the first intercity railway of the country. The Guangzhou-Zhuhai intercity railway closely connects Foshan with Guangzhou, Zhongshan, Zhuhai, Hong Kong and Macao.
-------------------⭐⭐
Foshan's economy is manufacturing-based, including industries in which Foshan enjoys strengths such as machinery equipment, household appliances, ceramic building materials, metal processing and metal products, textiles and garments, electronic information, food and beverages, fine chemicals and pharmaceuticals, household goods, etc., as well as emerging industries including optoelectronics, environmental protection, new materials, new medicines, and new energy vehicles.
Foshan has been known as land of fish and rice and is well-known for its fish pond systems with mulberry, banana, and sugarcane on the dyke. Development of modern agriculture, focusing on horticulture, aquaculture, and animal husbandry, has accelerated.
Foshan has the largest plantation base of phalaenopsis in the country and the largest plantation base of high-quality lilies in the province. It is also known as home of eels in China, home of freshwater fish fry in China and home of flowers and trees in China.
Foshan has been one of the cities in the first batch of national demonstration base for agricultural industrialization.

A Flight to Mount Everest + World’s Most Dangerous Airport - Lukla
Our helicopter was one of the first to take off at sunrise around 6:20am from Kathmandu Airport. There are many helicopter operators offering tours to see the majestic mountains in Nepal but there’s only a small window of season to do this. I’d recommend going in April or October when the weather is at its clearest and not so cold.
Lukla is the gateway to Mount Everest. There is no road so no car can get there. A flight to Lukla is 25 minutes on a fixed-wing airplane or 40 mins by helicopter. We arrived there at 7am.
We took off again after refueling and headed to Mt Everest, on the way we passed Namche Bazar, Syangboche airstrip, Khumbu Icefall…
Mount Everest is the one with the sharp peak with snow blowing at the top. We were almost at 20,000 ft but Mt Everest stood really tall from where our helicopter was. We were trying to get up to Camp 2 of Mt Everest which is the absolute limit of the helicopter.
We eventually landed at Kala Patthar. I was so frantically taking photos and videos and started to use the oxygen supply from the helicopter. Our next stop is the pristine Gokyo Lake. On the way, we saw the world’s highest glacier, Khumbu Glacier. It really amazes me how close we fly to those mountain terrains. After a brief stop on the lake, we headed towards the world’s highest hotel, hotel Everest view for breakfast.
The whole trip took about 5 hours. The cost of doing it is about $1200 per person sharing on the helicopter. Helicopters don’t just bring tourists, they also bring cargo and bring down sick and fatigue trekkers from the mountain down on a daily basis.
Way Point of our helicopter flight:
1. Kathmandu (4,390 ft / 1,338m)
2. Lukla (9,380 ft / 2,860m)
3. Namche Bazar (11,290 ft / 3,440m)
4. Syangboche (12,402 ft / 3,780m)
5. Khumbu Icefall (17,999 ft / 5,486m)
6. Mt Everest (29,031 ft / 8,849m)
7. Kala Patthar (18,519 ft / 5,644m)
8. Cho La Pass (17,782 ft / 5,420 m)
9. Gokyo Ri (17,575 ft / 5,357m)
11. Hotel Everest View (12,729ft / 3,880m)
13. Lukla (9,380 ft / 2,860m)
14. Kathmandu (4,390 ft / 1,338m)

Yuyuan Garden ☂ Shanghai China
☂ On a rainy day we visited the Yu or Yuuan Garden. a famous classical Chinese garden located in Anren Jie, Shanghai. The garden was finished in 1577 by a government officer of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) named Pan Yunduan. Yu in Chinese means pleasing and satisfying, and this garden was specially built for Pan's parents as a place for them to enjoy a tranquil and happy time in their old age.
In the 400 years of existence, Yuyuan Garden had undergone many changes. During the late Ming Dynasty, it became somewhat dilapidated with the decline of Pan's family. In 1760, some rich merchants bought it and spent more than 20 years reconstructing the buildings. During the Opium War of the 19th century, it was severely damaged. The garden you see today is the result of a five year restoration project which began in 1956. It was open to the public in September, 1961.
Yuyuan Garden occupies an area of 20,000 square meters (about five acres). However, the small size is not a representative of the attractions of the garden. The pavilions, halls, rockeries, ponds and cloisters all have unique characteristics. There are six main scenic areas here: Sansui Hall, Wanhua Chamber, Dianchun Hall, Huijing Hall, Yuhua Hall and the Inner Garden. Each area features several scenic spots within its borders.

