If yes I share with you the best way to plan your trip and all the alternatives you have plus few tips to make your trip smooth and unforgettable. Travel in Xinjiang province could be tricky many times especially the actual status of the province, and a little bit more tense, but between all those tensions you still could do some great exploration around the city and the area by mainly experiencing 3 things. To travel in Xinjiang it may not be the easiest thing lately but in case you make it, you must check out the highlights pointed out in this travel movie. You can start with the walnut museum which is situated at the end of the thousand miles grapes gallery. The longest grape gallery in the world with almost 3km length. It is located in the west, on 629 national road at the exit of Hotan city towards BageQi district (the old Hotan area) and it is a blast for those who love photography, walnuts and grapes of course.

After that we went to check the richest stone market in the world (well it's the Nephrite jade market)
Historically, Hotan is the main source of nephrite jade used in ancient China. The light coloured jade is called Mutton fat jade and people from all over China come here...
Nowadays only few kilos of good quality jade are found yearly. Some is still mined in the south, in Kunlun Mountains but it is generally of poorer quality than the one found in the rivers.
Then we asked why those stones are so precious?
To see how much a stone, sorry a Nephrite Jade, could cost, check the end of our movie and you will be amazed or just shocked. Meanwhile take a brake and we introduce you to some of the most delicious local street food you must try when you come to Hotan.
The underground whole roasted lamb & roasted chicken a newer version, it's famous especially for the unique process of pit-cooking. The lambs are usually less than a year old, and their meat it's covered evenly in a blend of special paste, with fine flour, slated water, eggs, curcuma, pepper and cumin powder. The meat is then skewered on a special stick, and lower inside a pit, covered by wood then dirt and left there to roast up for 1-2 hours. When ready the mutton tastes fresh without any sheep odour.
This dish getting its fame throughout the country & even the whole world because of the crisp skin, tender meat and the mouth watering flavour.

Visit the night market where hundred of food stands can satisfy world wide tastes but most special dish you MUST try it is: The roasted goose eggs, nicknamed roasted triple goose yolk. They are an original creation in Hotan, and a sellout here at the night market. Throughout the coin-sized hole the white is drained out, leaving the yolk in the shell, then add two more yolks with honey and saffron. Finally gently place the eggshell on the burning coals for 20 to 30 minutes & done. The timing and temperature are key of this dish.

Baghchi Town is 10 kilometers away from Hotan City. Most of the residents here are Uighurs. you can see many local shops on the streets. The mutton skewers at Maimaiti Barbeque Restaurant are very delicious, the baked buns and nang are freshly made.

The Yotkan Town was built in Baghchi Town, 5 kilometers away from the Yotkan site, covering an area of 156 acres, with a construction area of about 70,000 square meters, and a total investment of 600 million yuan. Through the layout of performing arts performances, food streets, B&B hotels, handicraft workshops, cultural exhibition halls and other scene formats, the grand scene of ancient Khotan on the Silk Road is reproduced through cultural empowerment and panoramic interpretation of modern technology.
The Yotkan Town is a red square city with the main entrance facing south and the inscription Yuxuan Gate. There are two happy lions in front of the gate. Inside the city are white houses, mainly Ayiwang residences, with gorgeous roofs and blue doors and windows. According to Kang Yongjun, chief designer of the cultural tourism project of Yotkan Town, the architectural style of the town was designed based on a mural from the capital of the Khotan Kingdom around the 10th century preserved in the mural in Cave 454 in Dunhuang. There are Xuanzang Square, Banchao Bronze Statue, Bowang Street, Sumi Castle, Qifeng Pagoda and other buildings in the city, as well as houses surrounded by willow branches and walls.
Yotkan was the capital of the ancient Khotan Kingdom, the thirty-six kingdoms in the ancient Western Regions. The ancient Kingdom of Khotan was an ancient Buddhist kingdom in the Western Regions and one of the four towns in Anxi, the Protectorate of Anxi in the Tang Dynasty of China. After the Han, Wei, Jin, Southern and Northern Dynasties, and then the Sui, Tang and Five Dynasties, it still had a strong influence in the Northern Song Dynasty. This dynasty lasted for 13 centuries and was the longest vassal dynasty in Chinese history. It was also a miracle in the history of the world.
The theme of the daytime performance in Yotkan Ancient City is called Hundred Operas in Ten Directions, which displays Sogdian caravans, various folk styles and other market customs. The theme of the night performance is Stories of the Ancient City, which mainly reproduces the prosperous scene of the Kingdom of Khotan. Visitors feel as if they have traveled through a thousand years of time and space, immersing themselves in the prosperous scenery of the Silk Road Western Regions One step, one scene.

Hotan District, one of the five districts of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, is located in Hotan City. Located in the southern corner of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, the center is located at 79.92°E, 37.12°N, south of the Kunlun Mountains and the border with the Tibet Autonomous Region, north of the Taklamakan Desert and Aksu connected, east of the Bayingoleng Mongol Autonomous Prefecture, adjacent to the Kashgar region in the west, southwest of the Karakorum Mountains as the border with Kashmir, east-west length of about 670 km, north-south width of about 570 It has a total area of 248,100 square kilometers. According to the data of the seventh census, the resident population of Hotan was 2,504,718 as of November 1, 2020.
Hotan region is a typical inland arid zone, located in the hinterland of Eurasian continent, with an arid desert climate, 36 large and small rivers in its territory, a region rich in light energy resources in China, rich in mineral resources in its territory, famous for producing Hotan jade, and famous as the hometown of jade, silk, carpet and melons and fruits.
Hotan is a multi-ethnic region with Uyghur as the main ethnic group, mainly consisting of 22 ethnic groups, including Uyghur, Han, Hui, Kazakh and Kirgiz; there are tourist attractions such as Nia Ruins, the ancient city of Akspili, the ancient city of Buylik Awati, the ancient city of Kharadun, the ancient city of Andir, the ancient castle of Asa and the ruins of Yotegan in the territory.
