Bogotá ( is the capital of Colombia and is a very large city with many things to do, but there are even more things to do around Bogotá. There are several towns to spend a weekend of relaxation or adventure.
To the north of Bogotá in a one-hour tour you can visit the Salt Cathedral of Zipaquirá ( where you can take a tour of the mine and get to know one of the most notable architectural and artistic achievements of Colombian architecture, considered the number one wonder of Colombia ( You can also enjoy a night of partying at Andrés Carne de Res in Chia ( a large restaurant and nightclub on the outskirts of Bogotá. An hour and a half from Bogotá is the Laguna de Guatavita ( a place that tells the story of El Dorado, a lagoon full of gold.
For extreme activities, you can visit Suesca ( Other places located north of Bogotá are the Puente de Boyacá ( and Villa de Leyva (
To the east of Bogotá, you can enjoy a pleasant afternoon at La Calera ( a place recognized for the large number of restaurants it has and activities such as horse riding. Also, 45 minutes from Bogotá you can visit the highest waterfall in Colombia La Chorrera ( or the hot springs of Choachí ( To the east of Bogotá is also the Chingaza National Park ( perfect for enjoying a day of nature.
To the south you find the Paramo de Sumapaz ( and the Tequendama Falls ( To the west you can go to San Francisco ( Villeta ( Guaduas ( and Honda (

Bogota is... much better than I expected!

This is one of my Bogota walking tours in 2022. This is La Calera Bogota Colombia. If you want to come street backpacking around here, please dress like you are going to go skiing, no joke, at night, if feels like you are on the slop. My responsibility as a travel vlogger, is to give you all the information I can about a specific area, good and bad.
This area is safe to travel. However, it only takes one jack ass with a gun to rob someone, so I always say be careful everywhere you are and know surroundings. I travel throughout Bogota solo, with that said, when I have a chance, I will always roll with others. This not only is more fun, but increases safety, no matter who you are will the more people the safer. Please remember that. As a travel guide, having people with you can also help since they can point out some good stuff for me to video and show you as well.

Recorrido en motocicleta bajando por la Calera, tomando la carrera 3, pasando a la calle 91 realizamos dos paradas en los miradores que las personas han hecho para observar a Bogotá desde lo alto, continuamos el recorrido por la Transversal 5, luego por la Avenida Circunvalar, tomando la carrera 1 hasta llegar al semáforo de la calle 76a en Bogotá en Cundinamarca Colombia, incluido el mapa del recorrido en Google Maps.

Geheimtipp Kolumbien: La Calera - Bogota´s beste Aussicht
Ein kleines Video über mein Lieblingsort La Calera. Einfach zugänglich mit dem Taxi, Bus oder Auto. Egal um welche Uhrzeit
hier gibt es immer Polizei die das geschehen bewacht.
Der beste Mirador (Aussichtspunkt) ist der Km4 (kilometro 4).
Im Video habe ich gesagt es gibt 3 Aussichtspunkte eigentlich ja aber eigentlich sind es 2 wovon der Erste gesperrt ist. Aber im Grunde gibt es auf dem Weg hoch mehrere Punkte von denen man eine gute Aussicht genießen kann. Ziemlich schwierig zu erklären.
Es gibt zwar noch den Monserrate oder Virgen de Guadalupe (der höchste) aber entweder ist erster einfach schon zu kommerzielle und zeitlich begrenzt und letzter genannter einfach nicht wirklich sicher. Obwohl die Virgen de Guadalupe schon der Hammer ist unter allen Aussichtspunkten.
Wenn ihr aber das rundum Sorglos Paket haben wollt, dann empfehle ich euch die La Calera.
Gerade wenn ihr ein romatisches Date wollt oder einfach mal etwas trinken und einer super Aussicht. Die meisten Restaurants haben eine Glasfassade auf der Rückseite also kann man die Aussicht genießen und für die Kälte gibt es dann auch Kamin und heiße Getränke.
Wer ein typisch kolumbianischen Plan sucht, der kommt hier auf seine Kosten. Absolut Empfehlenswert!

About 45 minutes from Bogota, on the road to La Calera, you will find one of the most peaceful places for birdwatching. In the observatory, you can watch more than 30 species of birds for 3 hours or all day long, where a large number of hummingbirds present stands out.
Some of the species found in this location are the sword-billed hummingbird (Ensifera ensifera), the black-tailed trainbearer (Lesbia victoriae), and the glowing puffleg (Eriocnemis vestita).

Hummingbirds of Colombia at Observatorio de Colibríes in La Calera
I visited the Observatorio de Colibríes in La Calera, Colombia in November, 2019 to photograph their beautiful hummingbirds. Flowers, feeders and lots of hummingbirds make this place a birder's delight. New species for me were the Glowing Puffleg and the Blue-throated Starfrontlet. I also saw the stunning Green-tailed Trainbearer and the White-bellied Woodstar.
