The 10 Most Beautiful Places to Visit in Italy.
It’s amazing how many Italians don’t go abroad for their holidays. When I taught English in Rome I used to ask my students why they didn’t visit other countries. They simply replied: “Why would we? We have incredible culture, some of the best beaches in Europe and mountains to go skiing in the winter!” Italy is undoubtedly beautiful and I feel privileged to have spent three years of my life there. It’s a unique country where you are just as likely to find beauty in a quiet cobbled backstreet or a traditional trattoria than in its stunning beaches or extraordinary countryside. Using my experience of living in Italy I have compiled a list of ten places I feel are worth visiting. Some will be obvious, others maybe not so. Here is my personal list of 10 of the most beautiful places to visit in Italy…
Venice
Cinque Terre
Bologna
Florence and the Tuscany region
Rome
Sorrento & The Amalfi Coast
Sardinia
Puglia
Sicily

Visit Italy - The DON'Ts of Visiting Italy

Read the Blog on What Tourists Should Not Do When They Visit Italy:
GRAB A WOLTERS WORLD SHIRT
What You Shouldn't Do When You Are in Italy
Visiting Italy is an amazing experience whether you are seeing the Roman ruins throughout the country in places like Rome or Naples, but for all the amazing things you should do in Italy (visit Venice, Florence, Rome, Ravenna, Amalfi Coast, eat until you explode) there are things you DON'T DO when you come to Italy & Here are our 12 things NOT TO DO in Italy when you are traveling Italy.
Filmed in Vicenza, Italy
Copyright Mark Wolters 2016

The Don'ts of Italy
1. Don't expect to get discount prices on fancy Italian luxury brands.

2. Don't eat near tourist sights. You will be ripped off and not get as good of Italian food as you would away from the tourist sights.

3. Don't Tip. They already charge you for service.
4. You Don't have to scream louder to get people to understand you.
5. Don't worry about overdressing, the Italians will always look better than you.
6. Don't just visit Rome and Venice, there is so much more to Italy.
7. Don't share your pizza and make sure you do eat it with your fork and knife.
8. Don't use the fast trains for short distances, they are not worth the significantly higher prices.
9. Don't expect to see spaghetti and meatballs on the menu TOGETHER. They will be there separately, but not together.
10. Don't expect a big breakfast in Italy. Just coffee and a cookie.
11. Don't overpack. You will be limited on space when traveling in Italy so pack accordingly.
12. Don't expect to be served food in a restaurant between 3pm and 7pm.

TOP 10 MUST VISIT PLACES IN ITALY FOR NATURE LOVERS

TOP 10 MUST VISIT PLACES IN ITALY FOR NATURE LOVERS

Whenever somebody talks about Italy, it’s always about Rome, Milan, Cinque Terre, Florence… The list can go on and on and it’s mostly cities included. However, Italy is a country that can fascinate its tourists with its natural landscape, just as much as with its vibrant city life.

A huge number of lakes, mountains, woodlands and beaches is something you can see all throughout Italy. But, no matter in which region you are, you will find a natural wonder that will charm you completely! We’ve picked our ten favorite – which one you would put on your bucket list?
1. Val di Mello
Val di Mello is the largest natural reserve located in Northern Italy’s region of Lombardy, near the border with Switzerland. The whole place is consisting of three groups of valleys – Val di Mello, Val Masino and Valle dei Bagni. The whole place is known for its amazing mountain sports conditions, especially climbing and hiking. Val di Mello got really famous within the past decade, when the Melloblocco bouldering festival started to take place here every May.

2. Val d’Orcia
Val d’Orcia, or also known as Valdorcia, is a place in the well – known Italian region of Tuscany. Green hills surround the picturesque towns and villages in the region, which is known for the high – quality wine production. From 2004, Val d’Orcia is considered a UNESCO World Heritage Site thanks to its breathtaking agricultural landscape and place in Italian’s art history.

3. Marmore Falls
The Marmore’s falls, or as they’re called Cascata delle Marmore in Italian, are a man – made waterfalls near Terni, the capital of the region of Umbria. The waterfalls are created 2.000 years ago by the ancient Romans and their source is the river Velino. Besides enjoying the view of the Marmore waterfalls, you can explore the area and enjoy the gorgeous nature surrounding you!

4. Monti Sibillini
Monti Sibillini is a national park located in the regions of Umbria and Marche. It was established in 1993 and ever since it represents one of the most beautiful parks in whole Italy. Monti Sibillini represent a mountain chain with wonderful green valleys and plenty of flowers during spring and summer.