Shanghai's Yuyuan Gardens Tour / 豫园
Yu Garden or Yuyuan Garden / 豫園 / 豫园 (lit. Garden of Happiness) is an extensive Chinese garden located beside the City God Temple in the northeast of the Old City of Shanghai. It abuts the Yuyuan Tourist Mart and is accessible from the Shanghai Metro's Line 10 Yuyuan Garden Station.
A centerpiece is the Exquisite Jade Rock (玉玲珑), a porous 3.3-m, 5-ton boulder. Rumours about its origin include the story that it was meant for the imperial palace in Beijing, but was salvaged after the boat sank off Shanghai.
Yu Garden was first built in 1559 during the Ming Dynasty by Pan Yunduan as a comfort for his father, the minister Pan En, in his old age. Pan Yunduan began the project after failing one of the imperial exams, but his appointment as governor of Sichuan postponed construction for nearly twenty years until 1577. The garden was the largest and most prestigious of its era in Shanghai, but eventually its expense helped ruin the Pans.
The garden was inherited by Zhang Zhaolin, Pan Yunduan's granddaughter's husband, and then passed to different owners. A section was briefly organised by Zhang Shengqu as the Academy of Purity and Harmony (清和书院) and the Ling Yuan (灵苑, lit. Spirit Park), today's East Garden, was purchased by a group of local leaders in 1709. A group of merchants renovated the increasingly decrepit grounds in 1760 and in 1780 the West Garden was opened to the general public.
The gardens suffered damage numerous times during the 19th century. During the First Opium War, the British army used the Huxinting Teahouse as a base of operations for several days in 1842. During the Taiping Rebellion, the Small Swords Society ran its headquarters in the Dianchun Hall; by the time Qing troops recovered the garden, the original structures had nearly all been destroyed. They were damaged again by the Japanese in 1942 before being repaired by Liangshun Han (Rockery Han) appointed by the Shanghai government from 1956 to 1961. They were opened to the public in 1961 and declared a national monument in 1982.
Today, Yu Garden occupies an area of 2 hectares (5 acres), and is divided into six general areas laid out in the Suzhou style:
- Sansui Hall (三穗堂, lit. Three Tassel Hall) – includes the Grand Rockery (大假山), a 12-meter-high rockery made of huangshi stone, featuring peaks, cliffs, winding caves, and gorges. This scenery was possibly created by Zhang Nanyang during the Ming Dynasty.
Wanhua Chamber (万花楼, lit. Chamber of the Ten Thousand Flowers)
- Dianchun Hall (点春堂, lit. Heralding Spring Hall) – built in 1820, the first year of the Daoguang Emperor; served as the base of the Small Swords Society from September 1853 to February 1855
- Huijing Hall (会景楼)
- Yuhua Hall (玉华堂, lit. Jade Magnificence Hall) – furnished with rosewood pieces from the Ming Dynasty, shares its name with a mountain near Xinye in Zhejiang.
- Inner Garden (内园) – rockeries, ponds, pavilions, and towers; first laid out in 1709 and more recently recreated in 1956 by combining its east and west gardens.
Each area is separated from the others by dragon walls with undulating gray tiled ridges, each terminating in a dragon's head.

I flew on Nepal Airlines A330 from Dubai to Kathmandu as the beginning of my flying adventure in the Himalayas.
I met Captain Vijay Lama onboard, he is a local celebrity and YouTuber in Nepal. The flight time to Kathmandu was 4 hours across the Indian subcontinent. Shortly after takeoff, a beautiful sunrise appeared as we fly to the East. Nepal Airlines crew showed me their uniform and food offering on the flight.
The weather was good enroute. Before landing, many tall mountains appeared on the horizon. 8 of the world’s top 10 highest peaks are in Nepal. We can see Dhaulagiri, Annapurna, Fishtail, Manaslu, and many tall mountain peaks. The landing into Kathmandu is very exciting with mountains and high terrain around. Watch the final approach from the cockpit.
Next week, I will share my experience flying to Mount Everest by helicopter. This is a once-a-lifetime experience.

