St. Lucia Travel Guide - Must-See Attractions

St. Lucia is a sovereign island country in the eastern Caribbean Sea on the boundary with the Atlantic Ocean. Part of the Lesser Antilles, it is located north/northeast of the island of Saint Vincent, northwest of Barbados and south of Martinique.
The most important places to visit in St. Lucia are: St Lucia Volcano (is the only drive-in volcano in the world. There are several pots of boiling water that are above the normal boiling point and many colors at the surface as a result of sulfur, iron, calcium oxide, copper oxide, magnesium, carbon and other mineral deposited there), St. Lucia Beaches (there are several magnificent beaches in St Lucia. All you have to do sometimes is bring along your snorkel gear, play a few games or pull out a beach chair and frolic in the sun), St Lucia Hiking (you will have the opportunity to see the national bird, a breath taking view of the tallest mountain in St Lucia, mount Gimie and the forestry reserves) and many more.
This video offers a lot of tips to help you plan the perfect vacation. If you want to save time and money, the most important St. Lucia travel tip is to compare prices before booking a hotel room or a flight. You can do this for free on a site that searches through hundreds of other travel websites in real time for the best travel deals available.

10 Exciting Things to Do While in Martinique

Get more Tips here!

In the eastern Caribbean, you’ll find Martinique. You’ll find no shortage of pristine beaches, delicious French cuisine, and rugged scenery. If you’ll be heading out to this region, here are 12 exciting things to place on your to-do list.

1. Shop In Pointe du Bout
This resort region has streets lined with ice cream shops, cafés, and restaurants. When you’re done shopping, a ferry service can whisk you away across the bay to Anse Mitan where you can enjoy a drink, snorkel, or just soak up the sun.

2. Dive Off Diamond Rock
It is a volcanic mound that’s one of the best diving sites in Martinique. The rock is also known for its deep underwater caves and the abundance of fish, corals, and sponges that can be found beneath the water.

3. See the Black Sand Beach at Grand-Rivière
The black sand of this small fishing village is definitely a sight to be seen! This area is also full of charming seafood restaurants, as well as hiking trails for you to burn off those extra calories when you’re all done.

4. Shop for Herbs at the Grand Marche
Also known as the Spice Market, Grand Marche is the place to visit to find regional herbs you can’t find back at home. From from dried bois bandé, jerk seasoning, and the freshest cinnamon, you’ll definitely be in herb heaven (herb-en)!

5. Explore the History of Saint-Pierre
Saint-Pierre was the cultural center of Martinique up until Mount Pelée erupted and destroyed the town back in 1902. Nowadays, many of the ruins can still be viewed, like the old theater, and a row of single story houses.

6. Tour Musée de la Pagerie
Napoleon’s wife Josephine, was born in this Museum. This stone cottage has been restored and now includes some of her personal property, including love letters from the French Emperor and childhood artifacts.

7. Explore Gorges de la Falaise
This hike up will lead you to dazzling waterfalls and sparkling rivers that are great for swimming. Surrounded by thick forests, this is one of the most picturesque areas in all of Martinique.

8. Hike Through Caravelle Peninsula
Nature lovers can wander their way through rugged terrain next to the gorgeous coastline and the beautiful forest. At the end of the trail, you’ll find Tartane – a small beach known for having the best swells in Martinique.

9. Listen to Music at Le Carbet
This is said to be the landing site of Christopher Columbus back in 1502. Today, it’s a beachside venue where musicians can perform their songs for visitors and the locals. Enjoy the sunset while the music plays in the background!

10. Sip a Cocktail at Les Salines
These white sand beaches are located at the southern tip of Martinique. There’s no shortage of things to do here, from swimming to snorkeling. If you’re looking for some R&R, grab a rum punch, pull up a beach chair, and unwind!

World most beautiful places - Saint Lucia - Caribbean

Believe it or not, but the nicest beaches and secret spots of the Caribbean are in Saint Lucia. For those of you who need to see it to believe it, I made a video of the world most beautiful places in Saint Lucia, Carribean.

Caribbean | Windward Islands | St Lucia (Helen of the West Indies)

St Lucia was the 5th port of call on the Southern Caribbean cruise aboard Carnival Glory.. The island's beauty has earned it the nickname Helen of the West Indies and I would consider this to be one of my favourite islands that we visited on our cruise.

The island is quite mountainous, owing to its volcanic features in particular the two peaks that rise from the sea- Gros Piton and Petit Piton (2,619ft and 2,461ft respectively).