5. Lago di Scanno

Lago di Scanno, or lake Scanno in English, is a wonderful lake located in the province of L’Aquila in the region of Abruzzo, Southern Italy. It is also the largest lake in the region with amazing emerald – colored crystal water. Right above the lake is the small town of Scanno, which is a charming place with cobble streets and medieval architecture.

6. Gran Paradiso National Park
This national park got its name after the same called mountain – Gran Paradiso, located in the Graian Alps, between the regions of Piedmont and Aosta Valley. It is also the oldest national park in Italy and it used to be a hunting ground for the King Vittorio Emmanuel II. There are mesmerizing woodlands and alpine grassland that will take your breath away, so make sure to include the Gran Paradiso national park on your bucket list.

7. Lake Maggiore

Here’s another lake on the list and this time it is one of the three big prealpine lakes – Lago di Maggiore. It is the second biggest Italian lake and it is located between the regions of Lombardy and Piedmont, as well the Swiss canton of Ticino. The lake, as well as the towns along its coastline are known for their flower gardens, where you can find rare and exotic plants. The climate is mild all year round, which makes this place so dreamy.

8. Val di Funes
The Dolomites are a complete must visit for every tourist, no matter what! We’re talking about a mountain range located in northeastern Italy that since 2009 it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You can find small towns and villages in the mountains that will charm you absolutely with their alpine grasslands all around and the tall Dolomites in the background.

9. Giardini di Ninfa
Giardini di Ninfa or Gardens of Ninfa in English, are a lanscape garden in central Italy that will make you feel as if you stepped into a fairy tale – you will know right away why the New York Times declared these gardens as one of the most romantic in the world. They are built on the ruins of the medieval town of Ninfa and are declared as natural monument by the region of Lazio.

10. Costa degli Dei
The southern Tyrrhenian coast has the name Costa degli Dei or Coast of the Gods. The reason why this coastline has such name is simple – there are bays, capes, white sand beaches and crystal clear blue water of the Tyrrhenian Sea. It is really impressive, just take a look at the sunset! The Coast of the Gods is located in the province of Calabria in Southwestern Italy.

Our visit Florence travel guide covers some of the top attractions including a food guide to local Italian food, top sightseeing tourist attractions and the city by day and by night including visiting cathedrals, pizzerias, ruins, parks, the coliseum and the Vatican City. We cover activities you won't find in a typical Florence tourism brochure, Florence itinerary or Florence, Italy city tour also known as Firenze Italia.

20 Things to do in Florence, Italy Travel Guide Video Transcript: (FIRENZE)

Florence: when it comes to Renaissance art, there’s probably no better city in the world to soak it all in!

Our time here was spent viewing works by Italian masters both in museums and public spaces, marvelling at the architecture - in particular Florence Cathedral and its massive dome, going in search of the best lookout points, and eating plenty of pizza & gelato sharing the best things to do in Florence on your visit.

We paid 15 Euros for a ticket that gave us access to 5 attractions associated with Florence Cathedral. Giotto’s Campanile, the bell tower stands 84.7 metres with 414 steps.

We made our way over to our next attraction: the Baptistry. Known as both the Florence Baptistry and the Baptistry of Saint John.

We continued to Museo dell’Opera del Duomo, which is a museum dedicated to conserving artworks relating to Florence Cathedral.

It was time to climb the dome of Florence Cathedral. We ate our gelato at Grom and it was delicious.

The Uffizi Gallery is considered one of the best museums in the world focusing on the Italian Renaissance. Most of the art collection you see today was gifted to the city of Florence by Anna Maria Luisa, the last Medici heiress.

From Uffizi Gallery you get some pretty cool views of Ponte Vecchio and the Arno River from a higher vantage point.

We visited in Florence was Piazza della Signoria, an L-shaped square right in the heart of the city. A landmark in this square is Palazzo Vecchio or the Town Hall. And to the right of this building, you have the Loggia dei Lanzi.

Speaking of David, we did find him, over at Galleria dell’Accademia. Michelangelo’s David depicts the Biblical David carved out of a single block of marble.

Ponte Vecchia during the 16th century that one of the Medici ordered for the butcher shops to be replaced with jewellers.

When it comes to sunset in Florence, there are no better views than from Piazzale Michelangelo overlooking the historic center on the other side of the Arno River.

This indoor market is foodie central with the second floor of the market is filled with eateries. Central Market is a great place to pick up ingredients to bring back to your kitchen.

We hope you enjoyed this Florence travel guide and that it gave you ideas of things to do.

This is part of our Travel in Italy video series showcasing Italian food, Italian culture and Italian cuisine.