The Sanya EDITION is a new unique destination offering unexpected experiences and delivering simple sophistication to the next generation of luxury travelers. Water, a source of both vitality and serenity, defines the lush 50-acre property, which features a spectacular private ocean. Here, gondolas transport guests to an extraordinary floating restaurant, and families enjoy beach-side cafes and cabanas. A sense of luxurious tranquility is established in the reception area. A pool and live bamboo grove serve as a counterpoint to a curated art gallery displaying renowned artists' work. All 500+ guestrooms have ocean views, as do the collection of villas perched on a terraced hillside. The separation between outside and inside at the meeting center disappears with teak-floored rooms and louvered wood panel walls opening onto a sunken courtyard and garden area.
All of the 506 guest rooms in the horseshoe-shaped hotel have ocean views. The warm and inviting interiors exude a comfortable, simple sophistication, using light oak finishes and airy fabrics that evoke the beach. Surrounded by views, bathtubs are positioned in the main room, making the space even more luxurious and open.
Restaurants & Bars - ''Market at EDITION'' - All-day dining destination, Market at EDITION references Sanya's history as a trading port at the southernmost tip of China on the ancient maritime Silk Road. The timeless design evokes an old Chinese warehouse where guests congregate for breakfast and enjoy a vibrant marketplace atmosphere. Market at EDITION features a series of food stations offering the finest selections of local and international cuisine, including a raw bar, Asian noodle dumpling station, bakery kitchen, hot kitchen with open fire grill, wok cooking and Dim Sum steamer, a juice bar, and a grab and go counter. Xianhai by the Sea - The custom-designed spaces, with teak interior and rich upholstery, are covered with a shade canopy, and from afar, the restaurant appears to be a collection of glowing lanterns skimming the water. Served in various culinary expressions, guests will enjoy upscale fine dining indoor a la carte, an outdoor alfresco, or a private dining room.
The Jade Egret - At ocean level, The Jade Egret offers modern European cuisine, pre-dinner cocktails, and small plates in a yacht-inspired space. The restaurant offers the opportunity for a sophisticated and social exploration of flavor that encourages guests to customize their dining experience. Beach Barbacoa - Share A seafood grill inspired by the Jimbaran Bay in Bali. With sand underfoot and an eclectic mix of furnishings, it's a lively and fun spot for all ages. Dine-in barefoot luxury under starry skies or take in the enchanting views as the sun sets into the sea. Situated in comfortable outdoor cabanas on the sand, the romantic setting features lanterns hung on the trees, festoon lighting, and outdoor fire-pits. A custom-designed display kitchen features an open grill and kitchen counter clad with Hainan brownish, grey lava stone in a natural finish. The outdoor dining area is surrounded by a lush landscape shaded by willow trees and highlighted by white canvas canopies supported by bamboo poles, an eclectic mix of furniture, hammocks, and teak lounge chairs surrounding a bonfire pit.
''Rooftop Bar'' - Located at the hotel's highest point, facing the South China Sea, the rooftop pool, bar, and lounge provides a sophisticated adult pool and relaxation area. The space is a relaxing hideout during the day and transitions at night with cocktails, appetizers, and a rotating calendar of high-profile DJ's performing throughout the week. Pool Bar - The Pool Bar is an open architectural pavilion with vertical aluminum-wood slats covered with a flowering vine, ivy, and lush green hedges in planters. During the day, the horizontal flat roof overhanging the structure provides a shaded semi-outdoor lounging area. At night, it is dramatically lit from below with underwater pool lighting fixtures. Oversized daybeds and chaise lounges offer plush relaxation arranged around the pool on the tropical hardwood decking with shade provided by 12 foot high Plumeria specimen trees and outdoor umbrellas.