St Lucia is still geologically active and boasts the world's only 'Drive-in' Volcano at La Soufriere, also known as the Sulphur Springs due to the multitude of thermal springs in the area- some are far to hot to bathe in, however nearby there is a bath house whereby the natural springs are at a more tolerable level, in addition you can also take a hot mud bath.

The beaches are not the usual crisp white sand you see in other Caribbean islands, but has more of a darker shade (black in places) due to the sand being based on volcanic rock.

To get around the can take quite some time despite its size as alot of the main roads circumnavigate the island, and to travel in land the roads are often quite steep and twisty due to the terrain. This can lead to some unexpected, spectacular views at times.

The island is mostly covered by a rich rain forrest, and due to the rainfall and fertile soil there is a large variety of plants and fruits that are grown on the island.

We did not book one of the Carnival excursions as the trips were too short and could not be combined to see what we wanted to see due to timings. Instead we booked a Scenic Tour of Sourfrier privately. On the day we had the advantage of having the entire minivan to ourselves as no-one else was booked on the tour, so in effect we had a 'private tour' as opposed to be herded round in large groups (of people I often find loud/annoying) as is normally the case on the cruise ship organised tours. Our driver 'Shan' was amazing and given the fact that we were the only people on the tour, also meant that we had individual tours at each of the destinations along with being able to spend more time in places to look around etc. He carried a cool box in the minivan which had complimentary refreshments for the day. While driving round Shan was fully of interesting insights relating to St Lucia and was happy to answer any questions. It all made for a very enjoyable day and to be honest I was sad to leave as I genuinely liked St Lucia as the people are warm and friendly and when walking around, you do not get harrassed by vendors as is normally the case with other Caribbean islands. It was a very relaxing place and definetly one I would return to for a longer stay.

During our time on St Lucia we were able to see:

- The Pitons (from a distance, as climbing them takes some experience)

- Toraille Waterfall (You can swim in the plunge pool - but the water is very cold!)

- Diamond Waterfall and Botanical Garden - Originally a sugar plantation, it has been transformed into a diverse botanical garden with fruits, nuts, flowers and trees from around the world growing here. There are independent tour guides who will take you on a tour of the garders our's (Alexander) was very knowledgeable and an interesting character! We had a lot of fun! There is also a natural spring bath here which is available for a small charge.

St Lucia has a mixture of French and British influences as it was fought for on many occasions in the past before finally becoming a British colony; though now independent since 22nd February 1979, it is still a member of the Commonwealth of Nations associated with the UK.

Napoleon Bonaparte's first wife, Josephine de Beauharnais was from St Lucia.

Castries, Saint Lucia (HD)

Travel Videos HD, World Travel Guide
Castries is the capital city of Saint Lucia. Founded by the French in 1650, Castries now has a population of just over 11,000.

Of itself, Castries doesn't have a huge amount to offer visitors, and it's usually just a place that you'll pass through on your way to the more obvious attractions of Saint Lucia.

Even though Castries doesn't have much to offer, you can usually find a fair number of tourists wandering about the place, as the cruise ships that visit Saint Lucia dock at Pointe Seraphine, in the northern part of the city.

There is a tourist information office, a 15 minute walk from the town centre in the cruise ship dock at Pointe Seraphine.

Free maps are available from the information desk in the La Place Carenage mall on Jeremie Street, just along from the St.Lucia Fire Service building.

Do in Castries, Saint Lucia
=================
1 - wander around the lively local market on Jeremie Street.

2 - visit the viewing point over the harbour, at Morne Fortune, just below Government House.

3 - relax in Derek Walcott Square.

4 - top up your suntan on Vigie beach.

Tourism in Castries, Saint Lucia
=================
One of the major tourist areas in St. Lucia, Castries is a port of call for cruise ships. They dock at Pointe Seraphine, to the north of the harbour, which is also a duty-free shopping centre. A taxi service is readily available to take visitors on tours of the rest of the country or the city. A water taxi takes passengers from there to the city. The greatest concentration of hotels, resorts, and restaurants are near Castries and the island's other main towns: Gros Islet, Soufrière, and Rodney Bay. The city maintains three tourist offices and one at the airport. There are many duty-free shops, several restaurants, and other eating establishments, including Burger King, Domino's pizza, and KFC.

Castries has landmarks, such as the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Derek Walcott Square (renamed from Columbus Square to honor the island's Nobel Prize-winning poet, Derek Walcott), the City Library, the Government House, and Fort Charlotte, at the top of Morne Fortune (an 845-foot or 258 m hill). Beaches are a major draw for tourists, and there are several in or very near Castries. Vigie Beach, Malabar Beach, Choc Beach, and La Toc Beach are all within easy reach.
