Kyrgyzstan ???????? The road to Issyk-Kul and the huge Asian Bazaar in Cholpon-Ata. Part 1

Hello my friends, in today's video I will show you the second-largest mountain lake in the world after Lake Titicaca in South America, the second-largest saline lake after the Caspian Sea in Central Asia. It is also the seventh-deepest and the tenth-largest lake in the world by volume. This is all Issyk-Kul - the mountain pearl of Kyrgyzstan, the largest closed-lake in the country, the pride of the locals and a favorite tourist destination.

I will also tell you a lot of interesting things about the lake, the main tourist city of Cholpon-Ata, with it's beautiful mountain view, long sandy beaches and the amazing people who live there. I will visit the old Central Asian bazaar in the city where you can buy whatever you want from souvenirs to traditional nomad clothes and where you will immerse yourself in the Kyrgyz culture and its hospitality. And of course, I'll definitely try the delicious local cuisine and swim in the lake with crystal clear water.

Cholpon-Ata - Kyrgyzstan 4K Travel Channel

Two and a half hours after our departure from Jyrgalan we reach the 180 km remote Cholpon-Ata. We start our discovery tour with a visit to the multifunctional open-air museum Ruh Ordo. Each of the five chapels on the site symbolizes a religion: Islam, Catholic, Christian Orthodox, Buddhism, and Judaism. These are supposed to stand for peace and remind that all religions have one God.
The complex is dedicated to the world-famous Kyrgyz writer Chinghiz Aitmatov. Besides his novel characters, a lot of nicely designed sculptures adorn the lawns between various halls. They represent real as well as mythical persons. In addition, many objects of Kyrgyz culture are on display. Aitmatov lifelong advocated a peace-loving nature-loving culture. You can see his work in one of the halls.
On the shore is a footbridge with four platforms, symbolizing four seasons and the four directions of a compass.
But there is also a hall that is beyond our understanding. It has a large empty pool inside. In the evening the area is beautifully illuminated. It is also a venue for concerts and events. The well maintained open-air museum Ruh Ordo conveys artistic charm.
After our tour, we drive one bathing beach near and start a sightseeing flight with the drone at the western shore of the bay.
Beside the center with the open air museum Ruh Ordo we can recognize the stadium of the World Nomad Games.
Marvelous beaches and dune landscapes wind along the shore of the Issyk-Kul. The beautiful color shades of the water near the shore appear almost like a painting. Everywhere is vibrant life and some beach visitors let themselves be pulled into the air by motor boats with parachutes.
Another highlight in Cholpon-Ata are the numerous fields of petroglyphs that stretch between the village and the mountains.

From Cholpon-Ata back to Bishkek - Kygyzstan 4K Travel Channel

The sun slowly sinks at the horizon. We still have approx. 270 km in front of us when we leave Cholpon-Ata, a place we liked very much. The road is now very well developed so that we make fast progress. Along the northern shore of the Issyk-Kul, we always see the 7000 m high mountain range of the Tian Shan. In Balyktschy, on the western shore of the lake, we come to the road which we took before we turned to the south shore of Issyk-Kul.
With the setting sun, we cross the Kyrgyz mountains along the Chuy River. Afterward, the road leads again along the border to Kazakhstan in western direction.
In Keng-Bulun we stop at the Adventure Restaurant Hawaii. Colorful lights decorate artificial palm trees, and many people are dancing. Old cars and a helicopter serve as photo motif and scenery. On a lake, there are small boats where you can also eat. But because of the advanced hour, we prefer a fixed place in the restaurant.
Already in the dark, we drive the remaining 60 km to Bishkek. Sergej had an extremely exhausting day as a driver, and he did a fantastic job.

Kyrgyzstan is a gorgeous country. Especially when the world's second highest lake, Lake Issyk Kul is located to the north of the country.

In this video, First World Traveller has a beach holiday in Bosteri, on the north shore of Lake Issyk Kul, east of Cholpon-Ata, about 6 hours drive from Bishkek on a Marshrutka. Check out my Airbnb nightmare from hell!

Bosteri is very much a tourist area, primarily frequented by Russian tourists. You can swim in the lake! Although it can be cold even in Summer! A great thing about this area is that you have Lake Issyk Kul on one side and the mountains on the other! Fantastic!

Are you heading to Kyrgyzstan? Planning a Kyrgyzstan Trip in 2017? This video is Part 3 of First World Traveller's Kyrgyzstan series, this time heading to Kochkor, a small town approx 3 hours south of Bishkek.

In terms of Things to Do, there isn't a lot, however Kochkor is a great stop off to experience small town Kyrgyzstan life on the way to Cholpon-Ata, Bosteri & Lake Issyk Kul.

In this video I go for a walk to discover yet more amazing scenery, mountains, rivers, and also discover something great in that the local children will always run up to you to say hello and practise their English!

I then head towards Lake Issyk Kul where I am reminded why I rarely use Airbnb to find accommodation! Check out what happens in the episode!
